Is this possible on mk6's as well? I want to put new tips on but am not sure if there is bare piping underneath the chrome tips. Thanks!

Hey lasthuman, you had your calipers on fraction not decimal. It was 3 and 15/128" for the outer and inner 2 and 63/64". Also what may help you is the screw on the top of your readout is a lock. So if you get your measurement and screw it in lightly you'll get a more accurate reading. For the outer, I'm guessing its 3 1/8" and the inner is 3" and I bet if you measure that pipe it's 1/16" thick x 2 = 1/8 So you'd have 1/8 " of metal in total left and right side. good tip, ive used the top screw before. but i didnt know it had so many modes.. ill do more measurements for myself later.. it would suck if i order the billet tips and they are 1mm too small to fit over these bare pipes.. but i really think they will fit. I need someone to do an exact measurement of the MK7 chrome tip... cuz billets slide over it. then i will know if mine will work.

I drive a Golf MK7 GTI 2016 with the smaller chrome overlays. Do you know wether the outer diameter the same as yours when you cut away the overlays? Thanks. I would like to mount other tips for screwing

should be a 1/2" difference in tip size between mk7 and mk7.5. WITH chrome, the mk7 is 3" and the mk7.5 is 3.5". without, you lose about 1/2", but not quite.

True. Oxide 120 grit might break the edge. Will the Berger tips fit the MK VII ? Cheers

i dont know oxide, but maybe some kind of pumice stone might do it. i mean its not that bad either..

sure i think it looks awesome actually. now a straight mk7 guy wont like it, cuz HIS tips are prob 2.5" bare... but ours are 3" bare..

Just like all VW's even the piping is metric that measurement after you removed the chrome tip is 3.15" = 80mm. Bad news I've been looking at exhaust tips endlessly for the last couple days and you're going to be hard pressed finding a tip that will slide over. Everything (all the exhaust tips and adapters) are standard SAE (inch measurements) and I don't know of any tips with a inlet size larger than 3.75" most are 2.5inlet" for a 3.5" tip. Looks like you're stuck with a bare tip but maybe you could look at sites in Europe?

Earplugs and a little sandpaper on tip edges. Looks way better with chrome gone!
