What’s the difference not installing the secondary plug? Just better airflow?

What is the deal with the round foam piece that has to be installed on the box? Will this allow the engine heat to be pulled into the air box? Same with the extra optional plug on the side of the box, will this also allow heat to be pulled in from the engine bay? I love S&B i am just curious to those 2 questions that I have. Thanks for anyone that can help answer my questions.

Does your truck have to be deleted to put this on? Stupid question I know. Or can you put it on with it being not deleted.
