2019 BMW 3 Series (ENG) - Test Drive and Review

Күн бұрын2019 BMW 3 Series G20 has new driver aids, a few extra horsepower, new infotainment system. If not for the fact the seventh generation BMW 3 Series is 7.6 cm longer, 1.5 cm wider, and has over 4 cm longwer wheelbase than the F30 generation, at first glance one could assume this is a facelift. Inside the driver is greeted by Live Cockpit - the new digital instrument cluster. There is also a new infotainment system with a configurable screen. The test car is a BMW 330i, which today is no longer a 3-litre inline six, but a 4-cylinder inline four with a Twin-Scroll turbocharger.
Starting price: 38 000 euro
As tested: 66 000 euro

Great review. This car is probably worth every bit of the money it costs. The interior, in particular, looks like you never want to leave it, and the dashboard oozes quality and automotive competence.

one of the best cars I have ever driven.....I did not have the adaptive dampers, just the M dampers..and it was fine...firm, but somehow very satisfying..... I was amazed by the sound insolation in the cabine... it was so relaxing...and pushing the car into the corners felt like driving a much smaller sports car....... Great Review ,Marek...

Nice presentation Marek. This 7th generation is better in every aspect then previous. M version has better look then regular base line version. I don’t like the look of down side front and back bumper, it’s a bit ugly. That’s why M version is more aggressive and beautiful look. All in one, I like presentation and your open and honest review comments since some car reviewers just say good things abut any car without mentioning what’s not good. Keep up with good work!!!

Allan Ø.N. Just speak with a dealer about PCP from BMW, I tested few days ago 330i and received a very good and affordable offer to purchase 330i, realistically in a price of 1-2 years F30 330i

Marcin B i don’t know if we have pcp equivalent here - but the dealers are eager to help .. I plan to wait till I can get one with something like 50k km on the clock and hopefully be able to buy it without any financing.. all dreams.. but luckily dreams are for free you know A game changer could be the Tesla 3series.. the local dealer still haven’t got any available for test driving.. but I doubt I will fall in love with it.. but you newer really know till you testdrive it yourself

And here in Oulu, Finland i'm driving at 60-80km/h on the motorway due to roadworks... Also the maximum speed limit here in Oulu is 100km/h. Somewhere else in finland a crazy 120km/h. Guess why we don't produce such great racing drivers anymore like we used to back in the days...

I'm doing a speed = well over the speed limit. Doing a much more reasonable speed = 20kph over the posted speed limit... ;) I'd take the wagon version for my next car, but BMW has decided to NOT bring it to Canada. UGH. Thanks for the solid review Marek!

13:17 Thank you! First time I ever heard that comment about car technology in a review. If you've earned a driving license, you ought to know how to park a car. All these cameras, sensors and computers helping people to park, is just making traffic even more dangerous. Some people depend 100% on the technology to solve every situation. Also, those people have no idea how to drive an older car or a lower spec car than their expensive super computer on wheels.

:) I wouldn't go as far as to say that cameras and sensors are useless. I think they may help you park sooner, thus reducing traffic. HOWEVER automatic parking systems are generally a gimmick. The amount of time they need to find a spot and park is enough to piss off everyone behind you.

Lovely. I like it. Haven't said that about a BMW for many years. I'm more an X5 person that a 3 series though, and I do not like the fugly nose on the new X5. Will stick to my XC90 until this time next year and possibly longer. Its just the kind of car I like but is getting increasingly out of reach financially.

Why car journalists can't be brave enough and say that the car doesn't drive well enough when it is still on sale? I now hear that the F30 is not so good to drive, but how can we be certain that the g20 us really driving well and that you are not faking it. For the whole truth about G20 we will have to wait for the next generation to come out?

Happens in many cars these days. Sometimes one of the valves is closed. Emissions. Same thing in the Macan.

how much tyre noise does the G20 generate inside? My F30 has too much road noise.

The tyres actually have a dramatic effect on roadnoise. Equip your car with Continental Premiumcontact 6 (not runflats!) and the road noise will be much much quieter. Generally the G20 is quiet without runflats, at least the 320d M-Sport Launch Edition i drove was quiet with Continental non-studded winter tyres. And the F30:s we had without runflats were quiet aswell.

Yes, but that is for a new car. I'm referring to something similar with 15-20k on the clock, which brings down the price to 55-60k. Sure, you won't get to take a brand new car from the dealership, but at why would anyone go for a 330i over a 540i is beyond me (must be the reason why I will never have a new car).

Why would anyone get a used BMW is beyond me. These cars are only safe to own while the new car warranty is in effect. Past the warranty period they become money pit.

And by getting a 1 year old BMW you still have at least 2 years of warranty with the ability to extend with your own money. Not that I would care, I would rather get a used one 30-35% cheaper, mod it and then fix it with my own money if need be and it still wound never cost more than a brand new car of same spec.

I totally disagree with regards to the cockpit. It’s clean, the dashboard looks quality, perfectly laid out, with a nice thick steering wheel. Having said that, I obviously have not had a chance to use it.

Was interested until i heard "still NO Android Auto". Audi offers it standard. Not sure about Merc. But Dang, I'm pretty sure BMW sucks....so behind the game and competitors..

To your comparation to Mazda 6, let me tell you it is surely not a Mazda, why? Well you get less intereior space it is a class less than the Mazda 6, uglier car about the same level of equipment and all that for nearly double the money but hey it is a Bmw right😉
