Thanks for the video. Just so other 2.5 gen owners know, the 2.5 does not have the wires ran to the back and the white connector only has 3 wires.

Good to know. As irritated as I was with Toyota for not wiring the door, I guess I was lucky having the wires I had.

Thank-you so much for this video. And for doing all the "figuring out" of how to take apart those door panels. I'm always scared that I'll break something.

My pleasure. I don’t know if you saw my other two videos on the same topic. I ended up making a total of three videos to sort of cover everything.

Did my front speakers and tweeters and wanted to add rears. This video is super helpful thank you very much.

Glad it helped. I have a total of 3 videos on this project. Might give you more details.

Good shit. I took my door apart and didn’t find a connector. Couldn’t get the back panel off so I gave up. Very helpful! Thank you!
@RAWFIXIT2 жыл бұрын
That's correct. The connector is not inside the door. It is behind the side panel inside the truck. That back panel can be tight and it is hard to get your fingers behind the seam. You can use a plastic trim panel tool but once you get a grip on it, you just have to yank it hard to get the clips to let loose.

What's interesting is I have an access cab as well. And at first I thought the function of my rear speakers mattered more. And I amplified some rockford fosgate punch speakers in the rear doors. They were nice and loud but I was curious about different setups. What I tried was I bridged my 4 channel amp to send all power to the front door speakers and dash tweeters. I left the rear doors powered by the factory headunits. It sounded way better to me. Much better staging. Having loud rear speakers sounded strange coming from behind conflicting with the front speakers. Plus I don't sit back there, I don't need loud high quality sound back there. But this is awesome seeing your solution to your issue. Very well done. Not just amateur wiring through the door jams.

Yes I agree. The front speakers really do all the heavy lifting. Truth is after I was done, I didn’t notice a tremendous improvement by adding rear speakers. That said, it just bothered me to have a fader that didn’t work and holes where rear speakers should have been. If nothing else I Satisfied my OCD. 😆

Are you planning a follow up video showing the finished project?

Uploading it now. Should be there shortly.

Thanks man. What did you end up doing with the rear door panels? Looking for some ideas.

When you remove the plastic covers you are left with 6 holes. Drill them out carefully with the smallest bit you can. I bought plastic auto plugs from Amazon and glued them in place. Here is the link. www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0017UBHQS?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

@@RAWFIXIT thanks. So when the cover is gone the speakers sit flat? Would like to see a picture. Do an amp?
@RAWFIXIT2 жыл бұрын
@@johnyoung5482 im out of town and away from the truck. The speakers are mounted to the metal door frame behind the plastic door panel. All you see is the door panel just as if it had factory speakers. Unfortunately Toyota installed the extra plastic cover over the top of the “mesh” in the plastic door cover. So it has to be drilled out to be removed. That’s why you are left with the holes. Otherwise it would look just like a door panel from a trim level that came with speakers.

@@johnyoung5482 Not sure if this link works, but give it a try. This is not my truck, but I found the picture online. I did a cleaner job than this person, but it gives you an idea of what it looks like after you drill the holes and remove the cover, before you install the plastic plugs from amazon to cover the holes. It is a shame toyota decided to add the extra cover on the access cab. Otherwise it would look like a normal tacoma with speakers. twstatic.net/attachments/69215656_554986508641841_798194134945051_b4aa9a0d0afd43b372dabd128f3bdb65fa21487b-jpg.3493679/

How did you connect the speakers at the head unit, is it the stock one? I see 4 lavender wires which I think are the speaker connection... are the 2 new rear speakers spliced into these or do they connect at the 2 unused slots on the harness?
@RAWFIXIT4 ай бұрын
I actually made 3 videos on this. See links below. part 3 shows the wires. On my specific truck, it was already wired from the head unit all the way to the back of the cab. I didn't have to touch the head unit. All the wiring took place in the back of the cab. What was missing was the wires inside the back access doors and of course the speakers themselves. Also had to alter the door panel to reveal the speaker grid. Talk a look at the other two videos, especially part 3. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/e7GPn6qGvZ7dfYE.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ma9ogqphtOCYZ3k.html

I upgraded my fron speakers and tweeters but I also have the base model so does putting them in the rear doors make a difference?
@RAWJITSU4 ай бұрын
I’ll be honest, I think the front speakers do most of the heavy lifting and the rear speakers really didn’t add much. But it bothered me to have a fader that didn’t work and holes where speakers should be. Chalk it up to my OCD.
@xsoundwavex41434 ай бұрын
@RAWJITSU Thanks. I'm kind of the same way. I always like to have more of it pushed to the rear when I'm driving.
@RAWJITSU4 ай бұрын
@@xsoundwavex4143 If you have the time and a little money, and enjoy working on projects, then the speakers certainly won't hurt. I have my fader set up slightly to the rear. I bought modest speakers from crutchfield knowing I was keeping the factory head unit and was not adding an amp at this time. So the whole project I think was less than $75. That included a few replacement clips for the door panels from Toyota (a couple will likely break) and the plastic plugs from Amazon.
@xsoundwavex41434 ай бұрын
@RAWJITSU man you weren't lyin bout the fronts doing all the work. I finished my project today. Had to use bolts to hold them in and had some plugs for that stupid panel. Sounds pretty good turned up. Thanks for the vid, advice and finding those wires. 🤘

Do you know if the connectors/wires are the same for the 2011 Tacoma?
@RAWFIXIT Жыл бұрын
I don't know for sure if they changed colors over the years. I would hope all 3rd gen Tacoma would be the same, but you never know.

Would it be possible to install 6x9 instead of the actual size
@RAWFIXIT Жыл бұрын
I’m not sure how much room is in the door. You would definitely need to cut some metal out of the inside of the door. Also, the plastic door panel only has holes for a 6 inch round. I don’t see the benefit in that.

Where did you find the step bars for the access cab?
@RAWFIXIT Жыл бұрын
I’m pretty sure they’re Toyota Genuine accessory. My dad had them installed when he bought the truck at the Toyota dealership. I ended up buying the truck from my dad.

What size speakers did you use?
@RAWFIXIT Жыл бұрын
I used 6 1/2 inch infinity speakers from Crutchfield. They send you a plastic conversion plate but if I remember, the holes did not line up perfectly so I think I drilled some holes in the plastic ring supplied by crutchfield and used my own bolts, nuts and lock washers. In eitehr case, 6 1/2 is the size you want.
