I have a 2021 Turbo premium plus sedan and I hit 80,000 miles a few days ago. Before it I owned a 2019 NA Mazda3, and I traded up to the turbo during COVID when prices were low and I could haggle ($31,000, which was $500 under msrp). I’ve had zero issues with engine reliability (my vin doesn’t fall under the TSB, thankfully); the rear differential blew during a cross-country road trip at 36,000 miles, but that was replaced quickly under warranty, and I think it had something to do with doing donuts for ~30 mins straight in the snow lol. Even when it was blown, the car was completely drivable in 2WD, and kind of fun since it would do an extended burnout every time I floored it. It is much quicker than the NA. The best 0-60 I got in my 2019 was 7.6s, while my 2021 does 5.3s (verified with dragy).

I recently bought the 2023 Mazda CX-30 in Platinum Quartz Metallic -- the slightly bigger sibling to the Mazda 3. I really love it. It's been a very long time since I hopped in a vehicle and felt this sort of enthusiasm. Most modern vehicles in this segment (and slightly larger segments) feel more or less similar to one another in terms of quality, safety and features. The Mazda is different. It really feels premium, fun and driver-oriented. It's obviously on the smaller side (it is a subcompact, after all). However, the vehicle is, well, a joy to drive. I look forward to drives that used to feel mundane in my other vehicles. I recently returned from an April camping trip near Mt. Shasta. So, I drove the vehicle through the dirt, mud and snow. Not only did it conquer those elements, but it still felt exciting and fun. My CX-30 replaced a larger Ford Explorer (V6). Yet, this Mazda feels like it has more zip from start to finish. It lacks the height and space (obviously); however, it is great for our little family (just my wife and me so far). It's not too small for rear passengers on relatively short drives either. Still, it's a beautiful vehicle that feels more like an extension of the driver than a mundane and less powerful Toyota, Honda, Ford, Hyundai or even Subaru. I started out my research ready to buy a Toyota or Honda. I considered a Ford Bronco Sport and even a Hyundai Santa Cruz (until I understood some of the quality issues currently plaguing Ford and Hyundai). So, my only other consideration was Subaru. I took a good, long look at Subaru (mostly the Crosstrek and Forester). Ultimately, the CX-30 with its standard AWD, lack of CVT (woohoo), higher level of quality and greater power just made the decision easier. It really came down to the Mazda 3 Hatch or the CX-30. For the slightly better room, we went with the latter. It still feels like an incredible value for what we paid.

I have a 2014 Mazda 3 sedan with the 2.0 engine. Still running strong like a champ with no issues.

Before I moved to a cold climate and needed something more workhorse-y, I had the polymetal gray with red interior manual. Felt like a premium car without a super premium price. I also enjoyed the dial so much more than my current touchscreen. Best everyday driver car since it was engaging, safe, had excellent sound, and just generally fun! At least for me those things were important.

I’ve got a 22 turbo PP, it’s an incredible car. Absolutely love it. Coming from a 2011 r56 mini, it doesn’t handle quite as well but lacks wheel spin and turbo lag. It’s much more driveable.

This was very interesting to watch, long term reviews are pretty neat. Overall it sounds like a great low end economy car but with current prices it’s tough to bite the bullet on one right now

2022 Mazda3 GT AWD (in the US it's called Premium package) 2.5 NA. I took delivery in Feb 2022, got the airbag light issue, it was a lot of back and forth with the dealer before I got a service advisor who knew about the service bulletin. But I've got this other problem with the rear center seatbelt sensor, it constantly chimes when somebody sits in the right rear seat. You know, one of my favorite things about this car is the lack of touchscreen because I struggle too hard with touchscreens in a moving vehicle, the joystick knob is pleasing to use and let's me complete functions based on muscle memory instead of taking my eyes off the road. I wish I got the stick shift as that's what I rest drove before ordering. Found out an AWD had been ordered and the customer changed their mind and got a cx5 instead so I claimed it. It was still in dock in Hiroshima and I only had to wait 3 months instead of 6.

Been the sole driver of a 2020 premium red ext/red int hatch lease and am now deciding to buy it out. Couldn’t be more excited, 3 years and no major issues, pads and rotors are starting to wear at 42kmiles but that’s to be expected for a daily driver. This video was pretty accurate, to say the least. I’ve had no interior rattling or ac issues. Paint chip yea, but not enough to really notice. The only complaint I can say is the glossy finish around the gearbox. Does scratch easily. As well as the rims do bend easier on the 18in. I went through one on a nasty unexpected pothole. Pretty premium car for an affordable price and it looks gorgeous too, AWD can’t beat it. Fantastic review

I’ve put nearly 30k miles on my 22 hatch and this thing hasn’t let me down. I drive a LOT and it’s a mix of cross country and city driving, this car has exceeded my expectations. People who’ve ridden in it didn’t believe I only paid 23k for it brand new because of the nice interior and how preppy it feels.

I hope to get a chance to get one before the new model comes out. I believe the exterior styling of this Mazda 3 HB will age really well and will become a classic in the future.

I love the dial to control the infotainment. It feels natural, it’s snappy, it doesn’t leave your screen covered in fingerprints and it’s much easier to control while driving. For me it could be a reason to buy a Mazda over another brand

I bought my top trim 2019 Mazda 3 (Japanese made since I live in South Africa) about a year ago at ~37k miles. I'm just hitting ~50k miles now. I've had 0 issues since buying it, it's been an absolute pleasure to drive. Everything in the car feels so refined, and the interior quality feels like I'm driving a Mercedes. Best purchase I've ever made.

I never owned a car with today’s technology until I bought my first Mazda.. so the infotainment dial is the only thing I’ve ever known as far as modern technology and I love it.

Many of the common issues you list were from early 2019 production runs. The rear view mirror falling off was from early Mexico built cars. The AC issue was a 2019 issue that I believe was primarily the ones without a sunroof where it was overheating to compensate for a sunroof that was not there.

I have a 23 premium plus hatch. Can’t speak much to longevity of the turbo since I only have 2600 miles so far, but I will say the car is super fun to drive and elegant inside and out. I have noticed some minor clicks and creeks in the cabin, specifically the glove box as mentioned in the video. One major complaint I have is the sidewall of the seats. Literally had terrible creasing in mine since sub 500 miles, and I’m meticulous about getting in and out of it as to not put too much pressure on the side of the seat. Never heard abt the paint chipping issues, had mine ceramic coated professionally right after I bought it anyways so guess I’m very glad I did that.

2022 Sedan Signature (Turbo AWD with Polymetal exterior and red leather interior) here. So far about 11k Km and everything is great! Loving the car, also the issues regarding the oil consumption were fixed before my car was made so I don't have that issue at all

Well my arms is ruined for the next months as well the left side of my car (completely) 😢… but one thing I know for sure, next week I’m getting the new Mazda 3

I have purchased my Mazda 3 in 2019 when it came out in Europe. Mine has the base engine, but alle the other upgrades. So far I had only issues with the braking sensor (sometimes going off with no reason), the door sensor noch reacting (in cold weather or rainy weather) as well as my battery dying after 4 years (yesterday). I do have minor rattle every once in a while (especially at hotter temps) and i have seen my rimms getting scratched very easaly. At the same time there was a recall in 2020 for my car where they adressed a bug in their software that had to do with the parking assistant and distance assistant. Other than that I love the car and i do not regret puchasing it. I should have gone for the 2020 version though with the better engine and the AWD. My next car will surely be a Mazda again, if they keep the amazing exterior and interior design and the very reliable engine and all the safety feautres (best in class). Also fuel economy is pretty good as well. I drive at about 6,8L at 100 Km, though i mostly drive in rural areas / often in traffic jams. On motorways that are relatively flat I can get down to about 5,7L at 100 Km.

Great video. I have a 2023 manual. It's my 6th 3 since 2009, all manuals. I love the infotainment controls. Finger prints on touch screens drive me crazy. The cylinder deactivation vibration was immediately noticeable and continually annoying if I don't try to ignore it. I Googled the issue after only about 200 miles of driving thinking my car had a defect, only to find out it's just what it is. Haven't tried to get it "fixed" since it seems to be a quirk that Mazda says is normal.

I loved driving my cousin’s 2020 manual Mazda 3 and I agree the dial es fantastic. In Colombia we got the smallest, cheapest engines but I still think it is fantastic. Now I am in Argentina and sadly Mazda left the country years ago.

Love the 2.5 sky active and manual transmission. Have a 2017 Mazda6 touring with almost 100k. Has been bullet proof and loads of fun. The engine really has the perfect blend of HP and torque throughout the RPM range. The handling is quality. My only mod (other than a few cosmetic items) was for slotted brakes which have made a definite difference for the good on the braking. Can't say enough about the normally aspirated 2.5 or the manual. They are perfect together.

Interesting comments on the paint and brake quality issues. I really want a new Mazda 3, I formerly had a Mazda 2 and loved it 9for what it was) but the brakes were appalling (the rotors warped & needed machining after not many k's) and the paint had clear-coat chipping issues on the tailgate

I have a 2019 Preferred NA FWD Hatch and I do have cylinder deactivation vibrations at highway speeds (more noticeable when using radar cruise control). I’ve also had screen rattles but they replaced the entire screen under warranty and it’s been good since. 45k and going strong!

I've done just shy of 80k on my 2020 3 Sport GT (manual, Black/w red interior, all of which I'm in love with) and I've had basically no issues outside of bit of a graphical glitch (thin lines) developing on my tach, I'm in love with it still. I do wish I was able to have the AWD but I adore the gearbox on this one, it shifts like butter. Also very anti touch screen so I was stoked that its the knob. No AC issues but I am really sad that the paint chips like it does, especially with the black finish.

A bit late commenting on this video but only just found your channel here in the UK Just bought a 2022 Mazda 3 so was interested in Zach's opinion on his Mazda. Here in the UK we only get the choice of 2 engines a Skyactive G with 122 bhp and a new e Skyactive X with 186 bhp and 240 nm's of touque which I have, we don't get a turbo version here. I am loving this car so smooth and coming from a turbo car don't notice much difference in acceleration.You get so many safety features and other extras as standard on this car that German makes charge for and the interior quality is amazing, glad I chose a Mazda, Cheers guys.

We have a 2021 CX-5 and love it. Complaints are the sensitivity of the adaptive cruise (brakes way too hard when it detects a car in front) and the excessive number of steps needed to navigate the infotainment system. Can confirm the annoying piano black glossy interior and the paint issues. None of that makes this not a great vehicle. It’s our third Mazda (2012 3, 2014 6).

I bought a 2023 premium trim in black on 10-25-22 and it now has 14,022 miles. My chief complaints are the super scratch prone black gloss interior surfaces, for the price theres an unreasonable amount of interior rattling that seems to be very temperature sensitive. Like you can turn your front defroster on full blast in the cold and after a few minutes the rattling will stop. Plastic expanding/contracting. Also rattling in the HUD module most often, as though the little door that closes isnt very secure. Overall though, i love this car. Minor annoyances that could be improved upon, but a car with these kinds of features and this attractive of an interior/exterior design for the price must has have a catch, in my opinion. Ill take some slight rattling thatll be absolutely drowned out by a fantastic bose sound system lol.

i love the dial too, it allows you to have an easy use UI/UX interface button that allows you to easily still focus on the road

I prefer manual transmission than AWD so I picked up 2021 6MT same color as yours on December 2020, no regret at all. I don’t really care much about scratch at this point.

I’m glad you discussed the AWD! Phenomenal in BC Canada. Literally drove past SUV’s that were stuck with no issues lol. The 3 will send up to 50% of available power to the rear. I also like the dial. It’s easy to learn and I don’t even have to look at it anymore.

Great long term review - I have a 2019 Mazda 6 turbo - 57,000 miles. No issues… but agree with the ‘weak’ HVAC, and had to replace the breaks a little soon as well. Overall amazing cars

Common issue he forgot to mention, the gauge cluster get scratched easily. I was aware of this issue from the beginning and been using only soft microfiber towels. I can see multiple scratches when the sun glare on it! My battery (2021) will also need a replacement soon. No major issues, just annoyances.

I’ve got a 2023 GT (Canadian market) that has an annoying rattle from day one on the passenger side that the dealer couldn’t locate, as well as the airbag issue on the rear seats that they also didn’t know how to fix, so I’ve sent this video to them for reference and hopefully in next week’s service, they’ll know more about these issues and possible solutions thanks to you guys! I've got a 2019 cx-5 and have had that glove box rattle on and off for a while now. My dealer said they didn't know anything about it as a common thing, but I'll have to take a look and see if I can find that bracket you mentioned

Seeing a lot of valuable input here from Mazda owners. Having been fortunate to have had now five Mazda 3 vehicles (2009i, 2015s GT, 2018 GT, 2021 AWD turbo hatchbacks, and now a 2023 AWD turbo hatchback), I see a number of common problems mentioned throughout this thread, some of which I've experienced myself. No major issues, but a number of minor ones. The not so good things: The Soul Red/Soul Red Crystal paint on my 2015 - 2021 hatchbacks chipped far too easily. It's a beautiful color, but not very durable. Neither the dealer nor Mazda offered any help with the paint problem. The brakes really don't inspire a lot of confidence, especially in a panic stop, and the rotors tend to warp noticeably within the first 20k miles. The batteries in my 2021 and 2018 were on their way out after 2 years. The piano black interior trim will scratch if you even LOOK at it the wrong way. That's what happens when you put a purely decorative finish on a functional surface. An annoying driver's window frame rattle in my 2021 hatch would appear whenever the outside temp got below 40°F. I've also noticed the same rattle in my 2023 hatch. The rear suspension in my 2021 AWD was absolutely brutal over any type of pavement bump or hole. Maybe "jarring" is a better way to describe it. That was definitely the most unsatisfying thing about that car. The 2021 hatch also felt a bit rough around the edges when compared to my other hatches, and the quality control on my 2018 (Mexico) hatch seemed to be better than the 2021(Japan) hatch. I did notice some unexpected oil consumption in the 2021 turbo, but that seemed to taper off by the time I traded it in @ 26k miles. The 18" wheels are prone to bending if they take a good hit from potholes, etc. My two Gen 3 hatches (2015, 2018) were more fun to drive on really twisting roads than my two Gen 4 hatches. Now, the good things: Not the cheapest brand out there, but a lot of features and value for the money. Typically, Mazdas don't have regular or repeated recalls like a lot of other car brands do. It's much more stylish than many other car brands. Generally, I've noticed that the little annoyances from each model year actually got addressed by Mazda. The 2.5L NA version was fun to drive, but adding the turbo was LONG overdue in this car, and gave it the kind of boost (no pun intended) that it's really needed for so long. The back seat really isn't as cramped or tight for most people as everyone says it is. Cargo space behind the rear seat isn't what you would call spacious, but we've packed it with four suitcases for road trips and still had space available. Obviously, gas mileage for the turbo version isn't nearly as good as my NA Mazdas have been, but I've managed to get 39+ MPG from the turbo on the highway as long as you drive it sensibly. But, then, where's the fun in that? I think most people who buy the turbo version probably aren't too concerned about gas mileage. Some of the driving fun may have have been lost in the transition from Gen 3 to Gen 4, but it's still a fun car to thrash around. Is it quick? It's quick enough. It's not a Mazdaspeed 3 but, right now, it's the closest thing we have from Mazda.

I love my 22 turbo 3. I also love Mazda implementation of AWD in the snow, you can definitely make it act like a RWD bias vehicle. I’ve driven Chevy AWD systems and they suck, activating too late/ not kicked in when you need it. With Mazda it’s always already engaged anytime I need it.

2019 Mazda 3 premium sedan owner here. Once all the recalls and Technical service bulletins (including for AC and cylinder deactivation) car is running fine. Put tinted glass on the car, so along with TSB, AC works great. It happens rarely, but emergency break light comes on. Cylinder deactivation has led to 37 mpg, mainly highway driving. No real complaints, and my previous cars with Civics (where the AC compressor conks out).

Fantastic cars. My gf has the 3 Sedan in Soul Red Crystal. I can recommend two things: 1. A cheap aluminium panel set from china which cover all piano black parts in the interior and 2. A ceramic coat of the paint. I wash it by hand - no swirls or scratches. She has the white leather interior which surprisingly has held up really well so far.

Contemplating getting a used 2021 turbo AWD and this video has made me go for it.

Drove a '16 Mazda3 hatchback, 2.0, manual 6-speed, for 2 years and loved it. But I'm old, with faulty lumbar spine and bad knees, and it was painful to get in and out of - just too low to the ground. Searching for a successor that wasn't a full-on monster SUV, I stumbled onto the Kia Niro, and just bought a 2nd one. I love Mazda's design, but they still don't have a hybrid, and the Niro has converted me to a hybrid guy. If Mazda goes hybrid, I'll definitely reconsider.

i've had my 2021 mazda 3 hatch for 2 years this august after having a 2016 for 5 years (that was taken out by a rogue silverado driver). truly one of the only physical changes I would make to the interior are the cup holders. I hate how they are under the dashboard, making it impossible for taller drinks to fit or to put in a cup size adjuster in order to fit my hydro flask. and I also agree that the interior plastic around the controls scratches way too easy. other than that, I love the car and the way it drives. I also am a big fan of the screen not being touch. it's truly so much easier to manuever with the dials in the center console.

One thing I got to verify about the "non touch screen" in the 2023/2024 models, when you are in apple car play or android you can use the touch features, even on the 8 inch base version. Still, the dial is great.

Currently leasing a 2020 base and i was initially really happy with it. Now at 40,000 miles. In the first two years I've had to replace both visors, middle arm rest cause it tore , and the silver foil on the window switches flaked off ! Very disappointing! The transmission is a little jerky as well and my front sway bar links are cluncking ! The sway bar links are an issue i have had on all of my mazda 3s , but i was hoping with the higher price that mazda improved them. Also just had a vehicle system malfunction light come on the other day 😢.Not sure I'll be keeping it !

Happy to say I've not had any issues on my '19 3 Skyactiv-X at 43k miles (UK)

19k miles into my 2021 3 hatch awd 2.5turbo pp trim. Leased for now but heavily leaning to purchase at end. My favorite thing is the handling. Smooth buttery turns even at faster speeds. After feeling this difference I can't stand riding in my friends crossovers/suv's, any little turns feel akin to being tossed around on a boat at sea! Other things I like... I'm in the midwest of US AWD handling on winter snow and wet spring/autumn country roads has been plenty capable even with stock all season tires. I like it's been averaging 35mpg (my typical use is an equal mix of city and hwy miles.) I love the dial! I never have to look at ugly fingerprints all over my screen. HD 360 cameras are crisp and clear. Love the HUD and I use the traffic jam assist w lane keep all the time, car practically drives itself in heavy traffic. Bose system sounds sooo goood. Interior feels premium so much leather and soft touch surfaces, minimalist buttons vents dash design, just a beautiful space to be in. Huge cargo space when back seats down I throw my bike inside, no need to pull any wheels off or use some ugly rack hitched outside. I love the exterior body design, but it's not for everyone, my husband calls it a potato. A few things I don't like... the seat belt alarm comes on way to early has no intermittent pulse, just beyond annoying. Also why does having doors open while loading/unloading for more than a few minutes drain the battery enough for another annoying alarm? Low oil light coming on, initially I thought with synthetic I could go 5k between oil changes, now dealer tells me to change every 3k because turbos use up oil sooner? I also just did the fuel system service at 18k miles, good to know you mention it in this video too. When I use the remote start, then upon entry engine turns off and sends an annoying app notification. Jerky lurch from park every time I forget to toggle off the E brake button. Useless lock button on the hatch gate that just confuses every new person loading my grocery pick up, they're back there mashing at it thinking it's an auto close button. The low front ground clearance in the winter makes a terrifying plow on heavy snow days. I will never never never never ever ever ever put regular gas in a turbo, so of course premium fuel does cost a little more. The nuisances still don't outweigh that it drives so well with great economy, which is what I want most out of the car I'll buy.

The fuel system service does not remove carbon build up off of the valves. Save up all the money you would have spent on those and have the valves cleaned every 90k miles.

22 manual owner here, 16k miles, the tweeter in the drivers door rattles and i also routinely put pressure on it (bose system), ive also got one that comes and goes in the sunroof, other than that the cars been perfect.

I have a 2019 3 hatch. Has been great so far

Screen rattle is a quick fix, you can put something between the screen and panel or the dealership fixed it in warranty for me.
