2019 Suzuki Jimny on and off-road review

I’m not going to hide the fact I am a Suzuki enthusiast. I learnt to drive in an ‘84 model Sierra I bought for $1200, and took that thing everywhere including the Vic High Country on my P-plates at 80km/h the whole way. I’ve had a modified LWB Vitara wagon, two LWB Sierras, and a handful of SWB Sierras in various states of modification; in fact, I still have one in my backyard. It has been lifted, regeared and modified cheaply and easily using mostly second-hand parts. Which is what Zooks are supposed to be - cheap and easy. The 2019 Suzuki Jimny sadly isn’t cheap these days, with quotes coming in at $30,000 or more depending on where you live and the options boxes you tick. With that said, you are getting more inclusions than we have ever seen in a Suzuki 4X4. Cheap and classy … who would have thought?

at 8:00 you just needed to give it a little bit more gas for the traction control to kick in. But, you didn't even need that, a little big of momentum would be enough. You didn't find the jimny's limits, you found yours as a driver. 8:06, it was going and you lifted the pedal...

As a single male, no kids, nothing really holding me down. I'm so in-love with this car. I want it as my daily! Will hopefully purchase one in the next year or two. Great review!

8:02 The traction couldn't do its job here because it needs a fair amount of wheel spin before it kicks in. The rear left wheel wasn't spinning at all, so I don't think it was due to the tires. You could probably have made it up there by stepping and staying on the gas just a little more.

@@richardsnellin7338 exactly right. I have this jimny, and believe me, this obstacle would be a piece of piss to get up in the jim. He didnt give it enough power, and he didnt leave the power on long enough. Takes about 1-2 seconds of continious drive.. for the traction to kick in. Reached its limitations my arse hole! Sick of inexperienced reviewers mucking up these reviews. They should live with the car they test for at least a week, minimum.

You never go wrong with Australian 4ed reviews. I wish you had the auto in that trail. The torque converter multiplies the torque a little bit more and the ability to use the brakes and accelerator at the same time is a fantastic combo for the traction control. Cheers from South America

My Dear friend, do think the vehicle would have ascended if it was a manual transmission and the traction control allowed to do its work? By the way, were other vehicles able to ascend that point?

Couldn't understand when he said it could not be flat towed behind a motorhome as there was no neutral. Have seen quite a few being towed. Mind you it has to be manual like most cars. Spoke to Susuki they said no problem towing the manual version, in neutral and 2 wd. Did feel he was not realy trying.

You need to leave the wheels spinning for the traction control system to work just as it was moving forward you kept lifting of the accelerator lol

The Jimny back seat is designed to be accessed from the front passenger seat.

I know is a lot to ask but I would love to see an auto in that track. The torque converter plus 1st low work wonders with the TC. You can modulate the power while braking and managing that slip to emulate a locked diff much better than on the manual. I have driven both and in the manual the lack of low end torque makes the power delivery jolty.

I want one.. 😓 but in the states we don't get one. Wish they'd do a diesel though. Especially.since diesels are more than adequate offroad..

Anything has limitations!, I'm downsizing from a Toyota Hi-lux Surf, that I've had for 10 years, to a Jimny. I think the Jimny is going to be better off road than the surf specially in tight spots, I'll find out for sure in December when it arrives

Mhh on rocks I would not. If they were MTs with lots of sidewall maybe. I puncture the sidewall of my Dunlops (the tire my jimny came with).

in 2019 a car manufacture is still using drum brakes in the rear, I would not buy one just because of that.

What a peculiar statement to make. This vehicle is very much low performance on the road. Your comfortable cruising speed is 60mph, cornering requires a bit more forward planning than most. The tyres are a compromise between on and off road use. The brakes are perfectly adequate. My views are based on six months ownership and 3000 miles or so driving, not just reading the spec sheet.

Given rear brakes do about 10% of the overall braking...who. cares. It gives an actually useable handbrake.
