Started out just fixing a small annoyance, but ended up switching my S10's dash to LED back lighting. I only decided to make a video to highlight a curious method the factory used in their bulbs.

I just ordered the blue LED BULBS with the sockets from Amazon. Seems easier than going through what you went through with socket and lead issues

You can buy bulb holders for the GM clusters that will hold a standard 194 bulb. Have to be careful though, GM used an odd ball clocking for the tabs on the OEM holders. So you have to make sure they are compatible for the GM clusters, most are not.

Yeah, Partsam on Amazon has them.

ABS light was on in my '97 Blazer and I just replaced the ABS sensors yesterday and light is off. Go figure. Nice dash lights too. I'm planning on putting LEDs in the dash too. Probably just white >:0

I put some UV LEDs in my 99. Made the gauge pointers look like light sabers.

Just an update , contacted NVU , New Vintage USA, and they have new gauge clusters that replace the original 1994-1997 perfectly. I've decided to deal with them instead of Dakota Digital due to the fact that I can get my new gauge cluster within a week. Check out their website... alot cheaper than Dakota Digital as well.

Thank! I’m sure I’ll be needing more parts; just bought a “new used” cluster for ‘97 S10, 79K on it, for $120 (fee shipping), from Golden Gates Auto Parts..waiting for it to arrive at mechanic’s shop; Thought about putting green LEDs in for the main bulbs…not sure what size those are

I am guessing my 91 is very similar to this. I don't like covering warning lights. I know you can drive without abs.
@rockymtnredneck48884 жыл бұрын
Yeah, with a Ford 9inch rear axle there is no way my ABS is ever coming back, so I wanted that useless light off. Simply removing it was not the answer. I learned to drive without ABS so I'm okay with pumping the brakes on snowy roads.

did anyone say you could put a resistor inplace of the bulb for abs? i think you can.
@rockymtnredneck48883 жыл бұрын
You would just need to provide a resistor that matches the bulb’s resistance, so yeah, possible. I’m not that much of a radio-shacker.

I contacted Dakota Digital about doing a cluster update on my 1995. My gauge face is different than yours in that my speedometer reads 100 mph and my tach goes to 7000 rpm . I would have to send them my entire cluster , 6 month turnaround and about $1,600.00. But I would have Digital gauges and no more Aircore stepper motors to deal with.

Did you change your pointer needles too ? Yours look White, my 1995 has Orange needles, just wondering how the blue would look with Orange needles.
@rockymtnredneck48883 жыл бұрын
Didn’t change the needles, no. This is all stock, just swapped bulbs.

Tried this on a 96 s10 can't get the bulbs out there's no solder to melt either to remove them

Twist to the left and lift them out, then just pull the bulb out of the base. Them are twist base sockets

On my 94, the dimmer switch for dash lights will only come on if i tweak it in the right spot, do i need a new dimmer switch or new dash lights?
@rockymtnredneck48882 жыл бұрын
If you have LEDs in the dash, only specific ones will play well with a dimmer. If not, check the grounds first, then try a dimmer switch replacement.

Where'd you get the cluster bro? I got a 94 S10 blazer and my gauges don't work and I can't find the replacement parts.
@rockymtnredneck48885 күн бұрын
@@F_Alteradoz14 cluster is the original. If I were looking for one, I’d start with LMC Truck, then maybe eBay. Otherwise, go look at newvintageusallc.mybigcommerce.com/GMtruck/ They have cool stuff.

How many of each bulb would I need?
@rockymtnredneck48889 ай бұрын
I don't remember. Knowing what I know now, I wouldn't do this lil mod. I have reverted all mine back to stock incandescent. The LEDs fail way sooner than you would think.
@PancakePigeon2 жыл бұрын
Maybe try putting a small resistor in abs socket to duplicate a bulb being in there. You'd still close the circuit and not have to deal with a light.
@rockymtnredneck48882 жыл бұрын
That’s exactly what I’ve thought of doing. Just haven’t researched enough to see what size would replicate a bulb.

Odd. I've only ever done it on my 94 S10 and 90s Full Sizes.
