The first-ever IBU World Championships single mixed relay medalists: Norway's Marte Olsbu-Roeiseland and Johannes Thingnes Boe, Italy's Dorothea Wierer and Lukas Hofer, and Sweden's Hanna Oeberg and Sebastian Samuelsson, talk to the press after the historic competition in Ostersund.

Big congrats to all of them. But I wished some medals for Austria. Theresa and Simon are really good in single mixed relay, but today it was hard won some medals. Now I'm ready for men's and women's relays on Saturday. Good luck to everybody!😊😊

Hofer did really good, trying is best not to lose too much time on skii..against the new male biathlon god A.K.A T.Bo. Doro still making some miss with the gun but, overall, amazing performance. GG to her. Oeberg really need some time off to recover some energy for the next races >_< GG to her and Samuelsson too. Great podium. Congratz to every single one of them :)

Dorothy Vierra's shooting is the best on the tour, female or male. Her hit rate is up there with the best but the speed and confidence she shoots with is second to none. Especially for the relay where they get spare rounds it's a huge bonus for Italy gaining them so much time that the rest have to try to make on the tracks. Hofer is a bit hit and miss with his performances usually but he seems to have such faith in Doro that it gives him confidence and he usually performs better in this event. They make a great team. Then seeing Sweden get a medal at home is brilliant, always good for the atmosphere and Championships when the home nation does well also dealing with that extra pressure means they deserve their medals. As for Norway, with a pair like that they've no excuse for not at least medaling which adds pressure but still the ski speed they've both got is such a strength, their shooting isn't the best but its easily good enough with their skiing and they're both used to winning now which brings belief and confidence. Perfect podium for me.

@@itarry4 Nothing to say about your analysis about Sweden and Norway pair in this relay but, right now, the best markwoman in the circuit is Lisa Vittozzi, not Dorothea. Doro is the quickest, but her % lately is very up and down (still very VERY high, don't get me wrong). Lisa is, by far right now, the most efficient, confident and consistent athlete on the entire circuit on sr. She never win 'cause her lackness in speed and power on tracks, but she's leading the world cup for a reason :) Doro it's still there, but she need to step up her SR ability a little bit. Hofer is a russian roulette kind of athlete LOL. He got fifth in the individual yesterday plus the silver today. Don't think he can do anything spectacular in the mass start but..eh..cross finger. Our movement need some good performance from the man, too :D

@@AlexStorm3 I agree totally on current form but I'm not going on form I'm talking about overall, consistency and proven record. If Vittozzi keeps it going next season then I might review my opinion but not yet. She's hit a gold patch where everything is clicking but it's telling that Italy go with Doro. They do that because she's got the proven big competition record and has been the best or at least top 3 shooter for a few years.

Brilliant podium, couldn't have designed a better one if I'd tried. Always have supported Norway as a Brit in Biathlon as we've currently got no one from Britain for me to back. Italy deserve a medal and have put a really strong pair together for this event, Doro's shooting is second to none especially in relay with the spare shots. The speed and accuracy she displays is amazing, stays so calm and focused and takes so much time off the others it's a real bonus for her team. Then obviously seeing Sweden on the podium at home is great, brings such an fantastic atmosphere to the Championships and its always good to see the home athletes get medals as it must mean so much to them, also the fact they have to deal with that extra pressure makes their performance so much more impressive. Love this sport because its so unpredictable, even when you've someone as strong as Bo its still not a given that he's going to win which is different to most other sports where if there's an athlete who is so much stronger than the rest like Bo is exists then the result is basically decided before they start. I mean I love Cross-country Skiing as well and the women's endurance races are like that with Johaug, if she starts the race then everyone knows who's taking the win and it's only the other results that need deciding, the mens sprint is similar with Klæbo. In Biathlon though the shooting brings that suspense and unknown element even on calm days with no wind but on a windy day it really opens it up which is why it's by far my favourite sport to watch. Such a shame the season is so short, someone needs to invent a way to do it in the Summer that really simulates what it's like on the snow roller skiing just doesn't cut it. Hopefully technology will find a way as it has in so many other cases.

Great comment! I agree with everything you said - especially the part about biathlon being the most entertaining sport to watch, for many reasons, not only the constant suspense and unpredictability, but also the gracious and good-hearted spirits of the athletes. Concerning XC skiing, I expect and hope Johaug soon will get some (/more) serious matching from the Swedish prodigy. The Norwegian experts seem to think that Karlsson has virtually the same endurance capacity as Johaug, and that Johaug's serious advantage is that she has better technique in easier terrain. All over, I'm pretty sure the young athletes on the Swedish and Russian teams will prove even stronger in the world cup next season and in Oberstdorf, down the road.

@@kn58657 oh totally, the young Swedish girls are very promising and I also have great hopes they'll come to challenge. As good as the young Russians are I don't see any of them being a serious challenge yet or for a good while. Johaugs biggest advantage is also her VO² max apparently its comparable to some of the top males and her technique combined with that means gives her massive time on steep hills and the longer the distance the bigger the advantage but both the young Swedish girls seem to be very close. Especially I think in mass starts where if they can just stay in her slip stream then they'll easily out sprint her as that Johaugs one big flaw, she can't sprint. You can virtually guarantee that as soon as Johaug can't win that Norway will find a new young star, they turn them out like a machine. Such a shame that we didn't get to see Johaug and Bjoergen go at it at the last Olympics, now that would have been brutal.
