We took two horsepower monsters and shot them out head to head to see which one could be crowned king. Both machines have their pluses and minues but it is about finding out which of the two can handle high speed, rocks, crawling, whoops and more. To see the full test check out the January issue of Dirt Wheels Magazine

Main thing to note between these 2 are the body style set ups. X3 is a dune buggy 4x4. The rzr is a trail machine. Kind of comparing a jeep to a buggy. X3 is best suited in sand dunes,open areas, wide turn trails. The rzr would be suited to sharp trails,gravel roads,and wet and dry trails
@sendittv3274
@sendittv3274 5 жыл бұрын
Canadian Custom ATV you are so very wrong about both, the x3 isn’t a dune buggy it’s meant for anything I put in its way it can trail ride, rock climb, and even in the sand dunes make sure u at least try them out before talking about them
@sxscustom

@@sendittv3274 owning and riding both, I prefer the Polaris. I am not wrong my friend. If you trail ride you will appreciate the rzr alot more. No blind spots and the engine noise and drive terain noise is obnoxious in the x3. While the rzr is alot quieter. These are all facts.

I have to agree with you with the can am being more of a buggy. The rzr to me is the all time king and is quit a bit better on the trail.

They both make great machines and I currently own a CanAm, but the wide stance of the Mav Drs and our narrow trails in the Rocky mountains where I live means "fail" unless you go to the narrower Mav sport version.

After driving both on wooded trails there is no comparison. The RZR sits upright where you can view what's over the next hill. The Can Am feels like the bat mobile, which looks cool, but you can't see anything when navigating trails. The hill climbing is hands down for the RZR. I will give it to Can Am on the open (flat) trails. It handles nicely. If I lived out west I would really consider the X3. Living in the Mid-West I choose the RZR without a question.
@BigSam63

Good comparison. If you're going to be in the mountains/hills/forests go with the RZR, if you're spending most of your time in the desert or wide open plains, go with the Maverick.

I looked at the mavericks and the RZRs last year, I really liked them both, I went with the maverick due to the 8" of extra width. I ride with my brother in law or my nephews most of the time, we are big guys and we dont rub shoulders near as bad in the maverick as we would in the RZR.

Can am Macerick X3 IS AND ONLY IS A SAND DUNE MACHINE, lower cage longer and wider base is designed for better cornering at high speeds. But it cant race in the trails!! RZR can ROCK CLIMB, TRAIL, DUNE AND MUD. Here in Texas we trail and mud. All those stories you hear about RZR breaking down is because they paid less for their machine and actually beat on it.

MuddersGoneWild thank you ! Everyone is out there dry humping the Can Am. We have a 2017 XP4 Turbo, and we trail ride exclusively . The cAn am is very nice looking , but the two we ride with have been in the shop more than on the trails. We honestly beat the snot out of the Rzr, and it’s trucking along . I’m perfectly happy with the RZR platform . The Can Am is more for sand dunes, and we just don’t have those in Kentucky . Everything new that comes out is “ the best”. But with this, it’s just Ford vs Chevy, Apple vs Android, etc etc. There is people loyal to their camps and that’s how it’s gonna be.

Hi guys, been a fan of dirtwheels for 30+ years now! Just want to clarify something about ground clearance and travel. With the long travel of the UTV's you have to consider the "droop". Even if the ground clearance number is smaller than the complete suspension travel it doesnt mean that you're gonna bottom out by the skidplate! It's only mean that you're "droop" is alot more than what you find on a atv or motocross. Trophy truck are all like that. Right?

Both are fantastic machines but Can am has always felt more premium and this really carries into the x3 especially at the high price tag these vehicles carry. I have always favored the RZR viability especially over the x3 as well as Polaris 4wd. I am not a fan of anything but a locked front diff for a pure off-road machine. Polaris is going to need a new Chassis for pure sport though the Can am x3 is a huge win. It looks and feels premium everywhere. The Polaris on the other hand doesn't seem like enough at 26k.

Been buying Polaris products since 1987... the CVT's are bulletproof. The transmission is basic and performs as needed. The front diff is simple and reliable for 4 wheel assist. You beat any machine beyond what its design for parts are going to break. Drive through water over the driveline and electrical and mechanical problems are going to develop. Polaris are basically simple to work on. I wished Polaris would make their "hood and fenders" in one piece with pull pins and latches to undo it as one assembly. Also with the 'rear fenders and rear body". Pull the pins and undo the latches and the complete front and rear frames become naked like a race car front end!

For $27k I think I’d buy a nice used Jeep or 4Runner, trick it out for off-road have heat, a/c, a vehicle that can drive 100’s of thousands of miles, and don’t have to trailer it Home. The only way I would buy one of these things is if I was pretty well off. Don’t get me wrong I think they’re pretty cool but for the money it’s just too much for a toy that is gonna be outdated and might not last 5 Years.

You can't drive a 72 inch wide machine on trails in Minnesota so I would like to see how it compares to a 64 inch wide can am. Of course if you have that much more width it should corner better lol also, I watched a ton of can am guys over New Years in Glamis spend about 2 hours changing belts out in the dunes, and I saw a lot changing belts. I had to give an artic cat guy a ride back because he couldn't change his belt in the dunes either. They sure do look sick and are have lots of leg room. I also watched a 4 seater RZR burn to the ground. I just upgraded from a Rzr 900 trail to a turbo dynamix and so far I love it. I sure did think about buying the can am tho, maybe next year.

For me I will stick with my polaris 1000 I don't need a almost 30 thousand dollar sxs. I also ride fairly slow so the can am is probably insane from high speed runs and it also looks really mean. Keep in mined I just pick which ever sxs is better each year

Polaris really needs to step their game up, I bough my RZR 1k new in 2015 and have been pretty happy with it. However, if I was going to buy a new one again it would be the X3 all day without a second thought. Instead they seem to now be focused on a single seater race(ish) UTV which is just meh.

all depends on where you live and the type of terrain. id prefer the can am but i think the polaris would suit where i live better.

Now that canam is selling them with a locker I don’t see any advantage to the rzr other than parts availability.

dr187mx ya, I don’t know how they didn’t compare it against the X-RC he even said the most expensive of each brand that’s wrong cause it’s the X3 XRC but’s still overall good review

NOT a locker, it is the same silly setup as before with an electronic assit to lock at a lower speed.

Mike Panocatapolis From what Ive heard from a friend with the x3 xmr, he likes it and it works as it should. If it didn’t he could buy a halo locker or something similar.

DR197mx, basically, the halo is better, but only in a sense you know it is locked, this system is electronic meaning it can fail, where halo wont.

The price of these machines has just gotten flat out ridiculous! Sadly, it seems that trail riding is becoming a rich mans game. Which to buy? Easy - buy the Polaris and sit around the house wishing you could go riding while it sits in the shop waiting for repairs due to manufacturing defects, all the time calling the dealer to argue about warranty coverage, OR.......buy the CanAm and go have fun!

this is such a short sighted comment. You can trail ride in the non turbo cheaper versions just like you ALWAYS have. There is nothing saying that you can't buy a lower model and keep having fun, unless it's your problem playing keeping up with the Jones's. Let the people that have to have the best of the best pay for the R&D that always trickles down. This is no difference from SxS's than computers, graphics cards, Cars, TV's, Phones...EVERY industry. What your saying is that Ferrari and Lamborghini has ruined how much fun you can have in a Mustang or Camaro...it's absurd.

Still cheaper than shelling out 50k for a prerunner. At least these are easy to finance . Polaris knew what they were doing. Give more people the ability to buy an awesome desert toy. Cam am and Yamaha seen what they were missing out on and jumped into the market.

Fancy schmancy electronic suspension and you'll still have to go with aftermarket dual rate springs to get the ride quality that the Polaris should come with from the factory 👎
