As a new owner of a 2018 Lincoln Navigator with this entertainment system, I am convinced that Voxx and/or Lincoln specialists who developed this system did not think of everything and likely do not have kids of their own. With all do respect to men and fathers, there could not have been a mother in the room “creating” this system. Not having the ability to control the screens from up front blows my mind. Most vehicles with tvs are there for kids who are 5 and under that are unable to use a remote. I’m sure it’s wonderful for the kids and teens that can control it, but by that age, those kids probably have an iPhone in their hand. Also, our second “mirrored” screen comes on 1 out of every 15 times we try it. Love the vehicle and it’s luxury options otherwise, but very frustrating.

Ash, Thanks immensely for this detailed review. I had been looking for this information and just couldn't find much out there. I just ordered one with the rear seat entertainment, and this was really helpful. I do think it's pretty lame a DVD player is not included and this will be a bit of a nuisance. I'll probably put a portable DVD player in the console and use the 110 outlet/HDMI input - which seems a bit silly. (Especially since the new 2018 Ford Expedition, on which this is based, has the DVD player) I have a degree in computer science with many years of software development, and even I don't want to be bothered trying to download content, especially dealing with DRM content, to USB. I know how to get around that, but I'm having a hard time imagining how the average consumer will do this. In my current family hauler (Yukon XL Denali w/entertainment) I can just stop at redbox during a family trip and pop in a dvd. This will require more planning. I am interested in checking out the streaming capabilities however, maybe that will compensate for the lack of DVD? Have you had a positive experience streaming content to the system from the built in hotspot/app? Again though - really appreciate you putting this out there.

There are ways to get the movies to an SD card or USB for the tech savvy person. I did it on an SD card. That part is pretty cool being able to have a giant library in the system. The main issue with this system is there is no way to control it from the front seat for parents with younger children. The app just mimics the remote controller so you still cannot see it to pick a movie for the kids in the back seat or control it. It really should also be hard wired in to the main system for audio also. Having to connect one part of the car to another part of the car with bluetooth is an idiotic mistake. Then using the audio over bluetooth there is a delay. This can be fixed by adjusting the lipsync on the blutooth settings in the screen however it needs to be done for each source every time. The settings dont save so the audio delay has to be adjusted each time you want to watch a movie or turn the car off while getting gas on a road trip. So you have to turn the car on, then get in the back seat, set up the movie and fix the audio lag every time. Its a real tragedy the way they dropped the ball on this system. I feel for the non tech savvy parents out there because the system is completely unusable for some folks. The work around for the audio lag is to use an FM transmitter but come on really!!!!!!

Ash, I'm glad you addressed that ridiculous comment that was repeated by DeMuro. I addressed this along with other points that you as an owner and other current/potential owners may not know about. Review from his site below. ------- This is hands down the best Luxury SUV on the market and the most luxurious and comfortable SUV I have ever been in. It's incredible actually. Let me set the record straight on a few points since you (DeMuro) really didn't spend much intimate time with her. After months of research into available options, I chose the Nav over the Range and Escalade, not just for these reasons, but also because Lincoln has went back to its roots as an original American Luxury Legend and is now once again striving for perfection and opulence, rivaling their domestic and import counterparts. Lincoln is obviously on a mission. All of their vehicles are looking and performing better with better warranties and their Black Label program is excellent. I leased a standard wheelbase, fully loaded, Black Label with White Platinum exterior, Yacht Club interior and upgraded 22" six-spoked rims. This vehicle is insane and has people rubber-necking everywhere I go. It demands respect and makes a bold powerful statement when seen. It's worth every penny. Oh and I disagree about the rear seat displays. The owner should take the time and read the manual. They are extremely easy to turn on and use on the screen and with the remote controls (included). You can even stream music and video to them from your phone, hook Nuclius Ursa Live TV devices (coming soon) and game consoles up via HDMI, use USB and SD card devices. The wireless headphones (included) work well and sound really good also. But the headphones are no match for the 20 speaker Revel Ultima audio system. Absolutely spectacular sound. And my Nav has incredible power, acceleration, and a robust engine sound with an incredibly silky smooth and quiet ride. You feel like you're gliding around. But I read manuals. As recommended by Lincoln in the manual, for best acceleration and power, Premium fuel is recommended over regular. That owner is most likely using regular and that's what mine came with. There is a definite difference in performance between regular and Premium fuel. I have much respect for Lincoln as a company lately. More and more people are taking notice and soon they will be back on top. And now my wife (a Mercedes/BMW/Range fan like myself) is sold after seeing and riding in this Nav. Now she wants a Black Label Nautilus when it comes out this summer. If it's anything like the Nav, it will be a bonafide hit.

Great video. Question, the screens don't look adjustable, and if I'm not mistaken, the middle seats don't fold down, only slide forward. So how is the viewing of the monitors from the third row? I have 4 kids. The 2 younger ones would sit in the 3rd row and seems like they won't get a view.. let me know. Thanks

The 2020 model year comes with a roku stick and adapter that plugs into the USB and HDMI simultaneously. The adapter fits my amazon fire stick as well and I am able to stream everything from my firestick including using my ATT TV app which uses a lot of data.

We are strongly considering getting one of these. We went from a Yukon Denali to a LX 570 about a year ago and aren't very happy. It's just too small for us. I also saw the Demuro review where he relayed the info about the owner being unhappy with the rear entertainment system. I was shocked he said that. Happy to hear and see that it is, in fact, easy to use, but I am a bit disappointed that it doesn't have a DVD option. All of our movies are DVD. We've never downloaded movies onto a USB before. I assume it's fairly easy, but we only have laptops without CD/DVD players so how would we get our movie collection onto a USB stick? Anyway, thanks for the review.

Hi ash thanks for your review. But in a world that relies on streaming not sure how adding movies to a sd card or thumb stick is a good option. This system needed built in streaming options. Why not have netflix, etc apps right on the screen?

We have been very disappointed with the entertainment system. We were shocked no blue ray or dvd equipped with package. We didn’t want aftermarket because we wanted it integrated and also wanted it to play thru surround sound. We don’t like our kids using headphones because they are hard to monitor to keep volume from damaging ears and exhausting to wear on long car trips. So far I have not found a way to have it play thru the sound system. I also have not been able to simply cast to system from my phone. I can download movies from Amazon to my iPhone but I have not found a simple solution for getting them to a USB. This whole thing is very frustrating.

If you're playing movies through a USB stick plugged into the monitors, or via a Firestick , how do you get the audio to play over the truck's stereo system? I have young kids so the headphones don't work for me. With the firestick I get the video on the monitor, just no audio. Similarly, I have downloaded movies and tv shows on my iphone, I can hear the audio on the trucks stereo, but I cant connect the video to the rear monitors. Any suggestions?

Would you mind checking out the Lincoln FES (family entertainment system) app; specifically the mirrorcast and smartstream capabilities referenced in the FES manual. I understand this app may be device specific in its capabilities but I'm very interested in those two. Completely unrelated but if you have an iPhone, does the vehicle have the Waze integration app?

So, how do you get the audio to play through the hdmi to phone? The only way I can figure it out is with Bluetooth, but the audio lag is so bad. Any tips?

Slingplayer.... Very interesting ... I've had a slingbox for over 10 years now and they are fantastic. Question though.... Accessing a slingplayer requires internet, so how do those screens get internet access? Obviously you could use your phone as a mobile hotspot but just curious how they expect the screens to get internet access?

I thank you very much for making this video. I just watched Doug video this morning where he made that statement about it being extremely difficult to use and I found that surprising. I'm pretty techno savvy so I suspect it's not going to be a problem when I get mine. But I wanted to ask you about the durability of the screen surfaces themselves? Do you think screen protectors would be a good idea if you're going to have kids crawling in and out potentially scraping something across it and scratching the surface? Do they indicate that they are well protected and that this wouldn't be a concern? Also isn't there a way to play Netflix through their? Obviously it requires a Wi-Fi network in the vehicle but if you have that capability then isn't there a way to also stream videos through Netflix? My last question is if you added one or two more headphones, are they able to connect either screen A or B also? Hello, looking for help, I have tried many differnet ways to get my video / media files to play, they are MP4 and mostly MKV I have converted to smaller size so to get more on a stick, tried USB hard drive, USB memory stick and SD card, it reads the old files missing and does not read the entire file sturcture, tried in individual folders and all on root level no folders, still refused to see all the files, what am I doing wrong, very frustrating?!?

Love the video but my problem is I have a hard time of the process of getting DVDs onto the SD card or USB stick. Is there any step by step instructions that would help a technology challenged person like me?

Question for the community: How can one watch movies from DVD or Bluray? Or Netflix? We rent all manner of movies from our public library on DVD and in the past played them on our Infiniti QX. Here is an update: The Navigator his a lot of issues including a new transmission at 10k miles. Mirrors clicking, rattling noises, nav issues etc. As far as the RES goes, my kids (7-11) exclusively use an amazon fire stick to watch netflix/youtube. They stream internet from my phone but could also use the cars wifi if you subscribe to the service.

Looks like if b monitor is slave to a and a has a HDMI input, you can mirror your iPhone or Android to both screens. Which of course you would need an usb c to HDMI adapter. I do this all the time with my old iPhone 7 plus and now Samsung note 9. Which is excellent for parents who want to control media from the front driver seat where your phone is located. Very ideal for parents. Great job with the media Lincoln! On top of that Lincoln didn't go with the old DVD player. If your with the times DVD is no longer needed. Netflix , play movies , iTunes all allow to download movies to your smartphones and tablet's for offline viewing.

You can't even view navigation or vehicle stats on that screen which makes it less useful. BMW 7 series has the best. Full navigation and media controls on the back seat screens as you would on main system in the front

I just got my 2018 Navigator. I special ordered mine and paid $92,000. I had no idea you couldn’t play a physical dvd and I HATE it. How are you supposed to put Disney dvds onto a USB legally?! Help please! Hands down I would not have bought it had I known the $2000 rear entertainment couldn’t play dvds. I am so bummed.

The issue I have with it is that we don't have physical DVDs to rip our content to USB stick or SD Card. I did a Roku stick but both kids have to watch the same thing if they want to do Netflix from the Roku. The system would be great if they would have added the inputs to each screen.

I'm an owner of a 2018 Lincoln Navigator and I have to completely disagree with your review. 1. If you load a file that has any special characters in the title, it will crash the system. 2. Sling box still makes the box and I own 6 sling boxes, but the application will only stream content that is being streamed from the M2 model or the Sling 500 model. It will not receive the stream from the Sling box Pro model. 3. There is no way to control the content being played on the rear units from the front seat display or by the Lincoln play app, as advertised. So, if you have a toddler in the back seat and the video ends, you would need to stop the car to load up the next video. (I had an Escalade before this car, and I could totally control all the functions on the front screen for the rear entertainment system). 4. You have to first start the car before you strap in your kid in, or when you start the car the entire systems reboot and it doesn't pick up where it left off. 5. They advertise that you can stream content from your smart devices and route it to any screen, however, the reality is that when it works you can only stream content that is on your phone. You can't stream any pay per view content to the screens such as Netflix, Amazon Video, Hulu or KZfaq. I can keep going, but my advice to a Lincoln Navigator buyer is that THE CAR IS GREAT and the best Navigator they've ever made, BUT the entertainment systems doesn't live up to Lincoln Standards or to what they have advertised it to be. You will be better served by purchasing 2 tablets and mounting them on the back seat.

I think its problematic. Lincoln should do video with a step by step process. Ive had my Navigator for almost a year and I've never figured out how to use it. Which led me here.

Dude I just paid 98k for this loaded Reserve Navigator. I wanted it for family summer road trip. No one randomly has a USB with movies on it. It's illegal to do it in first place and most customers don't know how. Wife and I have spent 10 days on it and still can't figure it out. Unreal. Best buy plugged in several DVD players via hdmi and they don't work. Only option is a stick but u have to pay for wifi. Stupid. Wish I could return the car. Now have to buy 2 fire sticks for each tv? Lol so dumb.

This video is very miss leading. The car does not come with the videos and songs mention. You have to have these videos and music saved to a memory SD card or USB thumb drive..

I own this vehicle. This entertainment system blows. Did they think of everything? No. They tried but instead made it confusing. I would prefer the old school DVD in console method. Who has thumb drives or SD cards full of movies? I don't know many if any. But I do have hundreds of DVDs.

No DVD or blu-ray on a $90K suv? WTF Lincoln/Ford. That has legitimately ruined the new navigator and expedition for me, as I have tons of optical media and I will always use that over shitty streaming services and having to pay for some sort of unlimited data plan or taking the time to rip all of it to digital files

I personally do not like anything about the system. I dont like how the monitors are mounted. If they were in the headrest would be better and save space. The usb ports and hdmi port are in silly locations, easily get broken if you bump into the stick or cords. I purchased 90 degree cords to hide the usb stick behind the monitor. Why cant the screens be touch screen? The menu are confusing. Why no audio input to the radio? Firestick can only be heard thru the headphones. There is bluetooth sound to the radio. But if your watching a movie the audio is way off coming thru the speakers. I HATE THE SYSTEM! My Rosen is way better.

I’m still furious over this stupid entertainment system that I STILL cannot easily use. If you have older kids, great. If not, you will need to purchase a portable DVD player to attach over the top of these useless screens that cannot be removed. Yes, you can use a fire stick or whatever but it takes 900 steps to get those started before you can actually leave the house. Also, you have to have a cord running down to the console to plug in the fire stick. It is ugly. It is difficult with kids climbing in and out. And guess what? Our HDMI port got bent when someone stepped on the cord. The replacement option that I was given was an entirely new seat. The. Entire. Seat. I complained and was very vocal. They finally did just replace the port somehow. But the system is still very unreliable. Half the time screen B won’t work. And I CANNOT get movies to play from a USB. I BEG of you, if you have info on this, please share!!!!

This is the worst system ever, Junk not worth 2k Slingbox is not even made anymore. You have to buy a used one off ebay. When using sling box It lags terribly. Just useless. If you connect the monitor to the radio in the car via Bluetooth, the audio of the person voice has a 2 second delay. It is not touch screen. Its just junk

Total garbage, I would not give you $60.00 bucks for both monitors. Runing android android 5.0.1 that ancient. The sling box option works, but you have to buy a used slingbox. Wow how slow and picture is shit. Lincoln did a horrible job.
