An off the cuff on the bike review of my 2018 KTM 500 EXC-F. The bike is awesome, what else can I say. If you want a short range dual sport that rides like a dirt bike and can pony up a little cash, then this is the bike for you!

Great review on the 500. These modern FI plated thumpers are amazing! Got the Beta 390 and unbelievable bike. Rode up there Friday. Can't believe how dusty and loose it is for this time of year! Last year at this time, I was riding up there in snow! Crazy weather.

A Torque Beast! Engine sounds so good. Good to see you on the Tubes! I am taking a serious look at the CRF450l. The new 500 will give you many hours of pleasure!

Some stuff coming out of ktmhusky makes sense, some is pretty questionable. You want the bike to run even better, just rip the screen off the end cap on the muffler and add a bit of voltage to the TPS. Closing in on 17,000 km on mine, love it.

CdnX690 I did the screen... but I ordered the piggyback tuner for it from ktm and husky.... ohhh also ...blocked off that emissions crap with a ball bearing I had laying around loll

The 500exc is the ultimate bike! After building a Rally 690 and riding it through Africa, Europe and North America putting on 12,000 miles, I knew I had to get a lighter bike. My 500 so fits that bill! I now have almost 9,000 miles on it without any mechanical problems! My last trip was a tad over 2100 miles with 50% of that off road. I didn’t change the oil until I returned home. Zero oil consumption! These miles include Motocross, Hare Scrambles, mountain tracks and roads.

It's the perfect bike for me, that I am sure! Very cool! I have done some racing with mine as well. I do feel like there was some oil consumption though not much, but some.

NessedUpProductions I haven’t had much oil loss to speak of. I change oil every 2000 miles and don’t have to add any during that period. I swap out my primary sprocket to a 16 for on road and a 14 for off road. Takes about 10 minutes to swap.

Trying to decide between this and the 450L, with the maintenance intervals on the 450L and only 1k price difference I may as well get this bike right?

Any regrets on the 500? Do you think the 350 would be cool too?

No regrets. I don't see much point in the 350 unless you weigh like under 180 lbs. The 500 and 350 virtually weigh the same and the power of the 500 is very manageable. Just be ready to spend around $3000 more after you get it in suspension and power mods. The front forks are way too soft and the throttle response is sluggish stock.

What brand and model # tires did you replace the OEM tires with?

Goldentyre. Can't remember the exact model, but they have been working well.

I love my 2018 500 but personally I feel the suspension sucks. It is not balanced at all, the forks are way softer than the shock which causes crazy nose dive. It's ok for putting around like you were doing in this video but speed it up a bit and the cornering sucks.

Yeah, the forks sucks. I just sent my suspension off to Kreft moto a couple months ago and it's a world of difference.

Ended up with 14/50, but not super happy with it. Gonna try 14/48 next or just get a Rekluse, haha

I love my 350 exc-f. Being a relatively new rider it is so easy to ride but has more capability than I will ever need. If you ever want more performance out of the engine take a look at KTMandHusky.com. He have some interesting products, some that I have bought, and you can check out his videos (fyi, I have no affiliation with his company).

I never had a 530. Sold my 525 a couple years back and looking to get back in the saddle with a 500. A few left over 2018's still around for some good savings as you note...and better looking IMHO vs the orange excess of the 2019! A couple minor suspension and EFI upgrades but essentially unchanged.

Yep, they look good and will look better with age than their orange frame counterparts. The Xplor 48 front forks suck, way too soft, and very little response. I had Kreft Moto just do my suspension, handles very well now. Tuner and exhaust are on the list for sure.

I’m a new rider who started on a 110l pitbike (which was stolen). I’m able to get a a new 2018 for 8500 out the door with the 2019s out. I’m 35 years old (5’8 170lbs) so I don’t need to worry about impressing anyone.... with that said, you think it’s too much bike for me? Hell of a deal right?

The 500 is a power house, but it's usable and manageable power. Plus you can tune it and map it to perform however you like.
