I feel the need to remind everyone that getting a car is up to you. You can't rely on other people's opinions and the internet. The only people who should be deciding on what vehicle to get are the one's using it. People's time with a car and cars themselves differ and you can't know for sure if someone was treating their vehicle well. I own a 2019 Jeep Cherokee Limited and it's fantastic. Hasn't had a single problem.

I drive a Grand Cherokee with the 8 speed and it acts sluggish too. But I noticed it's only when the ECO button is on. push the button to deactivate and the transmission acts normal. Especially in traffic. I had a Cherokee for a couple days when my GC was in for a recall and it was funky too. Although I pressed the eco button to deactivate and it did act better as well.

Good vid but did the transmission need to be the climax? What about towing and other options/versions?
@baljarie5 жыл бұрын
It’s not that the transmission is confused it’s the fact that it was designed with 2 dog clutches that have to be speed matched to engage and disengage and it takes the transmission a second to do that so when you romp on it at highway speeds it has to disengage 1 dog clutch and engage the other

Pleasantly surprised by the fuel economy on the V6. I was getting 10.7L/100km on my 2012 Mazda3 2.5L. My Trailhawk averages 12.5L/100km. Basically costs $7 more to fill, and takes me the same distance. With an extra 1000 lbs, 2 cylinders and A/T tires, its actually pretty darn good.

Thank you so much for demonstrating this transmission delay problem. I thought I was the crazy one...I did some drive testing with several 2018 models including honda cr-v, honda accord 2.0, jeep cherokee, toyota camry, and hunday kona. THEY ALL HAD THIS DELAY PROBLEM, specially the two honda! Then I tried the honda accord 2.0 MANUAL transmission...a night and day difference. Why on earth there are only a few models that have the manual transmission option??? It is just way more fun and responsive!!! BTW: my rusty 2004 nissan sentra 1.8 with automatic transmission does not have this delay problem...what went wrong since then??
@marcobrocanelli34355 жыл бұрын
@Fubzilla thanks for the polite answer...I see you are open for a constructive discussion.... Anyway, as I said at the end of my comment, my old 2004 nissan sentra does not have the same problem I felt while testing new cars...I accelerate and the car takes 2 or more seconds before starting to actually accelerate...on the other hand, I learned to drive with a manual transmission and I will probably fix this by buying a manual car...
@marcobrocanelli34355 жыл бұрын
@Fubzilla thanks for the explanation. That is my problem with it. Even with your strategy, there is still a lag from the moment i want to accelerate until the moment I (or the car if I floor it directly) actually accelerate. My question is: why with older automatic cars I don't have any of these issues? It looks to me that such special ways to accelerate are not an improvement...

If you knew how to drive it would not be a problem. I've yet to have that problem in the 6k plus miles I've driven my 2019 3.2, you progressively give it gas and you goose it if you need to quick jump out in pass, you don't mash it to the floor like an idiot. But over half the population has no clue how to drive.

Almost bought the older model but hated the 6 light grill. The headlight should be a little larger up and down to fill that gap. The redesign of the back looks so much better. Whoever they fired from before was a good choice. I think they should blend this style with the old body style and you’ll have a winner!!! Square up the front bumper a tad and bring back the roof in the rear a little bit because this is starting to look like a Crossfire/Grand Cherokee...🥴 Give it that “Cherokee Classic” look. There aren't that many. Look at rates on consumer reports. A very small percentage are experiencing it. It has nothing to do with the transmission and everything to do with programming - which is easy to correct.
@diegokane315 жыл бұрын
@John Moore Because of the programming. You haven't actually researched this have you? If you had, you would know that the 9-speed transmissions are not made by Fiat. In fact, this is the same transmission that is used in the Pilot, MDX, and several other vehicles from numerous brands. Your ignorance is showing. Furthermore they are covered under warranty for 5 years.
@diegokane315 жыл бұрын
@John Moore I am not going to argue with someone who fails to understand the basic concept that FCA did not build this transmission. It was the world's first 9-speed and several manufacturers both domestic and import employed it in their vehicles. If you bought the first few years of an unproven drivetrain, you have only yourself to blame. You are obviously getting way too emotional and at this point understand little of how modern vehicles are made. I can't argue with someone who doesnt get the very basics of how vehicles are developed.

So you said you drove the 2015 with a 9-speed transmission? Was it a prototype? They didn't make a 9-speed back then, they made an 8-speed which did have issues with the shifts. Also the V6 is THE only engine for a vehicle this size for it to feel right. The curb weight of the Cherokee doesn't work well with a 4 cylinder (turbo or not). The 4's are just not enough engine. The turbo may feel like it is enough but it is being overworked all the time due to the turbo. It also burns more gas than the larger V6. The V6 doesn't work as hard the majority of the time, and when you need to pass the 6 will get you there, and it will help if you want to tow. Never put a tow package on the 4 cylinder engines or you are just asking for problems. The only good thing about the 4 cylinders is that they are not CVT's.

new headlight design is WAY better. split designs are terrible looking. Also I don't think the transmission is the issue... tromping the gas pedal is the issue... I'm pretty sure to increase the economy, the ECU is purposefully configured to modulate the drive-by-wire accelerator pedal to be gradual/smoother (and more efficient, and probably safer on the drivetrain). Lots of automakers are doing this. Sometimes aftermarket flashing can disable this behavior.

I've got one of these; a 2.0T Limited. It joins an Audi and a Ducati in the stable. Really this is the perfect little SUV. Since its kind of pointless for an SUV to try to be sporty or beautiful, I'm happiest if it delivers on the utility while giving a comfortable driving experience and a non-offensive design. The Cherokee does all that well, and at a decent price for what you get. I think most reveiewers had a low milage one. Mine settled down after a few thousand miles. The transmission works well and the engine still has the best 0-60 in its class (except for that lame GMC). Yeah there’s turbo lag, but what do you want - it’s a grocery-getter. It's a compact that dad won't hate driving. You buy a CRV, you may as well remove your testicles. Even the Mazda is so lame. Like, “hey look at my flashy cheap economy vehicle with no balls under the hood.” The Cherokee is at least respectable. It can at least hang. Maybe it doesn’t have the best gas milage or the most advanced idiot-proofing radar gizmos or every last cubic whatever. But it’s more comfortable, more powerful, less retarded inside, more dignified outside and with a better sound system than the other compacts in its class.

We had two 2016 Cherokee Sports w/AWD and the 2.4L engine. Both seemed to operate much the same w/the 9-speed transmission working near perfectly all the time. Despite the continuous criticism about its shifting I found it quite controllable and rather easily provoked to do what I wanted it to do by prompting it with my foot on the throttle. We enjoyed these two vehicles enough that we just bought a third as the replacement to one of the original Cherokees was recently totaled by someone running a red light. I may also be trading in my vehicle for another one, too.

I can drive mine super-smooth, and know where I need to have the throttle for quick and smooth acceleration. I actually found alot of the transmissions in competitors to shift very harsh. I was shocked how 'unsmooth' they were coming from a manual, and going back to automatic, until I drove one of these. I have to admit the 2014's were bad though, but they seemed to fix all the issues for 2016 and up on the v6 at least. Maybe this guy is just a bad driver? I may be biased since I used only one service center but they are a bunch of crooks. Every time I went for maintenance costed me an average of $600-$800. When I needed to go back for service every month for successive issues, with only 29T miles, I decided to trade it in for a Toyota Highlander Limited Platinum. Every time I showed up for service and maintenance at Toyota, its exactly the opposite feeling compared to Jeep service and maintenance. This is probably true of all modern multispeed transmissions. Manufacturers are looking for gas milage and tune these units to be numb. I recentley drove a Lexus rx 350 (im sure you didn't seee this when you reviewed cars from this manufacturer because you don't actually review them. You just say that they are perfect because that's what people expect you to say) with an 8 speed and experienced the same thing. Also lifting your foot completely off of the gas and then smashing it in a turbo charged car will magnify what you're talking about.

Maybe Stellantis should go with the FPT ( Fiat) transmission...maybe even better - GM? 😮😅

My 2016 Cherokee V6 Limited transmission failed twice, once at 12K and another time at 21K miles. The UConnect multimedia failed at 18K. The shifter failed at 19K. Gotta admit, the Jeep dealership has been nice to give me loaner vehicles when I take the car in for repairs. I don't trust this car for long interstate travel. I'm forced to rent a car for those trips. I regret buying this car, should have bought a Toyota or Honda.

Last model front end was much better than the new one. It looked more unique and different from everything else. Now its just so plain and ugly and regular like all other crossover suv’s.. what a shame.

I disagree about the front end I hated the split headlights the refresh is 1000% better

It's hard on cars to use so infrequently it cause fluids like oil to compleatly drain from the engine between uses thus causing really bad dry starts, many components in cars will suffer dry rot and failure if the engine is not run regularly as the liquids they come in contact with provide them the lubrication and moisture they need. That's why if a car is stored for an extended period of time lots of ware parts need to be replaced before it will run or in short order. If you are not going to drive it you need to run the engine and just drive it on a moderate drive every week or two to prevent damage. I had to do that with my old convertible mini when I would store it for the winter

WTF!! Talks cargo volume never says what it is. Talks price never mentions the price. Talks talks talks and provides so little but talk. The only figure ever mentioned is some confusing babble about HP of some other Jeep. Literally repeats the size of this engine numerous times and even calls it "the most powerful engine yet" but never says the HP. Just a mess of a review. The guy doesn't even seem to comprehend driving modes and use properly. Wants instant response in eco mode and complains while you do get it in sport you "shouldn't have to sacrifice MPG" to do so! WTF WTF WTF! My head just exploded...

I just traded in my 2.4L 4cyl 2015 Cherokee sport for a 2014 Dodge Avenger that is 3.6L and a V6. The new Jeep Cherokees are just not good.

Jeep had five years between this refresh and the old car to ditch the 9 speed and put the eight speed that’s in the the grand Cherokee, but they’re lazy and didn’t want to spend the money Harmonizing a new tranny with the engines and just don’t care because the Jeep badge sells

I DEEPLY REGRET buying my 2020 Cherokees. Learn from my MISTAKES. My 1st 2020 Cherokee was a lemon and my 2nd 2020 Cherokee was not built right and neither Jeep or the selling dealer Bob Poynter Columbus will make it right . BUYER BEWARE do NOT BUY a Cherokee or trust a Jeep dealer. Just Empty Every Pocket is a TRUE acronym.

Give up on the 9 speed and stick with the 8 speed
@brianthomas28395 жыл бұрын
So sick of people saying this. It clearly shows you know nothing about cars. The ZF 8 speed is meant for RWD and RWD biased vehicles and the ZF 9 speed is designed for FWD and FWD biased vehicles. If what you meant is that Jeep should totally redesign the Cherokee such that it is RWD biased and then stick the 8 speed into it, I apologize. However, it is more likely your actual knowledge of automobiles is considerably lower than your perceived knowlege of automibiles and you just think you can mate any two parts togeter with the expectation that they'll work seamlessly.
