@@AGardenShed I can't help but wonder what the quick release mounts are like for weight capacity and safety. I seems that the standard mounts have more support points, meaning better weight distribution across the frame, whereas the quick mounts have fewer points and would not be able to take quite so much weight/punishment

Very nicely done mate. I have the 1000 and pretty well the same accessories. May I suggest a pair of additional riding lights,so the the bloody car drivers can definitely see you, and to assist with any night riding. I also fitted a KAOKO throttle lock for my longer trips. Easy to install and it gives your throttle hand a rest. Once again, nice looking bike mate.

I've got a gen1 650 abs. Mine came with engine bars, spots, givi racks and panniers, Scott oiler, Oxford grips, mirror extenders. I've fitted off road pegs, folding tip gear lever, span adjustable clutch and brake levers, pipercross filter, up and back bar risers and +25mm dog bones. I've got the seat from a 1000 that has an inch more foam for the rider, its a bit more comfy and less cramped. It's a bit of a stretch but I ride trail bikes so a toe on the floor is enough for me. I plan to fit fork emulators, fork spings and maybe a lift kit possibly as well. I've got Anlas Capra X tyres coming tomorrow as I plan to do ride some easy tracks here in Wales and want to try them before a trip to the Picos Europa next year. I'm going to try a 16T front sprocket to gear it up slightly. I've got some enduro hand guards and Renthals bars to go on as well. I'd like to have the guards painted or dipped.

Just bought my 2019 Suzuki V-Strom 650 XT. I did SW-Motech skidplate and crashbars, wanted the Suzuki high windshield but no longer available in Canada. Have yet to put 1 KM on bike because of the weather. Really looking forward to riding. Mirrors are a little narrow, $40 extentions were very worth it, I to like the mirrors but they do look geeky.

I had a Scott Oiler V version...pain in the ass...what a mess. If one Must have one of these for extended desert running, etc., the electronic is the way to go. If you switch to a double nozzle on both sides of the sprocket, use the blue oil, and turn the flow rate down, you might find it works better. I use chain wax now that I have a center stand, much happier. I have 3" black ABS plumber pipes attached to the inside of the top rail of my panier racks with large hose clamps, screw down waterproof inspection caps on the back end, in which I carry the chain wax, rags, latex gloves and cleaning supplies, works great.

Nice Video, I also wish I would have had bought the quick release rails for the panniers. I have the Trekker Outback givi boxs 48ltr. I'm also looking at getting barkbusters, but not sure if I will go with brand name ones. And am very curious of the skid plate, your point about the givi being very tight to the bike and no room to clean etc. but I think the tighter givi pan may make it harder for rocks and other items to fall in and get stuck from the top. Love your video!
@AGardenShed
@AGardenShed 5 жыл бұрын
ColeK yeah I was tempted by the outback panniers but they make the bike a lot wider than mine. Can’t fault them well worth the money. Givi belly pan feels so flimsy in comparison. Never had issues with anything going inside the belly pan. Apart from mud.

As an owner of three new ‘Stroms with, collectively, over 200 000 kilometers on them - ridden long and hard through many countries- I can say that the usual farkels (like mentioned here) are nice, but expensive functional modifications make the bike near useless. Nope, I didn’t “use” the wrong prefix. The ‘Strom is a great basic bike that will not let you down. To spend thousands on suspension, exhaust, and brakes is useless: if these features bother you, buy a better bike. I have better bikes, I know. Don’t ask how I know; suffice it to say if I had to run only one motorcycle that gets me away from the bad guys, it would be my ‘Strom. After over 50 years of riding, it’s really the best all-rounder I’ve owned. Oh yeah, good video. After all, it’s not about me . . . right?
@cracotator

I partially agree with you: good handguards, good skid plate and good crash bars are the minimum on this bike. Exhaust, new brakes etc...are useless ;)

Nice video man. The red looks super slick. I think you've helped sway my decision to the quick release Givi Panier racks I'm planning to order for my 2018 650xt. Question - do you have any issues with resonance from the Suzuki Crash bars? I put SW Motech crash bars on mine and it's now got a big vibration from 4900-5400 RPM. They're like tuning forks. I've found the big stromtrooper thread about potential fixes, so planning to try some out this weekend. Just curious if you had to address it. If your bars came on from the dealer you may not notice since you didn't have the baseline from when they were not on. But I lost all the smoothness in those RPMs. Anyway, have fun out there! Great bike.

If you want some good mirrors look at the ones Halford sell they get great reviews from people & I think only £10 each. As for the scotoiler I had a duel injector fitted to my last bike, set it up as per instruction but like you kept flinging oil off. Rang scottoil up & basically told me to ignore the instructions & set the twin injector at the horizontal position & that did the job. My last chain was still going strong& in the green at 42,000 miles but the front sprocket teeth wear early gone.

Thank you. I have seen the cool covers but never really had an issue with getting to hot or comfort. Yes I had seen it, but had the Suzuki one given too me along with the bars FOC when I bought the bike. As I didn't ride the V-Strom off-road I didn't see the need to change it. I just wanted something to protect the oil filter just incase.

What's the seat height with the optional low seat? Can you flat foot both feet? I'm 5'6" as well. Do you have to bend forward much to reach for the handlebar? A side view photo with you on the bike would be great help. Thanks.

chong-keng limdr 820mm. Depends on how you set the preload as that effects ride height. Yes it’s possible but I prefer it harder so it sits higher. No I’m pretty much upright.

I am 5’6” and with original seat I find that I’m on tip-toe. My local Suzuki dealership recommended that I should go for the lowering kit which is by far the cheaper and best option. This takes up to a whopping 30mm off the original height. They have even offered to fix it onto a demo bike for me to test ride, as this would be my first big bike.

Very good vid and extremely good choice of extras (apart from the Scott-oiler but hey-ho)! Should be fine for touring in Europe, if you get some left-hand drive handlebars! 😉. Where are you off to?
@AGardenShed
@AGardenShed 5 жыл бұрын
Steve Inskip thank you. I did a lot of reasearch in what to get so wasn’t wasting money. I can’t say I’m sold on the Scotoiler but with 200-300 mile days it saves having to oil the chain each night and means I don’t need to carry a large can of chain oil with me. Tweaked the nozzle position so it should work better now. I’m riding to Italy then down Rome then back through Austria Germany and Belgium. Never been to mainland Europe before so excited.

Very nice bike. I am about to buy one. I am from New Zealand and they have some good special deals going here now. Sadly will be trading my GSX S 750 but the VStrom will be a better bike 2 up for my wife and I. With the lowered seat version are you comfortable in flat footing the bike? I am also around 5 foot 6/7. Is it just a lower seat or lowering link that lowers the whole bike? Great review and thanks for the links. Ride safe
@AGardenShed
@AGardenShed 5 жыл бұрын
C-S Botha they are brilliant. I can flat foot it if I have a pillion or luggage easily but just can’t quite if I’m by myself. But it’s not too tall. I just have the standard seat and not lowered. You could just reduce the preload which would make it sit lower. There’s a little twist knob on the side to do it. Takes seconds and you don’t need tools. I prefer a harder ride so actually increased mine so it’s sits higher.

You're 5'6'' and you went for the lower seat - makes sense. But doesn't it increase the reach to the handlebar even more? I test rode this bike once with the stock seat, I'm 5'7'', and I felt a lower back ache after a while...
@AGardenShed
@AGardenShed 3 жыл бұрын
Honestly can’t remember what the bike is like with the standard seat. In theory Effectively you just sit lower there for the bars are higher which would reduce the strain on your back as you wouldn’t be reaching down for the bars as much. Similar to bar riders. Got dodgy everything but never had an issue with my back on the vstrom my shoulder blades start to ached after a couple hundred miles though. But my shoulders have a lack of cartilage so I get that pain on any bike. Definitely easier on my shoulders than precious bikes I’ve owned.

@AGardenShed
@AGardenShed 4 жыл бұрын
Oslaf I had both. Airflow went on eBay and I use the xcreen. But there were two reasons for this. First was I didn’t like how big the airflow looked. The second and most important was the optimal position for the airflow meant the top sat right in my eyeline which drove me nuts. But you have to factor in the that’s down to me as I’m 5’6 with a low seat so it would sit higher. I’m one of the few that doesn’t like the airflow. Most people seem happy with them. In my experience they both perform just as well as each or her.

It was reimplanted and is working satisfactorily. Well, I don't have any difficulty activating the V-Strom's clutch. Exercise your hand....

No I didn’t. At that point I was working 70 hour weeks and spending every free moment looking after my grandmother who was really ill but I don’t mention that in videos. A KZfaq video is no where near as simple to make as you would think. Each 10 minute vlog takes atleast 5 hours to make. I don’t see it as my gain. I make KZfaq videos for fun, to keep track of memories and to help people. I do not profit on anyway from them apart from the enjoyment of interacting with people. Yes my videos do have adverts which earn less over 6 months than a tank of petrol costs for which all goes towards better cameras, microphones for the channel. So in short no I didn’t have time to do the video exactly how I wanted to but I hope it has helped people none the less. I’m sorry if it didn’t meet your standards.
