Great choice for the price JW! Very nice stylish and slim. I have an Alienware 17 R4 which I love, but the Acer Nitro is a great choice. Very good initial review by JW!

@@azprosyx i wanted to, but there were two problems: 1. Latest spec'd gen CPU models are almost always overpriced, regardless of their casual gaming limitations, and coupled with older GPUs to cut cost. 2. None were on Newegg, Amazon, or eBay at the time i bought this, so i just looked for a rig that could play all the best games circa 2007-2017 on high/ultra settings at a low price and, surprisingly enough, this is it. Checked back for at least 2 months afterwards to make sure I'd received a good price/spec before the new gens were released and turns out I'd done pretty well all things considered... At the end of the day, every buyer has a choice to make: Get bragging rights for having a presumably "future-proof" rig and struggle with 48-60 fps on today's latest titles...Or have fun with a cheaper rig that plays 1000s of older titles at high/ultra frame rates. With quarantines still underway and Uber-high cost of today's best config rigs, suppose sellers believe we have money in our matresses to buy them and literally "all the time in the world" to eek through latest games anyway, but i digress lol

Give us a follow up on battery life during normal use, some media consumption, word typing, etc .I shouldn't expect much from a Coffee Lake processor but I wanna see how it holds up.

@@Fled362 its overall a good laptop according to my research. I don't wanna have to work on mine for years once i get it which seems to be covered. Id be using it for gaming and school work. Id say get it now on ebay if you can they have it for 700 up until the 15th right now. I ordered mine last night. With 16 gb ram and over a terabyte of storage.

I've got a -160 undervolt on my I5-9300, pair that with an repaste, and moderate gaming has both gpu and cpu at between the low 50's and 60's, which is a HUGE improvement over the original low 70's and 80's it was getting in the same games. Unfortunately, even at such low temps, the fans still ramp up to 4000 rpm, which is overkill for those temps...

I got the new Thin Bezel Nitro 5 too, i'm considering upgrading the 60hz screen panel to a third party 120hz screen panel. Since the bezel is so slim i wonder if the panel available on the market will fit in this new Nitro ............ Anyone knows if they can fit?

I just bought the older 2017 Nitro 5 with the 8th Gen i5 and 1050Ti with 256GB SSD for just $580 bucks on Best Buy while it was on sale. Considering I'm using it mainly for school, I'm happy to have saved $250 for a little larger Bezel size :D

Nice review, you missed a couple points, the 2019 version has a better keyboard(more taticle) and better battery life.

Students got $100 off so I only paid $699. Also avoiding taxes during tax free weekend in TX. $699 is a good price for this unit but I would have stepped into something different if I had to pay the $799 plus taxes. Though the improvements on benchmarks from last gen to this generation are negligible. Its all synthetic benchmarks... no one would notice that amount of gains or losses in real world application. The real thing that would make a noticeable difference to the end user would be upgrading the 8 gigs of ram to 16.

May I ask what's the difference between the older one and the newer one?

@@edmund8954 The new version has the 16xx graphics cards ( 1650 / 1160 ti , depends on model ), that are a considerable improvement from the previous generation ( 1050 4gb , 1050 ti ) and also has the new 9th generation intel cores , which are just like 1% better than the 8th generation ones .
