I prefer these plugs. I have had oil change shops strip my oil pan by over-tightening a traditional drain bolt. This type can't be overtightened and will never strip. Order the proper tool for a few $$ and it will be super simple.

I stopped doing german work a long time a go for this very reason. my sister has the same veh and vw says to replace this plastic drain plug at every oil change . a flat head screwdriver will work but I just happen to have the tool that they make for it because they are on other model vehs ford is using them on there f150 now when the tool first came out is cost 40 bucks on the snap on truck you can buy the same one on line at amazon for maybe like 20 I did a lot of vw work when i was at a german shop but those days are over
