Diesel all before or shortly after 100,000 miles. = $10,400 when the fuel pump blows. $3,800 when the DEF needs replaced, $1,900 when the DEF fuel injector goes out, $1,748 in front in repair because the components can't handle the diesel weight, and .24 a gallon more than gas. But the pulling power is great. To each his own... decide if you can afford one and if you really NEED one.

Your right, there is no comparison pulling with a diesel vs a gas. The problem is all the emission failures. It gets old when you need a truck on the road and its down due to an emission failure than you can't do anything about. They have ruined the diesels now. Its not a matter of IF you have a big problem, its a matter of WHEN.

Squat looks fine. Gas engines have a great weight and price advantage that works for many. When you experience a diesel injection pump failure (Ram, GM and Ford CP4 issues) or DEF system failure the gas engines are great options. Definitely making me think of getting a gas RAM and move away from my RAM 6.7 CTD. Good review sir!

The 6.0 has about 365hp and 375 lbs. of torque . The 8.1 has 340 hp and 440 lbs of torque . The 8.1 with the 410 gear ratio will walk off and leave the 6.0 373 gear ratio pulling the same amount of load. The 6.0 will get a little better mpg.

At almost 6,000lbs payload capacity (5,760 to be exact), after I hook up, subtract fuel, me and the wife, and all that jazz, I still have a TON of free payload. Tow/Haul mode and engine brake on, my brakes don't even know what my foot feels like... Do I need it all? Probably not, but it sure is nice to know it's there if I need it, I would rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

This engine is absolutely fine,it did great. You are being overly critical, 11,000 dollar upgrade for a Duramax, and if you live in cold weather, the diesel is an assache between the long warm up times, and DEF freezing and the inevitable emissions issues, and being stuck on the side of the road ,the gas is a great engine, based on the LS/LT engines they are a lot more reliable than the Duramax or any diesel for that matter. You can work on the gas engine yourself spark plugs and wires are easy to replace every 100k, the diesel fuel filters, and fuel quality is a huge issue especially now with so many 2020 diesel trucks dropping like flies on the side elf the road from bad injection pumps .You are not racing with a 5th wheel trailer so why bother with full throttle acceleration? Of course the Duramax will pull better it’s got twice the torque . Remember this base 6.6 gas truck would outpull anything made 15 years ago.....

I agree, I was being overly critical because I jumped out of a diesel into the gas and was taken back by the power differences but this truck would haul this trailer no problem even in grades. Thanks for sharing 👍🏾

Hello again! Hey that rear seat thing is so you don’t forget junior is back there, so don’t forget him/her! Back up for trailer hookup is the single line, but the button over to the right gives you the grid lines. Now as far as power goes? That has engine has more hp and the same tq as diesels had 20+ years ago. But today’s diesel has TWICE the tq and more hp! If I were to tow over 10k lbs? All the time or at least every month? I’d by a Chevy 3500 Custom 4x4 diesel, instead of a LTZ gas, or 2500! But in either I would add Bilstien Struts and Shocks, with rear air bags!

You feel the torque build with the diesel and makes it feel significantly faster than it’s really going. The gas torque curve doesn’t build as much so you don’t get the feeling . Time them and the gas won’t be as far behind the diesel as you think .Your Ram took 8.9 seconds 0-40 this took 10.5 seconds

Yo JB, I was going to get 1 ton RAM 3500 gas, but guess what? I just traded in my 2017 Silverado 1500 LT Z71 for a 2020 Silverado 2500HD LT. Yes, I was going to get a one-ton but the deal on this 2500HD was too good. The dealer was trying to unload this truck, so I could not pass up the deal. It is an LT with a lot of packages, not the higher trim like the LTZ, but it has a lot of options that are similarly equipped like an LTZ. I like your videos; they are very informative. I like the fact that your videos do not have obnoxious background music, AND most importantly, no kids to interrupt your reviews.

So 464 lb/ft of torque on this 6.6 L and the 3.5 L Ecoboost is 470?😳 I know the Ecoboost isn’t a 3/4 ton but damn. I’m thinking that heavy duty trucks should start moving to forced induction. I know there a give and take to have forced induction, but I think if these companies get started now, they can work all the kinks out of the FI systems just like variable valve timing. Also, with forced induction you can move your torque band to a lower RPM and flatter curve. Just saying, great video though, thank you for the information.

The diesel with 10 speed and 3.42 is very quick. It gets off the line with all 910 FPT at 1st gear 1500 RPM. The setup for the newer diesel offerings is smokin hot for GM. I'm a big fan of the new updated version of the 6.0 gas with the longer stroke and better fuel management as well as the cooling improvements. It's not really cool to compare the two engines (diesel vs gas) at all really because they are apples and oranges. The gas engine gets its torque of 464 at 4000 RPM's, that's a world of difference but that's how gas engines work. This video doesn't really do justice to the technology being reviewed. It should be compared to another gas engine not a diesel engine. This 6.6 gasser will run at 5200 RPM's at load all day because that's the way it's designed. It has better cooling, better adaptive oil management and is engineered with heavy duty use in mind. It's also using an updated and improved version of an already proven 6 speed that is equipped with grade breaking. Can you use it to pull that load of yours through mountains and up grade? Hell yes. If You were doing it for a living every day of the week would you buy the gasser over diesel if money wasn't an issue probably not. Would you do those same grades at 70 plus MPH? No. Could you push it as hard as you wanted? My guess is you could. All in all I think GM hit the sweet spot with this one. Put it in a 3500 so there's less squat and more money in your pocket because the dealer pays no advertising on those. Spend the savings on some great extras then slow down a bit and enjoy the ride. Thanks for the vid and don't worry I haven't forgot, your making them and I'm not. Thanks again.

Agree with your towing comment "don't tow in the mountains w/a gasser". It will get you there but you will not be happy w/the lack of power and all the pissed off drivers behind you! If it were a 28' 5'er under 10K pounds, it would probably tow just fine anyplace.

The horse power isn't either one, 410 or 401, nor is the torque 460. That's GM's rating. That's rated using E-85 fuel. They claim the 5.3 is 355hp but it isn't. My truck is the rally with the 5.3, with electric fan, a 3 inch duel exhaust from the cat back, resonator delete, afe momentum cold air intake, under drive pulleys and a custom tune including the transmission and on the dyno i had available with 103 sunoco fuel, it only produced 336hp. That's decent, but the 04 could produce the same thing. The difference is WHERE abd how it's generating its power. The variable valve timing really makes a considerable difference in where it starts producing that power in the RPM's and how long it produces it before falling off. The biggest turn off of the half ton trucks, is the transmission and factory trans tune. They're both garbage.

Yes your on point. #14000 is heavy no if ands or buts your truck is going to work. I know RV’s have gotten fat exceeding #14000 you need a diesel. If your just pulling under 10K your good with gas, my opinion. Good review I like these new GM trucks. Another thing to consider, when Ford introduced the Power Stroke 7.3 in 1995 that changed the game, yes there were a few early 12valve Dodge Cummins around, but even then being able to tow 13, 14K was a big deal my 97 4x2 extended cab 7.3 maxed at 13K so compare that to today just food for thought.

Good video and you definitely aren’t afraid to put your foot down. Of course the any of the diesels from the big three are going to tow better. That’s kinda stating the obvious. I think for most weekend warriors you showed that the gasser has the ability to tow your trailer or equivalent around just fine. I do believe you referenced each individual situation is different and I agree. Diesel is great for everyday towing or mountain use. I have a 2018 hd LTZ 2500 with the duramax. But living in DC area, stop and go bs in tysons corner. If I had to di it all over again I'd get the gas, cheaper 10k off the bat cheaper maintenance. But the 6.6 diesel is beast and will roll anything. But my gearhead and lust for power over ruled my common senses. Lol

It would be between the Ford 7.3L w/ the 4.30 rear axle or the RAM HEMI w/ the 4.10 rear. Once GM decides to add more gears I think the Chevy would be second place (RAM 3rd place) but they decided to use the 6 speed and although it’s reliable, it doesn’t compete with the others with more gears 👍🏾

Its hard comparing a diesel and power to a gas burner. There really isnt any comparison... And its all about the money really and your needs. Gas burner 3/4ton truck generally will tow what ever you want. Same as a diesel. Its up to the owner/buyer on really what he is gonna use it for.. towing everyday, Heavy equipment etc, diesel. Towing once a month or just interstate pulling, Gas. But you cant compare the 2.... I have a 6.4 Hemi and i tow a 37foot bumper pull camper at 7800lbs all over bc of working on the road. All interstate etc... Good vids tho...

Also price, 12 to 15K more for diesel, maintence nearly doubles sometimes triples and in the long run, Youre gonna pay half or more than half of your sticker price on maintence for a diesel. Good when theyre new until you have a pump go out and or glow plugs, turbo go out or whatever. Then youre gonna have 80-100k in a 65k sticker price truck.
