lovely wee bike, but I still think the prices of mainstream 125s are far too high and prohibative for youngsters getting into bikes.

Graham Stewart don’t slate me for saying this, but for the money you can’t go wrong with some of the Chinese 125cc bikes,I got myself a Hanway scrambler for £2000,and. I am really impressed with it, and when you look at the depreciation in comparison to a 125cc that cost £4.500 I honestly think they make a lot of sense for a lot of youngsters wanting their first bikes.
@captainaverage721

@@jasonclarke7422 certainly not going to slate you, some of the Chinese bikes are absoloutely fine. Let's be honest any 125 is going to be thrashed and abused to within an inch of its life. If asked by a teenager wishing to get into bikes I'd recommend doing your CBT and getting a decent 2k Chinese bike lexmoto and sinnis are two bikes offered with a 2 yr warranty so can't be bad. Learn your trade and keep the 2 grand saved into purchasing your A2 licienced bike.

I’m with you on the fun value of a 125 TMF. I rode my son’s Honda CB125 recently and didn’t want to get off it. Full chat through every gear, throwing it through the corners and never more than 50 mph. Great fun.

As Michael Chapman says below this also took me back to the early/mid 80's. Compared to any four stroke of that era this machine is the starship Enterprise,sophisticated and light. The old RD125LC would have given it a run in performance terms i think but cost much more in teenage petrol and oil bills not to mention the occasional holed piston. How times have changed. Great review TMF,cheers.

@LasseJOugaard
@LasseJOugaard 5 жыл бұрын
I don't agree. I think keyless in genius on bikes. Just stuff the key in your inner-most and deepest pocket and away you go. KTM has a keyless fuelcap aswell. When you turn off the bike, you have 1 minute to open the cap, before it locks. The Ducatis (the newer ones atleast) can still be started if the keyless fail, using the pincode system. I wish my 950 had it :)
@8Jacob2

I always struggle with the impracticality of the medieval invention of a bloody key, so I love the idea (forgotten, hidden, left in ignition, or even worse lost)! On the other hand, I´ve heard that some banks use "jammer" for security so you need to push your precious heavy new bike far away to start it :o) Dunno if it´s true tho...

Its fine when working, battery went in the fob for me, then it wouldn't recognise the fob, then on another occasion the bike would start but the auto steering lock would not unlock....... fine if you want to ride in circles. Keep it simple and there is less to fail. Never again with Ducati I'm afraid.

I really like riding 125cc bikes, and for shortish group rides of up to 20 miles you can’t beat them for fun factor on the right roads,they always bring a big smile to my face, and they are not intimidating like larger cc bikes,I will always have one hidden away in the garage,even if it’s just to make this 40 something year old feel like a17 year old tear away again.

@@slabbyrider8665 Hi slabby my little Red RD 125 LC had a Alspeed exhaust Royston racing reeds . I think at the time for a 17 year old it went fast enough . It would do 80mph very easy & top out at 100 mph but the little 125 I never pushed it up there to often for to long . The the GSR 125 looks a super little bike for a 17 year old to start his progression to a bigger bike .

This seems a pretty cool machine! In the US, manufacturers just don't sell bikes like this. 250cc is generally the smallest displacement you'll find (there are a few exceptions from the more esoteric factories). It's a shame too, because that removes an entire tier of motorcycling, with most bikes starting at 'mid-range' pricing. Great video as usual!

Amazing little bike had the 2006 Honda Repsol 125 bang on same bike weight apart from 1bhp and Abs. So much fun left 58.000 miles on clock. King on B Roads Rounabouts traffic splitting cheap as chips frugal juice low maintenance. Just cross winds have had me blown a metre across lanes biggest downside and overtaking lorries need to plan well in advance. City is best n B roads.

Thanks TMF. What a nice little bike. I used to have a Suzuki FXR150, and this seems like a younger version of that. That digital display is fantastic, everything you need there, and all very nice and clear. And Bosch ABS and keyless ignition are really gilding the lily! (Did I mention, by that way, that I've upgraded to a 2018 BMW S1000R? Boy Oh Boy, what a machine! I love it! The quick shift assistant pro, for up and down shifts is super smooth and precise. I haven't found anything I don't like about this bike yet (hmm, maybe the lack of a factory adjustable clutch lever). Although, I'm still breaking it in, so I haven't yet gone above 9000 rpm... )

Sport bikes look amazing but the riding position just kills it for me, never found them comfortable. That said, I love these lower cc bikes. My fondest motorcycle memories involved a Yamaha DT125 Enduro on/off road bike. My RT has the keyless and the only thing I can say is that I don't have to worry about forgetting my key in the ignition and maybe that's the point? Otherwise, doesn't really do anything for me, I'd rather have a key. :-P Another fun review TMF.

Dear Flyer, Thank you very much for all your content. I am a fan of your work. Love the attention to detail. I am a proud (sort off) owner of the gsxr 125 and I got it in the fancy go faster blue version. I know you won’t be able to go into a long term review because you won’t be riding this angry hamster for long but please help new owners with the aftermarket research. It is very hard to find anything for this bike. Had it since October last year and did 5500 miles on it so far. Please advise on buying replacement parts. In particular: Break and clutch improvement. Which levers fit? Aesthetics: tail tidy, windscreen Winter is coming: heated grips Exhaust: as far as I know only two options out there and none of them road legal... Handlebars: can we get fancier non plastic plugs? Can Any improvement be made on the looks of the bars? Ride Safe, have a great not too rainy fall and winter!

It's been out for sometime, about 3 or 4 months - I bought one, but after the "honeymoon" was over, the rear suspension is just too hard on my ever declining back/hips so trading it in for a Street Scrambler.

I have the GSX-S125 (with a yoshimura exhaust and various other tweaks). One issue I've been finding is that rolling at low speeds in first or second gear with clutch in, occasionally as I'm slowly bringing on the throttle prior to engaging the clutch the engine will just cut out.
