Ford Performance shared a nostalgic clip from the 2019 Shelby GT350 development cycle. Ride along as Ford Performance vehicle dynamics engineer Steve Thompson wheels a stock GT350 to a 2:00.57 lap on Virginia International Raceway’s 3.27-mile Full Course.

I don't think that most people watching this will realize how bat shit insane a 2:00 flat at VIR in a stock gt350 is. I've never, ever seen anyone else do this in a stock gt350. Even people with a laundry list of mods to their gt350 are getting ~2:04s at best. The speed up the esses. Not braking till the 1.5 marker on the back straight with the stock pads. And if you look closely at the data acquisition it looks like a 1:59 optimal lap time. Unreal.

Lol yup, absolutely wild. 2.04 would be a screaming time for stock car + 200 TW tires.

Very nice... now can we see the same driver in a 2020 GT350R at VIR? ;) Revised steering geometry brought over from the 2020 GT500...

They said it was stock save for the safety additions. The factory tires are Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2: 295/35 (front) and 305/35 (rear).

@@SpeedMetalMedia After reading Billy Johnson's article I believe these tires are made for 2019 GT350 Cup2 tires actually different from the bespoke 350R Cup2 tires.
