Same issue on one of my 2022 model y doors. Took it to service center and they said door was fine but adjusted passenger door since they said it was out of spec. Shrug. I’ll make another appointment or try to fix myself if I get brave. Thanks for sharing this video.

Very interesting Tool !! ... I thought the hinges would have had adjustments. The hood adjustments are the easiest to fix, the underside of the frunk has two knobs that are justable
@samg55433 жыл бұрын
The hinges possibly have some adjustment but you risk exposing bare metal if you shift them around.

I tried fixing this on my car after getting a replacement door by removing the door and moving the bottom hinge on the chassis back as to move the door up at the back end of it. Twice I tried it but it didnt make much improvement. I gave up the second time because putting that door back is absolutely exhausting.

Just got my new Tesla 3 yesterday and the doors are misaligned. Already set up an appointment to have it adjusted but very scared if the service will do a good job or not. When we went to pick up the car, we saw other new cars also had the same problem. This was a known factor, but I do not understand why this is still happening. Have to drive 2 and a half hour to have this fixed.

This sounds wrong. Tesla mobile service will go anywhere for repairs. We are 4 hour round trip to closed SC and mobile repair comes to my wifes office and does repairs on site. They did door alignment one time and upgraded charge port with new design that has improvements for winter. We are just out of warranty now, the mobile tech sold me upper control arm which needed replacement and diagnosed the issue for 0.2h and I had part installed by friend who is a mechanic and they did alignment at local shop. I'm in Ontario, Tesla service has been amazing for me so far, 100k km's on Model 3

Would you know how to adjust the trunk? The gap on one side is around twice the other side below the brake lights.
@samg55435 жыл бұрын
First make sure that the trunk lid is flush with the quarter panels. If not, you should be able to lift or lower the stops by the tail lights to raise or lower its closed position. If it's flush with the quarter panels already, you need to adjust your bumper cover to match the trunk lid. This can get pretty involved, so don't mess with it unless you're familiar with body work.
@teslamr73335 жыл бұрын
@@samg5543 Thank you for the response. It makes sense now what you are saying. I never would have thought that the bumper cover is the one that would have to be adjusted. I think I might leave this one to the professionals.

Do you know if the front hinges are adjustable where the hinge bolts to the car? I know they are non adjustable where they bolt to the door but wondered if the front hinges could be moved slightly up or down on the body?
@samg55435 жыл бұрын
I haven't tried that, but i would assume there is a little adjustment there.

@@samg5543 here is my issue: twitter.com/WadeAndersonPT/status/1108116890759553024 I unbolted the bolts that attach the hinge to the door and that part is not adjustable. I will try unbolting the hinge from the car body next and see if it will adjust there. Tesla has told me over and over that the doors are not adjustable and Tesla Service said it was a problem with the machinery when the car was built. They will not attempt to adjust the door, but look at that video and it is pretty significant, especially when I compare to the passenger side.
@JimArnold65 жыл бұрын
@@TeslaSocial My passenger front door was also a bit low like in this video. Telsa adjusted the door for me so it was aligned.
@samg55434 жыл бұрын
If there is not enough adjustment in the hinge holes, you will have to remove the door from the car, tape around the original location of each of the hinges on the body, then remove them, file out the bottom of every hole in the hinges by the amount you want to move the door up, then bolt them in place (only move the hinges up vertically based on your original tape outlines, not horizontally) test fit the door and make sure it fits. Once you are done, re-mark the hinge locations, then remove them again, touch-up the paint behind them so they don't rust (you will be exposing metal that was not coated at the factory), use body caulk behind the bolt heads if any of the hinge holes are now exposed with the bolts installed (to keep water from getting into the hinges) then reinstall them in the new locations and remount the door.

Wait how is this the proper way to do this. Doesn't this put stress on bolts and hardware/hinges rather than actually aligning things properly like re-positioning the door striker or hinge?
@samg55434 жыл бұрын
Yes, this bends things. If there is no provision for adjustment in the holes, this is the only way. If you move hinges around, you also disturb the paint "seal" behind the hinges and it can start rusting.
@dantdang7205 жыл бұрын
The problem with my Model 3 is that the bottom half of the front driver door is not flush with the back door. It is more inward. Do you have any suggestion how to fix it? Tesla Service Center refused to fix it even though with one eye open you still can see the misalignment . They said it was within the tolerance. I don't know what to do. Thank you.
@samg55435 жыл бұрын
I would have to see how the fender and rocker panels look before telling you exactly what to do, but you can possibly adjust it at the hinges by loosening the lower hinge bolts on the door side and pulling the door bottom outward slightly, but if it's already flush at the fender and the front of the rocker panel, you will need to twist the back of the door slightly to maintain the fender and rocker alignments. You would do this by propping the door open at the bottom, against the door jamb, with something like a short 2x4 and pushing the top of the door towards the car to twist it. Obviously, you need to protect the paint on the door and body and be careful to spread the loads out to not dent anything. If you are not able to do it, then take it to a body shop that isn't scared of it. Something like this should only take a good body tech about 30 mins. There may even be a tool out there that will twist doors, but I haven't ever looked for one. try autobodytoolmart.com

@@samg5543 Thank you so much for your advice. The instruction is very logic and makes sense totally. However, I don't think I can do it myself because I am not a mechanic. I wish your shop is around here (Bay Area), I would bring the car to you right away. Again, I really appreciate your advice.

How does this work? Looks like it just bends the bracket or something.. I hope that's not right lol
@samg55434 жыл бұрын
Yes. It is bending the door hinges. It's only a tiny amount and better than breaking the paint seal behind the hinges if you were to loosen the hinges. This type of thing is done in factories too but you never see it so it looks brutal after the fact.
