Does a 3/4 ton off-road truck appeal to you? Are you willing to give up big max tow and payload numbers for off-road performance? Please let us know in the comments!

4WD Magazine no not really. My 122" wheelbase "shorty" F-150 FX-4 with the 5.0L and 3.73's has a better break over angle, a tighter turning circle, a better power to weight ratio, better fuel economy, better payload capacity, and similar towing capability. Mine also came with dual lockers, 34" tires, is prewired for a winch and has a steel (winch capable) bumper for about $20,000 less. The shorty is the unsung hero of the off road truck world and nobody does videos on them.

Jay Mackay your truck does not have front lockers unless installed aftermarket. Your truck also does not have better break over angles or wheel articulation Ect.. you are here watching this video because you want to buy a power wagon but unfortunately do not have the funds..

@@liberalsareinbred6383 it does have a front Torsen locker from the Raptor, installed by the dealer at the time of purchase, so it has full Ford warranty and unlike the PW it works in 4 HI. My rear locker also works in 2WD. As for breakover I have 14.5" of clearance to the frame and 122" wheelbase. You do the math. Only knowledgeable people even know they are available. Sorry but I like to see how they are marketing the PW. I would never own one. The Tremor will eat it.

@@fabulousoffroaddesigns5080 Any vehicle can be modified, at the dealer or elsewhere. Thats a different class of vehicle limited only by your money. Also your IFS will limit articulation which is a big reason even the Ram Rebel doesn't keep up. So again, the power wagon is the best factory built off road truck.

bought min new in 2019, fully loaded, first year of the 8 speed in them. traded my raptor in for it and never looked back, load all our dirt bikes in and end up having more fun in the truck getting through the terrain then riding the bikes lol sister has a Rubicon thats been in jeep magazine at Moab, she had me go with her on a snow run in the mountains where we live, i ended up pulling her and a ram rebel out linked to each other when they buried themselves, i know there are more compact options but as a vehicle that serves such a wide array of duties i couldn't be happier

Upgraded my 2012 1500 BH (bought it New and loved) back in Aug 2021 to a used 2020 PW white 10k miles, Lv 2 equipped still has floor shifter and bench seat which was HUGE for ME. I found the truck I have been searching for. I have wanted a 4x4 that I can tow an off road Black Serves HQ19 which is to heavy for a 1/2 ton but still under max tow capacity of a deavy duty 3/4 ton truck. It became to expensive converting the 3/5 ton 4×4 with what I just saw in this power wagon. So I know where to go from here. Thanks for this video on the 2020 Ram 3/4 ton Power Wagon, it seems to allready fit what I am looking for. Plus, it has allways been my favorite truck I am Stocked!!!!

It's great to see some off-roading in my old home of British Columbia. I recently bought a lightly used 2022 PW with only 16,000 miles on it and a ton of aftermarket goodies but there aren't a lot of places in Texas to really test it's capabilities so wife and I will be heading to Colorado soon to drive the Alpine Loop out of Lake City. I figure it's a nice, easy first off road test for the truck and I. Not as hairy as some of the places I off-roaded in B.C. but I'm going to build up my confidence in the truck's capabilities gradually. By-the-way, if you need some ideas for places to go in B.C. let me know. The Jade mine road out of Lytton is a good drive and it's fun to take the backroads through Seton Portage. Middlepass Creek road up over the Rockies from the Flathead Valley to Pincher Creek, Alberta is awesome!

Thanks for the review. I wonder if a person could put HD shocks and 10ply tires on the Power wagon to help with the towing capacity and payload. Also, I like that it has a gas engine, but too bad it doesn't have the 4.56 gears! Anyway, I've the Power Wagon, it's a unique truck much like the Nissan Titan XD. Rock crawling and overlanding is leaps and bounds better with a gas engine. Low rpm and low end throttle response is essential. I know diesels make gobs of low end torque, but when you need to crawl at 1/4 or 1/2 mile an hour, gas>diesel forever!!
@SimplyMagic123

id argue that a diesel has more steady and reliable low end power. Since torque is your best friend crawling. Gas engines are way more forgiving at extreme angles tho

Not sure why everyone wants the diesel. That added weight will decrease the towing because the payload will be way less. On top of not really better fuel economy or range as the tank doesn't change. Worse off-road capabilities and more maintenance and most importantly $10,000 option. It would be cool but it would ruin the point of the Power Wagon.

@@4WDMagazine Agreed. It defeats the purpose. A better solution would be to get Ram to increase the fuel tank capacity to over 40. Like Ford has with the 48 gallon tank I think people want diesel for the satisfaction of knowing they can tow anything. The 6.4 hemi with the new 8 speed is definitely no slouch. @@4WDMagazine Honestly my dream truck is a Power Wagon with a Cummins in it. Generally i like Rams more than Ford but Ford seems to be the only one willing to take a risk on new markets. And yeah, i'd definitely be getting Cummins equipped Power wagon lol.

Let's remember this truck is designed for trails and rock crawling as in Moab...it never claimed to be a tow rig, you add that cummins and say bye bye to your flexing. If you need towing just buy a 2500 or 3500 with the cummins add a level kit some 35's an aftermarket bumper to mount winch to and you got the truck your looking for. Sounds like your not wanting to do any real off roading maybe just some backroads and the occasional mud pit. I dont see wranglers nor ford Raptors towing much if at all but hey it seems the majority know what both vehicles where built to do and the power wagon is no different....its aimed towards a specific individual.

I don’t understand why none of these review magazines ever point out the the transfer case or the fact that you can’t get a full console. The t-case does NOT have a diff. So it has no awd mode. In bad weather like snow or hard rain the t-case in the standard 1500, 2500 is better in those conditions. Then there’s the manual t-case shift, which does NOT allow you to get a console. I understand the purists like the manual shifter, but it makes no sense when EVERYTHING else is electric, including the the trans shifter. If ram fixed these problems and then figured out how to get a Cummins under the hood, there isn’t a manufacture in the world who could keep up with their sales numbers. Oh and if the rumors of them ditching asin transmissions for Allison are true, gm and ford would be in real trouble.

Giving the winch location as the reason there is no diesel option is pure BS. Just mount the winch out in the front bumper like on the original Power Wagons. When RAM premiered the "new" Power Wagon in 2005 at the Detroit motor show, it had a diesel. If weight is an issue, why offer it in 2500s-5500s? The increased weight of the diesel would be overcome in off road work capability. We use our PWs in logging in hard to get to locations and we could definitely use diesel torque and engine braking.

4WD Magazine I would like to see Ram put a H.O. 6.7 on a Quad Cab with 6.4 bed 4x4 and call it a PowerWagon but instead of using CRAPPY Bilstein Shocks, make a contract with Carli and/or AEV . However... I’m going to say the real future Power Wagon will probably go to a beefed up TRX. Shame... fuel economy in a diesel and torque are far far superior compared to a gasoline engine. So is longevity life. The reason why consumers don’t get exactly what they want in the future is because of many variables: Customer wants and needs Designer’s ideas of what it should be; individual concept perspective CEO and Director’s personal input plays a role Money Factory Capability Education to Employees Attractiveness but not over attractive (leave room for market to continue by leaving out all best options o build a definite future) GREED Not comparing too much about the Power Wagon, I can make my own with my 5.7L Gen3

4WD Magazine it was a JKU Jeep that was way too new to be having electrical gremlins and Check engine light coming on constantly. Our school maintains a pair of 2008 Chrysler vans. One is a paper weight with a dead transmission and he other has an electrical fault when you turn on the headlights it temporarily kills all accessory power. Dealership can’t even figure it out. Never owned a Ram but they are on all the reliability shit lists.

Hmmm I've owned ford chevy and dodge/ram and jeep! I've had more issues with GM out of all of them however one of the jeeps my wife owned was a nightmare....but I've owned 4 dodge/ram trucks and no issues really other than my own doings! Sorry to hear about your bad luck though definitely can see your point of view to an extent.

Adam Harris 2 things here Adam: 1. Jeep since 2018 has greatly improved in quality parts and construction. They are way way way better now days, Jeep’s fault in the past, NOT CHRYSLER (don’t be so Racist) 2. You never owned a Gen 3 Ram Cummins, we all that have can tell. If you ever did get that luxury, YOU WOULD SWEAR BY RAM AND CUMMINS! They are bullet proof once you swap out some parts. Best part is, there is enough knowledge online even on the 6.7 Cummins, to build your truck Bulletproof (life long truck ownership). I have a Gen 3 (my second one, 1st one lost in divorce... even Ruthless Women know they are good to keep!) and lm about to buy a 2020 6.7 Cummins and trade in my current Wife’s CHEVY CRUZ in for it! Yeah, replacing a Mid-Size Sedan for a 2nd Cummins Ram (this one will be mega cab). And it’s not about having the biggest or best... it’s about owning something you can expect won’t break down much and will last a life time (a time piece investment). Plus it’s big enough for my German Shepard and family of 4, great Fuel Mileage with an Edge Jammer Kit (tuner and CAI), you may need an additional fuel pump but they are cheap and cheap to install. My 2004.5 Gen 3 Cummins: 783 WHP 1637 WTQ 31.2 MPG in Tow Mode @75 mph 25.2 MPG in Tow Mode @90 mph.... tell me another truck or setup that you can HAUL ASS and still get GREAT FUEL ECONOMY... don’t worry, I will wait..... Oh and I beat Z07 Corvettes in a Quarter Mile Edge Jammer FASS Fuel/Water Separator Pump Aurora 4000 Turbo (peak 52 psi) Straight 5” exhaust (Cat-Back)), Magna Flow Catalytic Converter 4” Suspension Lift with Fox 3.0, piggyback Dual Fox Stabilizer Shocks, Suspension Carli SwayBar and Steering Brace BDS Extended Stabilizer Bars, Rear Stock Bumpers and Body 35” Nitto AT sitting on 17” MT’s My wife can here my truck outside for at-least 2.5 miles down the highway when I take off from my house.... I seriously need to quiet my exhaust (idle decibel in cab 78 decibels, outside at idle 100+)

Jason S I know a lot of people love ram truck and I’m glad you guys can take pride in them. I typically don’t buy newer vehicles and I took a chance on that jeep and I could tell it was going to fall apart as it aged. I certainly hope the new body style is built better. I work on cars as an auto body technician. I’ve taken apart all makes and models and Chrysler products are clearly just not put together as well as other brands (like Toyota). A Chrysler 300 bumper cover will come off with eight fasteners, a Toyota Camry has 14 fasteners holding its cover on. Endless other examples. I’ve just known too many people let down by the Chrysler minivans, Chrysler 200 cars, Chrysler 300 cars, trucks, etc etc.

Also have a project vehicle '96 Jeep ZJ 3.73 ratio, and a '03 Ford Explorer 4wd 4.0 3.73 ratio. Each vehicle has situations that it is superior to the others. We did own a '85 Ford Ranger 4wd longbed. And I sometimes drive Rangers on my job. The Explorer seems more fun and practical than any of the Rangers that I have driven. "crushing off road competition"... unless you are referring to local wildlife, I can only conclude you have no idea whatsoever of the kind of off road prowess available in vehicles today. The Power Wagon is a strong, capable barge. It's enormous dimensions militate against agility. It's OK but many vehicles will drop it off road.
