The 2018 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel is an amazing and capable vehicle. Coming from a long line of Cummins based trucks I was initially hesitant in taking the Cummins vs EcoDiesel plunge. But I did and I don't regret a second of it. Thanks for watching my Ram 1500 EcoDiesel review on my new Ram 1500 Laramie

I leased a 2016 and absolutely loved it just gave the back and can't wait to get the 2019 with diesel. You should have nothing but great success with truck. I average mixed 23.5 miles to the gallon with the 4x4. Great review

Just hit 1k miles on mine. Love it so far. Did find chipped paint with a little rust. Have to go take care of that. One thing I wish it did have was a left foot rest on the floorboard like other trucks I've had.

Had one for 50,000 miles. Overall I really liked the truck. Had a diesel particulate filter sensor go bad. Fixed under warranty. Back up camera went after warranty expired. It would work first thing on cold days and not after that. I sold it because I was afraid of all the EPA-mandated crap would start going bad, costing me money. It would be a great truck if it weren't for the EPA.

Just bought one yesterday in Phoenix AZ with 20 miles on it and drove it to Tucson. This morning with 150 miles on it, I turned it on and removed the oil fill cap -to my amazement it has an extreme amount of blow-by! I have had all gens of ram Cummins and none of them ever had this problem even with hundreds of thousands of miles on them. Does your engine have blow-by? Will the mods you’re thinking of doing void your warranty? I’ll try to post a video of mine later.

I guess the big positives are the big improvements in acceleration and he says the fuel mileage keeps getting better with every tank of fuel. I assume with the GDE flash with the improved air/fuel tuning and the 3:92 rear end gears should improve the performance considerably. I think it will be a big improvement over the stock ecu tune from the factory.

Hey there. Thanks for posting this. It has been very helpful. I have an opportunity to buy a 2018 ram 1500 Limited eco-diesel. I live in Canada so the trim levels are a little different. Not too much. In 2018 the limited was the top and ram 1500. Your video has given me some great information. However I am curious being four years later I’m sure you don’t have that truck anymore but after driving it for a while what are your thoughts? Any information you can provide for me would be great. By the way the truck has 62,000 km on it.

Just traded my tundra and got a 2017 Ram with the ecodiesel. I had a few hemi’s and they are awesome. But I got such a great deal I said what the hell and bought the eco. The more I drive this truck the more I love it. Very happy with my decision. It feels like it has way more than 240hp. If you are in the market for a Ram just drive the eco and I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

Randy Rhoads absolutely. I drive 21 miles to work (4 lane) one way so I can hammer down on it, but it is fine around town too. You will get good gas mileage and you will be surprised at how much power the baby diesel’s got. Just make sure you (as my grandpa use to say) blow the soot out of it every now and then👍

Randy Rhoads it does but I’m not to familiar with it yet as mine is still new. This is my first diesel I’ve ever owned. What I mean by blowing the “soot” out of it is open it up from time to time and put the pedal to the metal.

BIG HORN MGTOW it’s all about how many miles you drive with Diesel engines temperatures will díctate the type of maintenance. If your daily drives doesn’t bring the engine temperatures up to what they are supposed to I could cause issues

I love reading how people with talk about engine temperature and not having a clue. It’s a truck I had a ford ranger with 3.2 diesel (not available in US) it had 387k KM. Sold it in 17 never did anything except for maintenance. If someone tells you about engine temp in the engine it’s smoke on water. Drive it you will be fine just please change your oil and put gas from name brand gas station.

Hello 5 years later, I just did the same thing last week. Traded my 2014 tundra for a 2019 ram 1500 crew 4x4 with the ecodiesel. I'm loving it so far. I did the practice tow with our 6500# travel trailer last weekend. Cant argue a 150 mile trip at 13.3 mpg 7 miles of that being a 5% grade. Towed it just fine. Very please. Previous owner traded it in at 99,300. Motor was replaced at that time as well. So it having 99,700 on it now I hope I get a good amount out of it with little to no issues until it's paid off!

I've always, always been a GM man but I had to clear my head and look at all options because this will be my last new pick up purchase and I want it to be versatile, dependable and long-lasting. I definitely will be watching for your next video on that 1500 ram diesel and I have subscribed 👊

Nice review! I'm going to be in the market for a new truck soon and have been looking at the Ram EcoDiesel Laramie 4x4 as an option. I currently have a 10 - 15 minute drive to work every day and travel for work maybe once a month (4 hour round trips at the most). About every other weekend I travel out of town with similar highway time as I have for work travel. Three to four months out of the year I'll be hauling a small single axle trailer, four wheeler or side by side, and hunting gear on the weekends. I wont be hauling anything heavier than that. Given all of that, do you think the EcoDiesel would be a good fit or over kill for my situation? I've read that the "re-gens" can be a little annoying when just driving around town. I've also read the maintenance costs (oil changes, etc...) can be fairly high. Do you think the savings on fuel will outweigh the maintenance costs? Thanks and great video!

mcminn86 I have a 16 Ecodiesel and have to say an oil change costs me about $70 doing it myself (11 qts Rotella T6 and filter cost via eBay 3/$24). My 15 hemi took 7 qts. About the same change frequency. I pull a 4 place snowmobile trailer and average 13-15 mpg vs 9-11 mpg with hemi. My opinion is the overall cost to own a diesel vs gas is higher but I’m expecting longer engine longevity and overall assuming I’m going to drive the wheels off this one.

Don't see a lot of differences (or improvements) here over the 2015 EcoDiesel that I own, other than being a few years newer. That's not a bad thing. The 2015 Eco is a heck of a truck. This motor needs to go into their new Gladiator - if they have any sense. Outstanding performance for a 3L V-6.

Simple since no one reply the echodiesel is a city truck driver if you don't pull or carry shit you get the mileage the towing capacity sucks don't pull well since is a 3.0 liter. The 5.7 is a truck to pull carry heavy loads but you don't get the mileage so 🤷 if you a guy who just drives around as a Daly driver is perfect period. Hope this helps

Too bad these engines are hit or miss! I owned a 2015 Outdoorsman with the Ecodiesel, Air suspension, 8.4 Uconnect, etc... The truck ride is a totally awesome, the fuel mileage is extraordinary, I really, really, really miss it. My first engine blew up at 60,099 KM, and the new engine they replaced it with catastrophically blew up after about 2,000 KM. Being stranded more than once with this truck I traded it in for a new GMC. I would definitely NOT buy another Ecodiesel again - and if you don't believe me, check it out in the forums... FCA needs to update this engine before they ever get my hard earned cash again.

Marc Henri I honestly think it that people drive these little diesels like a gasser. You're mainly gonna hear horror stories on the forums. I bought one hearing the stories but I've heard them with every truck or car I've owned. Don't abuse it and maintain them and they should be good to go. I'm getting about 7 to 8 mpg better in this truck than my old 2013 hemi.
@th3duke1

I bought mine for hunting, fishing and daily driving. There's no doubt that the mpg is better I was averaging 24 mpg with mine all day long. I did all of the scheduled maintenance at the dealer (oil changes, filters, tire rotation, etc) - unfortunately these engines are hit or miss; and apparently FCA will be replacing this engine for 2020. GL with yours, I really miss my RAM Eco-diesel, but its reliability has not yet been proven to say the least.

Owners who have the 2014-2016 Ecodiesel have experienced turbo lag a less miles per gallon now since having the EPA/ Class Action Lawsuit software update. My 2015 Big Horn Ecodiesel is at the dealer for a coolant smell. The service advisor called me to discuss what is happening. He claims that FCA does not have any parts to repair the EGR cooler and trying different avenues to get parts. Their is a current recall on all Ecodiesel for engine fires. The Ram Ecodiesel is a nice driving vehicle. It however is the most unreliable vehicle I’ve owned. Good thing I have the max care extended warranty. The new 2020 Ecodiesel is experiencing a major turbo lag. It’s probably using the same software that the EPA lawsuit caused which is causing higher operating temperatures which is causing the coolant leak which has caused engine fires. FCA has major problems now. I haven’t submitted my paperwork for the $3,075 USD class action lawsuit part. Their is another class action lawsuit that is a buyback.

Gabe no nothing yet. I was told the Ram diesel is being sold after the EPA recall fixed. But when I talked to one sales rep earlier today she was more interested I selling me the truck rather than providing useful info regarding diesel future if EPA changes its guidelines. Furthermore, I am not going to tow. I am basically looking for a truck to deal with daily driving and winter weather in the northeast. Some of friends are recommending I should look into F-150, 2.7 turbo as it fulfills my need. Diesel is good towing you need to drive thousands of miles to break even the upfront cost. Let’s see how the things develop and I will definitely update. 5.7 hemp Laramie I am looking at around $32-35k with up to 35k miles and $34-38k eco diesel.

@@bklynwam of course. It’s all about the sales with these dealership. It’s a shame they don’t hire people who actually care about the future of automobiles especially since they will be the ones selling them but it’s sales and will never change. I plan on getting towing a few things potentially everyday and father in-law is giving us his boat and camper since he’s too old to use it and I figured since I don’t have to buy that stuff anymore might as well shoot for the top trim on a truck even if it’s over kill. I’d rather have too much power than not enough. No regrets with me and if I find out more info I will come back to this discussion as well. Good luck and happy hunting my friend!

Someone should tell dodge ram they are not making the 2018 ecodiesel...they must have missed the memo...I just bought a 2018 last week...the 2019 is coming out this spring with the econoboost...it is new to the 2019...an electric motor mounted to the front of the engine that adds 95 ft pounds of torgue...well any way I guess maybe I should return it to the dealer because they are not supposed to be making them so how can they sell me one if they are not making them ....????

Think about it, the ecodiesel makes more power than an older cummins that could tow 15,000lbs

Check out this review of the GDE Hot Tune Flash by Green Diesel Engineering. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/b9eCZ5ZjnsnMc4E.html Check out this video and the others he has posted on the GDE Flash...He seems to be very impressed. He seems very pleased with the performance improvements on his Ecodiesel and apparently the flash doesn't leave it's finger prints in your ECU. I haven't checked with GDE but the flash may be a 2nd or 3rd generation of the one he has in his truck. It sounds like a great improvement to the limp factory tune on the Ecodiesel. www.greendieselengineering.com.....I think they are in Michigan. PS: Was wondering what kind of mileage you're getting with the 3:92 gear ratio

The diesel is 1500 more than the hemi. It's 4k more than the base v6 gas. If u paid 4k more than the hemi u got fucked! I love the diesel but I would never pay 4k more than the hemi. That's years worth of gas!

NEVER BUY A RAM, CHECK OUT ALL THE FAILURES ON THE 5.7 HEMI CAMSHAFT AND LIFTERS SEIZING UP. THIS ENGINE SHOULD BE RECALLED. NOT A WORD . EXPECT TO SPEND AT LEAST 5000 FOR REPAIRS IF IT EVEN MAKES PAST WARRANTY.
