@@jldude84 Hear is a quote. It showed it's been updated with towing MPG included and the ram is still 1mpg over epa These numbers are worth picking apart for a moment. The same drivers that have been driving our 2015 Ford F-150 4x4 2.7-liter EcoBoost crew cab also drove this truck, and they used both of them in much the same way. The F-150 currently lags behind its EPA rating by three full mpg, but the Ram matched its EPA combined rating after a full 50,000 miles even while towing something during almost 20 percent of those miles. Ignore the towing miles and the Ram beat its EPA rating by one mpg. That almost never happens. Color me impressed. Dan Edmunds, Director of Vehicle Testing @ 50,084 miles

As a biased Pentastar owner, I don't think the Pentastar gets the attention it should. As you said, if you're not doing a lot of very heavy towing the V6 is a very good option, is less expensive and gets good gas mileage. I tow a 3800lb travel trailer regularly and I'm very impressed with how well the Pentastar has handled every situation we've been in. At 60mph towing we get 11-12mpg. If we could get 13-14mpg with the E-torque that would be great. Wouldn't trade my 2016 just for the E-torque at this time though.

The problem with the Pentastar is. It tows as much as a 2.7 Ecoboost in the Ford. The 2.7 Ecoboost is just as good on Fuel. And when you wanna go quick the 2.7 will spank the 5.7 Hemi. I don't see why to get the Pentastar. That's just my opinion. I respect yours.

Now, we need to have some testing of these lower trim V6 trucks in Colorado including a Baby Ike.... Wait, Sandstone Hill on I64 in southern West Virginia is the "baby Ike" but you know what I mean by light trailers with base V6 truck racing up to the Eisenhower Tunnel on I70. Anxiously waiting to see you put these new Ram's through the Ike Gauntlet towing test. I know the acceleration numbers will be lower than advertised since you are at high elevation in Colorado but still interested in seeing what they can do. I know when I moved from Ohio to Utah, my 2013 Hemi express went from running 14.6@96mph to 15.7@93mph so the elevation took a little more than a second off the 1/4 mile. I love TFL Truck reviews, since you show fueling up the trucks, and how much they use on the test, and real world towing tests. Keep up the good work.

An overboosted v6 from ford is going to grind itself up in about 150,000 miles. The E-torq approach will likely outlast the engine itself, and the whole package will like survive 300k+ miles if properly maintained. I’ll take the Ram everyday; even though it kinda looks like a Tundra.

Why are you so certain of this 300k+ figure? Just curious.
@patamaran
@patamaran 3 жыл бұрын
@@jamesnorris5778 DC motors are very overbuilt because of some of the Electrical characteristics inherent in DC motors, so that motor isn't ever going to be any issue. The potential issue comes with the 48v battery pack, but over the past 10 years, hybrids have been perfecting battery technology, and have gotten pretty reliable. the likelihood of a problem occurring and costing you anything is low, especially since your battery pack and e-torque are covered as part of the powertrain warranty.

@Allegronaut 5 жыл бұрын
I love your videos Andre and TFL, but you fell a little short on the explanation of exactly what all the functions of the eTorque system encompass. I found out from a competitor's video that the eTorque first off replaces the regular alternator, and charges both the 12V system and the 48V system batteries. It's also responsible for starting the engine during regular driving cycles for start and stop operation. Kudos to FCA, it saves wear on the regular starter which is still used for better cold start operation. It also gives its full 130 lbft. of torque on the V-8 instantaneously just like an electric motor adding to the zero torque of the engine from a dead stop. It also decouples its alternator mode from the engine during high demand driving to deliver all the engine power to moving the truck. I'm sure Andre mentioned this one, but it also assists with torque during low power demands to keep the engine in 4 cylinder mode longer for better fuel economy. Knowing all that this system does makes it much more impressive than at first glance.

No one realizes it's less of a hybrid than thought. The main thing ram is targeting since 2013 to improve fuel economy is parasitic losses, that's the key to understanding the eTorque. You have to have everything that runs off of the serpentine belt, but if you power them with the eTorque, the engine is "more free". They already took the power steering off of the serpentine belt drive with the last truck, so this is the next step. What you can expect or have already seen from ram is weight loss, reducing parasitic loss off of the serpentine belt drive, reducing parasitic loss through the powertrain such as thermal management, etc. If ram gets any new powertrain it will be around this trucks refresh in 2021 as a 2022 model. For now ram is milking the cow, and they are doing a damn good job.

I wish that the V6 with etorque was available here in Mexico. I am waiting delivery of a Bighorn, and here in Mexico we don't get any options to choose from, other than the trim level. So the Bighorn version in Mexico is equivalent to an American Bighorn Crew Cab 4x4 with the HEMI etorque, with the level 2 equipment package, offroad package, and night package. That is just how they offer them here. I love everything about it, except the big V8. My current van uses the same Pentastar V6 that is offered on the RAM, and I rarely feel that I need more power. My van is also a bit heavier than my new RAM, so I expect a V6 RAM with etorque to feel pretty good and also offer up some fuel savings. I'm still very happy that I'll get to drive around in a truck with a big V8 before they disappear.

Other than that, I'm sure you'd be shutting off the start-stop system while doing it, so I don't think the changes in off roading from a non eTorque Ram are going to be earth shattering.

I love the gorgeous body colored front end on that red Laramie. If FIAT were to put it on the RAMbler Rebel I wouldn't be able to resist it! Especially since the 12"screen is no available on it. Probably a good thing as I wouldn't have to get into a shouting match with my wife over buying it.

Stratospheric pricing on the new trucks aside, I have one question: I'm not clear on this, so I thought I would ask... Is it possible to buy a new cab-and-a-half or crew cab at the half-ton level from Dodge/RAM, Ford or Chevy with an 8-foot bed? If not, is it available aftermarket? If not, why not? Outstanding visuals on this video. Great job.

Bighorn owners. If you have a 115v outlet cap in the rear of the center console instead of the actual outlet all you have to do is get a 115v outlet from the dealer or ebay, pop the cap off and plug it into the wire harness. The plug is still there on the harness.

In what way?.. In term of fuel economy, interior features, etc., Toyota seems to be lagging behind; especially the infotainment system. A lot of Toyota owners here in Dubai keep swapping it out for those Chinese Tesla style units. How bad does the stock system have to be for a Chinese unit to be better?... Even the one in my brother's 2014 full option Camry hasn't worked properly since the day he bought it and they have not replaced it despite numerous complaints. The Tundra has a more roomier cab and more comfortable back seat. But that is all as far as I am concerned. The rear window that completely goes down is an amazing feature but impractical if I install a headache rack or Rhino Sport bar. Some will talk about reliability, but I don't believe that to be the case. In the 4 years that I have been having my RAM, I've had to help out two Tundra owners with electrical issues stranded on the side of the road. So I would solely say that a vehicle is only as good as the owner who maintains it, with the exception of Ford.. That EcoBoost has some issues.
@integrags98
@integrags98 5 жыл бұрын
surprise that you had to help Tundra. all the parts in the tundra is bigger. the JAPANESE company Toyota is the most reliability vehicle in the market. the ford trucks is the most sold truck in the world. as fuel economy well i can do 13.2 l per 100 km in canada for the tundra and Tundra has 6 speed trany and hino rear diff 4:30. lift up the tundra vs ram ford chevy and you will see. the ram is a beautiful truck for shur but as resell value and reliability TOYOTA all the WAY. the looks of all brand well that i can't say what trucks is better looking. everyone is different.

I'm a huge fan of the Tundra. But I bought a Ram because all the way in terms of modern features, I found it to be the better truck for my needs; especially in terms of interior comfort, quality and fuel economy. This is all subjective though. Plus the added advantage over the Tundra is, here in Dubai, the local Toyota dealer does not support the Tundra. It is a popular truck here, but only because the locals love their land cruisers and like the Toyota reliability branding. Those trucks are all imported separately. The Ram is supported by the local dealer here which makes spares easier to come by. GM has the biggest presence here in the American full-size truck segment. It is more popular than the Tundra with the Ford Raptor taking the second place. I still maintain my view that any truck which is maintained the way that it is supposed to, will be extremely reliable; regardless of the brand.

We shall see the long term reliability of it, they have been known to be super weak in their drive terrain setup, also the Etorque is a short term fuel increase gimmick i think, this will not hold up in the long term i think, it might be an introduction into a more advanced hybrid system down the line but it hasn't been proven in any other of their applications.

Ram needs a new V8. The Hemi is just getting a little long in the tooth. Would like to see FCA develop an all new DOHC V8 engine for use in RAM trucks, Jeep Grand Cherokee and Wagoneer, and whatever future Challenger or Charger models are released. If they dropped the Hemi and went with a modern 4 valve engine, it would get better fuel economy and likely produce higher power and torque. Not to mention they could downsize the capacity for less weight. Combined with the etorque system it would likely be the most fuel efficient V8 in the class. They should do that or hurry up with their own turbocharged 6 cylinder engines for use in the aforementioned vehicles. I'd much prefer an inline-6 to a V6.

The 3.0 v6 is a touched up CRd motor from the late 00s. This was back when Daimler and chrysler were still together. The main marketing lingo is that this 3.0 is all new. However a lot of the basic elements remain. That said, I own an ecodiesel and cannot say good enough things about the motor. The rest of the truck is trash.
