On a recent trip to California I hired the latest, fifth generation, Mercedes E ''W213' saloon. The E Class has been on sale since 1993, and is positioned in the market to take away potential customers from the likes of the BMW 5 Series and Audi A6.
This was my first time behind the wheel of an E Class and overall after I had returned the keys I left feeling impressed with the prestige German barge. It performed as I had expected - a thoroughly comfortable, well equipped, refined long distance cruiser, perfect for eating up hundreds of American highway miles.
In this video I try to explore all things relevant to Mercedes E Class ownership, commenting on the engines available to customers in the UK and discussing what new equipment is now found on the car.
People with the need for a diesel have the option of the E200D, E220D and E350D. Whilst punters who have a preference for petrol are able to choose from Mercedes new baby AMG line referred to as the '43' range.
The E43 has Mercedes new twin turbo, 3 litre v6 engine producing 400bhp so it certainly shouldn't be regarded as compromised AMG ownership. The range topping petrol engines are powered by V8's, which are found in the E63 and flagship E63s.
Please note:
This video was filmed by myself whilst on holiday, so it is missing some of the usual cinematic camera shots captured by my cameraman Jordan Robinson. However, my next upload will return to the usual format.
