2019 RAM 1500 Tradesman Tailgate Assist Install

I don't see the point in having a key fob button to open my tailgate, but having the lowering of the tailgate slowed is a nice feature. This air cylinder is a Mopar part, and the 2019 RAM Tradesman (new body style) has the connections available for a quick and easy install.

So ordered this. I have a Ram 3500 model year 2022. I pulled the left taillight and it didn’t have the studs. I was like crap!! Pulled the right as super easy and mine had the studs on the right side!!!! Bonus done even bother removing the tailgate cable. The light doesn’t need it removed. Mine had 2 screws (tork) and the boom easy money. Hope that helps others.

Good pick up to close to tail gate to get the piston in. I have a 2017 Ram 1500 Outdoorsman I doubt that mine has those 2 ball studs behind the tail light..

Man. I just installed deezee on my ‘16 and you have me wondering if I just do some research and find out I can do a hidden one. Would be nice. The deezee one is great I just worry about the paint and the cable rubbing

Thanks for this video. I was "danger close" to ordering the deezee when I cam across your video. This MOPAR option looks a helluva lot better than the exposed deezee option. It doesn't appear to be damped as much though.

True, not dampened as much, but enough. The ball studs are only behind the driver's side taillight.

@@jolivier223 Hi there thanks for posting this. Just a correction to what you said about Dee Zee. The Dee Zee is installed the same way i.e. hidden in the tail light area and not exposed (2019 new 1500). In addition, it looks like it dampens the same amount of what you had in the video. That being said, your video helped me on the install on the Dee Zee. I think I would've spent another half an hour trying to compress that dampener to get that bottom part on if it wasn't for this video.

@@LOL9622 I think at the time I made this video, I had only seen the external Dee Zee. Good to know they have an internal one now, good deal. Glad I could help. If you needed one of these, I'm assuming you have a tradesman. If you do and you do any other modifications please share.

Great Video. I have 2020 bighorn . It was not factory installed. I was all ready like the video. I do not know why it was not put on at the factory it would added 10 seconds at the plant when they built the truck they would have charged 60-80 bucks more I bet. I got the dealership give it to me at so called cost $37 bucks since I spent ton on the truck and extras with them. I am not a pro but it took me less than 5 minutes from start to finish to put it on.. It works good. Icame from a Chevy soft gate it was better but it had its share of problems.

Great video but to make the install of the shock easier close the tailgate the ballpoint will go down and should go in effortless 👍

I have a 2019 ram 2500 big horn off-road group and the ball studs are in the passenger side. But is not the same part. It will be a different part and it’s not out yet.

Anthony Vaninetti does not work it’s a different part number. I can’t find the right one.

I try to install this stuff in the passenger side and it not works, when the bolt rotate to the take-out area, the door jammed. So your 2500 tailgate will be take down from driver side?

George C it’s not the same part. It’s a totally different part but it’s not out yet. Called the dealership and they don’t show anything for the truck.

On my 2019 Ram 2500 tradesman it's on the passenger side and the ball nut is only on the tailgate joint. Nothing above for the top to connect to. Just FYI

As light as the tailgate already is I don't think you could put a much stronger dapner on it, I just did mine tonight with the OEM part... I don't think I'd want it any slower.. I also made the mistake of putting the top on first...What a pain!

It should, but the easiest way to tell is to just pop your taillight out and see if you have ball studs there.

As you said. They are available for the 2020 new body style. Not on the 2020 classic old body style. I had to go with the dee zee and put it on the outside. You just never know what they did on any given day. I have a 2020 Warlock and you might have gotten a small thing like the antenna might be chrome or it might be black. What ever the line had in spare parts that day. Do like my truck though! But check behind the taillight before you order.
