Something that isn't typically appreciated is that the old models were harder to produce from a design standpoint in terms of metal working. Aluminum is only able to hit the curves and stuff apple does because they own the entire process.

My daily driver is a 16” M1 Max MBP, which I use for work. However, it’s a bit of a beast and total overkill for most of my personal needs. I’ve just ordered one of these because I want a smaller machine that is good for browsing and basic tasks, and that I can sling into a backpack or carry around. Plus a retina screen, which is never a bad idea! I have an early 2015 13” Air but that was a fixer-upper and a bit of a DIY project. I don’t think I’ll regret the purchase - fingers crossed!

I watch a couple of these videos I like looking at the old MacBooks to use for my family not specifically for me. Something cheap that they can enjoy. I’m the only one that does video editing and needs the newest but everytime I watch one of these videos to see if the computer will still be good to use. You always recommend something crazy more expensive people look at these older MacBooks to save money not to spend more money if you’re going to suggest another version, be a year above not a couple more years above near the newest model. I’m not spending that kind of money just for someone who just gonna look at Facebook lol

Please don't buy this MacBook. I had this for years and it really slowed down after Ventura and got even slower with Sonoma, ditched the MacBook and got a ChromeBook that doesn't overheat on google chrome.

It's true that MacBook often becomes slow after updates. I was thinking to buy an older MacBook with longer software support.

@@theartisticsoul7334 Well thats the pro so it’s supposed to be better, my air is pretty fast if I have very few tabs open but more than 2 tabs will make it slow or lag, can’t forget the fans blasting loud. I think I should save and invest in a M chip model or a iPad.

I actually just bought one in mint condition for just over $300, but I was never planning on keeping Mac OS. I can’t buy an M1 since those chips are not fully supported by Linux distros, which is what I used. The keyboard is the only thing that has me a bit worried about, but hoping it won’t fail on me right away.

just got this MacBook for my birthday and it runs Roblox well and it does get a bit warm when gaming but that's cause its an old machine and MacBooks arentmade for gaming. overall great MacBook!!

Download windows on it 😭 I know were apple fanboys but I have windows 10 on mine and it runs flawlessly and fast

@@DrTrippp I ended up spending 2.5K on the Mac book pro m3 pro. Ngl, it's very good, but for sure windows would offer that for so much cheaper lol. Considering to download windows on it and test its performance on some games tho. How'd you install it ?

I am typing on a 2018 macbook air that I own for years now. I have no issues, but I would not recommend anyone to purchase one this old. My coworker, wanted a mac so bad (she knows nothing about Macs but always watching everything I have), so she bought a very old macbook air 2017 for $550 (the old silver ones with the broad bezels). Then came to show off her clueless purchase. When I told her she got ripped off, she was annoyed with me.

I have only one complain to this video : your analysis of the MacBook is good however, when people (including myself) look for videos like these (is the [older] MacBook a good thing today) it is because we don't have the money to buy the newest or newer MacBooks. And that's what I wanted to say, you are exposing the flaws of the 2018 MacBook Air and telling right away that the 2020 MacBook Air M1 is better. Of course it's better ! It's newer, more powerful and most importantly, WAAYY more expensive ! I did not learn what were the good equivalents to the 2018 MacBook Air since you were focusing on the newer, more expensive models... You did not take in account the budget in your analysis and that's what made it lose its value. If budget isn't a problem we won't be looking for the 2018 MacBook. "If budget isn't a thing, don't buy a Peugeot, a Ford or a Toyota and go straight to a Bugatti" : that's how the video felt personally. Here, I hope this will help you in your future videos. Otherwise, keep up the good work, this video was still good.
