Purchased my first Kia in the spring. I didn’t have a choice in what I could pick, because of financing. I purchased the base model Optima, not sure it can be classified as a base model, though. I am used to older cars that have the bare basics. The Optima is very well equipped for the base model. I do beleive I will continue with Kia as long as they prove to be dependable. My question is with the plastic cover that covers the underbody of the car. I know this is to protect the underbody, but, I would think that salt and road chemicals will build up between the cover and the floor of the car. This build up would eventually leed to rust and corrosion on the underbody. The automatic car wash will wash the undercarriage, it will not clean the build up between the plastic cover and the underbody. I have always liked the Chrysler 300, but I know people who have a 300 and are interested in changing over to Kia.

Great video as always! It would look great in black with tinted windows I think. Too bad it won't get fog lights, auto climate control and keyless access and start at this price point but then again it has so many other features so it's give and take I suppose. At least it makes it easier to decide between EX+ and EX Premium :P

500km on full tank that's city driving. Pretty good fuel economy. Only ex+ has Sirius radio but you do not need it if you can use Google play.

White seems to be the colour for the Forte everytime I see one. My 2010 Fusion has the trunk pull handle which is very handy. Nice car this Forte.

Hey, Peter, I'm from Australia, but have commented on a few of your video. Great work, by the way. A regular contributor to one of the Kia Forte discussion forums mentioned that the "emergency steering" alert came up on his dash. Eg: "Anyone had "emergency steering" kick in? I didn't even know the car had this feature, but when I had to veer right around some parked cars it made that beeping noise (like the AEB) and flashed up "emergency steering" and pulled the car back to the left, presumably because it had sensed oncoming traffic (which I would have been well clear of anyway). It has nothing to do with lane keep assist as I turn that off every time I start the car." This sounds like a load of horse manure to me, as I've read the manual, and have never heard of this. Can you help? To add to this, why the heck would anyone turn OFF a safety feature as helpful as LKA? Does not make sense.

I haven't heard of an emergency steering feature here in Canada. I do hear of people turning Lane Keep Assist off. Not everyone likes the feature. I usually encourage people to give the feature a chance as it can take some getting used to, but most people that I talk to adjust to it and end up liking it quite a bit. But again, I haven't heard of an emergency steering warning or feature. Hope that helps!

I just bought a 2018 Kia Forte LX+ I should of waited a couple more months for the 2019 much sharper and handsome vehicle but don't get me wrong the 2018 is a great car but this styling is a much nicer look.

get a 2015 and up model and skip the 2014 model. 2014 model did not have a good crash rating but they fixed it for 2015 :)

yes, and it was only a specific one i think it was the small over lap one it received rather a 'poor' rating. but they strengthened it up and made it a marginal rating for 2015. even with the poor rating it was still considered an iihs top safety pick so i mean youll still be fine. but youll be better with a more recent model.

I have the Kia Forte, it must be a base model because it doesn’t have all these features, it has apple car play and back up camera but that’s pretty much it, not much to it. Though I must say it looks nice inside/out. Wished the forte I have had the hid/led lights and some other features I like such as heated mirrors and a good sound system.

Does it have heated side mirrors? Are they foldable? What about rear heated seats?

It does have heated side mirrors, they turn on with the rear window defroster. The mirrors fold manually. The rear seats are heated on the top trim level. In Canada, every one of these cars comes standard with a heated steering wheel, and heated front seats.

I have noticed that the Kia Forte has the same amount of horsepower as the Hyundai Elantra which is 147. So I'm guessing that these two cars are very similar.

There are similarities, and they do share a basic architecture, however these cars aren't the same as 1980's GM vehicles where the vehicles are the same other than the badge. In the case of the Forte, the structure has more welds and structural enhancements, the cars are tuned quite differently. The Forte also has a different transmission. I'm not sure if they're the same engine. The Forte's engine is the same as the Kia Soul, although it runs on an Atkinson cycle. The transmission allows the car to have less horsepower than the previous model, but still be a quicker car. Lots of innovation. If you're interested in either the Elantra or Forte, you should drive them both and see the differences for yourself.

If you mean, how do you flash the high beams, you can do that using the signal stalk by pushing or pulling the lever.

Forte EX 2019. It doesnt chime when i push the lock Botton. Thats ok? Or it have to chime.

You may need to check with your dealer. This sounds like a setting, but it could be an issue.

@@BrantfordKia well, it's a new feature. Some Brands are changing this feature. No sound or chime when you lock doors. It just light and fold the mirrors.

How does the 17 inch rims do on potholes?

They assist in handling so that you can steer around them better? In reality 17 inch rims and lower profile tires are common in this class. These cars have well tuned suspension to deal with rough roads, and still provide good handling. Potholes can cause damage, but it's not something I'm overly cautious about when I drive this car.

I loved my 2015 mazda 3 GS but i replaced it with Forte today because of several reasons : number one is space , heated seats, android auto, wireless charger and the list goes on......

I think there's still a place for the Optima. The mid size sedan is shrinking, but as features and tech are added to the Optima, it will still have a place in our lineup. Dealers will adjust inventories accordingly, but we're about to do a 2019 Optima video and it has Lane Keeping Assist, Forward Collision avoidance, an 8 inch screen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. All in the very lowest trim level. So it will definitely still have a place in the lineup.

No CD Player, no Cassette Player, No 8 Track Player... and it's not just Kia, everyone in the class is moving away from CD Players. Bluetooth streaming, music devices that plug into USB ports, or even CD's copied to a USB thumb drive is the way to go now.

I do not understand why any brand thinks the CVT gets better mileage just is wrong. I have 2017 Kia forte 5 - 6 speed auto. It gets 38 - 40 mpg average. I can drive it hard still the same. My g/f has the exact car, same results. These 2019 Forte's do NOT get the MPG I am getting daily. I drive city, country daily as my commuter car. I will say the 2019 is a nice sharp car though but the manufactures shoving these CVTs down your throat are full of it.

The CVT in this car is VERY nice to drive. We're finding that the new Forte's are outperforming the previous generation Forte's in every fuel economy loop that we do. The IVT on this car, along with the engine running the Atkinson cycle, allows this car to achieve great real world fuel economy.

@@mikeyspeeds1056 One of my colleagues did a fuel economy comparison over weeks worth of driving the same roads. We have some video, we'll try to put it together. I can tell you that in my experience, it's absolutely better.

@@BrantfordKia Im not saying the car drives poorly i bet its nice. Being an owner of many Kia's i know all there is about the older ones and they do not lack good MPGs. My dash says 38mpg right this moment.

I'll do my best. KZfaq does allow you to change the speed of the video by clicking the gear icon, then choosing speed, then choosing faster or slower. In the meantime, that could help.
