“Blah blah my parents went to UCLA...did I mention my parents graduated from UCLA too? Also, I didn’t have to work or struggle a single day in my life because my parents also went to UCLA.” -Student speaker Yes, very relatable, sis.

I am a UCLA dropout. I dropped out after 1 year there, after I failed my genetics course. I tried to retake it in the summer but I could not enroll in the course. I was completely lost there, a lonely Hispanic boy. I simply wanted to study animals, to become an ecologist. However, all I can remember was walking from office to office, filling out papers and papers without reading the fine prints. All I wanted was to learn; I was fascinated by my major (Ecology, Behavior, and Evolution), but everything was passing by fast. I could not explore. I worried about the exams most of the time. My hand would shake in laboratories. All I wanted was to study animals. I remember writing a research paper on wolf behavior and how to study their howls; in my opinion it was really good; I really poured my imagination and interest to this pursuit. I remember venturing in the library and finding Farley Mowat's book Never Cry Wolf, still my favorite movie of all time as well. Congrats to all of ye for graduating; I wish I had a smooth experience full of exploration and imagination; I wish I did not have to worry about paying my tuition and having nervous breakdowns for passing my courses based on midterms and final exams. All I wanted was to study animals, God's beautiful creation before making us. 🌿

@Rolando Chavarria . . . I hope you're doing well. I like the way you elucidated the problems you experienced at UCLA. CSU is less competitive, not as quick-paced; you can still do what you desire by transferring there. Don't give up on your education; you have a unique desire and skill set. All the best!
