Walking through the initial service/ break-in for the Ninja 650 2019 as well as how important it is to get familiar with your motorcycle and walking through how easy it is to maintain your bike! Oil change is the most important, but there are many other things to look over.

Good video and happy to see more doing their own maintenance. Every rider should do so. Just a quick correction, the "Throttle Free-play" is the distance from when you first turn the throttle to the point where it ACTUALLY engages the throttle which is what the 2-3mm is a reference to. Keep up the good videos!

On a personal rant: I think the biggest load of crap is motorcycle warranty. 1 year?? They are betting most riders wont ride in the snow or bad weather. I purchased my new Kawasaki in October 2019. It was stored in the garage by December when the cold, rain and snow made it impossible to ride. I got it out this year around March. I have ridden it a whopping total of 560 miles in 6 months, but my warranty will expire in less than 2 months. Given the seasonal nature of riding, manufactures should at the very least offer a 2 year warranty. This hurts the dealer network as I will not be taking my bike to them for routine service as I have no incentive to do so. Having a longer warranty and enforcing routine maintenance would go a long way to helping dealers. Thanks for a good video.

Blame your country for having lax consumer rights and bending to corporations. In other countries in Europe and Australia, Bikes and Cars are sold with 2 years warranty as STANDARD and 3 years if you service the bike/car with the company that made your bike/car since the consumer laws are a lot stronger and vehicle makers are not allowed to sell if they don't follow them. America bends backwards too much to lobbyists and corporations.

I ride a 2017 Ninja 650 with 60k miles on it, and I have always done my own maintenance and actually just this year, completely rebuilt my motorcycle from the frame. (New swingarm, engine, plastics, everything). And I did all of ny maintenance using that User Manual. When it came to rebuilding the bike, I bought a $20 Official Kawasaki Shop Manual that had everything I ever needed to know to do this rebuild. Save time and money by doing the work yourself. Excellent video, and hope everyone rides safe

I don't wanna feel stressed working on my bike, and you've helped me feel calm thinking "yeah, I can do this." I really liked how you displayed the owner's manual, and showed everything as you did it- explaining what you're doing and why. I now feel even more confident buying my first bike -a ninja 650

Nice one dude, very informative. Personally I think it’s a no brainer doing your own servicing. It’s a sense of achievement and also knowing that you’ve done it properly. I’ve just bought a new Kawasaki w800 and I’m looking forward to doing my own servicing. When you try to sell your bike later down the line, most people are just interested in how little they can get it for never mind the dealer stamps in the book. 👍

Awesome Video Bro. The first service is something that us consumers can do ourselves, especially if you follow the manual. My local dealer wants $250.00 for the first service, excluding the oil and filter. What a rip off! '17 Ninja 650 here. I do most of mine too. Actually all of it so far. For chain maintenance, my rule of thumb is whenever it rains or I end up on a gravel road for some reason, I clean and lube. Other wise it's every two gas tank fills. This fall, I'm going to replace my brake lines with braided ones and change the pads and fluid at the same time. We'll see how the chain and sprocket are around that time too, so get it all done at once and then get it ready for the winter. I love this bike. I put on new tires and it made a difference for grip in wet and the feeling in curves. So much fun on it, isn't it?

Hi Good video overall, only thing that wrong/not showed in the video is the "free play" checks. I'ts mean the free play before the lever start activating the mechanism. Check it by twisting/pulling very gently of the lever/throttle and see that it's got the proprete free play. If not u can change it very easy bu using the 2 screws on the cable.

Thanks! So I know for a fact the dealership can but I didn't find anything in the manual. I know I saw on the z125 there's some crazy steps. Idk if they work on our bike. Turn on the ignition switch and start the engine. Keep the idling speed more than 30 seconds. Run the vehicle more than 5 minutes at a speed of 40 km/h (25 mph) or more. Be sure to keep the engine running during the procedures 2 and 3 for more than 10 minutes in total. Turn the ignition switch off. repeat the above procedures 3 times. Start the engine and check that the yellow engine warning indicator (LED) goes off.

I live in nyc so doing the maintenance myself is not ideal when parked on the street it sucks because I would love to work in it myself. I have the 2019 650 . I want to install my fender eliminator kit myself as well but from some digging around in the net I keep hearing of stories where dealers/Kawasaki void warranties for doing work yourself even when the issues doesn’t have anything to do with what you modified.
@LJsGarage
@LJsGarage 4 жыл бұрын
I've heard if you have electrical issues they could be difficult and say it was on you. Most of the time though exhausts and performance mods are what they go after for voiding warranties. The warranty debate has all sorts of stories and I'd hate to tell you one way or another. I took the chance on mine with only 500 miles on it. If my motor fails and they say it's because of that then I would be surprised and I'd need them to justify that. My next thing is changing the headlights and I hope that's ok with them too.

What kind of Oil and filter did you use? Kawasaki 10w40 or just one from your auto store.

I used the Kawasaki recommended filter and oil. I got it from the dealership nearby.

@@LJsGarage you didn't use a genuine oil filter, it looks like a k&n , if you going to do stuff yourself and then go back to the dealer for warranty ,if you ever need it that is, then you should at least use genuine parts

Weirdest thing just happen. I took my bike in for a oil change and got it back with the with check engine light on. Now there tellling it’s nothing to do with the oil change. I should of took it to a Kawasaki dealer but it was local bike shop in my area that is certified by the state. Now I’m left wondering wat the heck. Prior to this my temperate gauge was shooting up pretty high one bar away from maxing out all the way to the H mark. Idk if that have something to do with it or the gauge going up like that is normal I mean its still pretty cold in New York so I’m puzzled. do your temperature gauge ever pass the half way point? Or goes higher? Or it stay steady ?
@LJsGarage
@LJsGarage 4 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear that! My temp gauge goes up about 5/6th when I'm sitting still then it cools back down with the fans or once I start riding. Scared me at first but that's how these are.
@roverlacai3102
@roverlacai3102 4 жыл бұрын
LJs Garage ok so I guess it pretty normal then . So now after taking my bike to these people my check engine line goes on making me wonder if they put the wrong oil in my bike . Cuz it was jus the gauge I was concerned with before and you bike does the same thing mine does, now I. Have a check engine light after they did the oil change smh

@@roverlacai3102 That really sucks! Have you tried the self-diagnosis mode? If you check the manual it tells you how if I recall correctly. You do a trick with the buttons on the display. It should at least tell you what the code is.

Jus wanna give u an update on my bike. I took for a 15miles ride on the Highway took it up to 7rpm for the first time in the break in stage now at 258 miles on dash. After riding to and from 30miles Total the light went off so i guess it was the engine not recognizing the oil change initially. Thank you

Amazon if I remember correctly "Kawasaki Oil Filter Part Number 16097-0007" I believe or if anything K&N at AutoZone KN-303. Double check that though it's been a minute. Had those written down but idk which I went with lol

did you change the oil filter for a new one right ?or you used the same? and you just change the gasket?
@LJsGarage

Yep, new oil filter & it comes with gasket already and then for the drain plug I reused everything. Technically it's recommended to get a new plug washer everytime, but I dont do that everytime just after so many oil changes. Hope thats what you're looking for!
