First of all great video!!! Your garden is lovely. I love gardening and canning. In the past I canned 80-90 quarts of green beans each year, made salsa, applesauce, sliced apples for pies, apple butter, many quarts of tomatoes, and the list goes on and on!!! My husband and I picked strawberry, black raspberries, peaches, and cherries. For canning, jams, pies, you get the picture. It was so enjoyable. So that's why I love your videos!!!

Thus is an amazing garden for your first time ever. In my opinion there is no need to pick the flowers of your strawberries in the first year. Never had a problem in year two or three. The plants normally have the most fruits in that years. I toss them after year four.

Excited to see your garden this year! Mine is never big enough either! We installed the cattle panel trellis system (we do them in arches) Roots and Refuge farm has a video. I put all my vining plants on them and it has been AMAZING they take up much less ground space that way and they are pretty to look at too! So much easier to pick the cucumbers, melons and squashes! We had about 30 spaghetti squash on them and they held up very well!

Hi Kim. Garden looks beautiful. I know you were trying to find natural products for your home. I wanted to tell you to try food grade diatomaceous earth. It gets rid of the bugs like the Seven dust (which is poison) and is not poison. You can actually eat it. I've used it on all my vegetables and it works great. Just put it in a shaker like the one the dust comes in or even a sock and shake it on after you water.

Probably a silly question, but what’s the process for watering your garden? I really want a green thumb! Lol
@andreavanskiver2293
@andreavanskiver2293 3 жыл бұрын
For my garden I try to water every morning and now that it's getting hotter I'll start watering in the evenings too. To know if youre watering enough just push a finger (to about the first knuckle) into the soil to see if it's still moist or not. If it's not moist then you will want to water more. I've always been told not to water while the sun is beating down on your garden because it will steam your plants. If tomatoes are watered inconsistently the skin will burst because they'll absorb all the water they can. I hope this helps!

Can you tell us a little bit about how you prepped your land? Do you fertilize, any additives, etc.? Also have you ever had tomato end rot? If so what do you do?? I’ve been researching back to eden gardening for about a year now and I know it differs region to region but nothing like experience!
@Kim_Martin
@Kim_Martin 3 жыл бұрын
We plowed it up, and it happened to be very fertile soil, which was a huge blessing. my husband put some All-Purpose fertilizer on it. (10-10-10 All-Purpose) Then we tilled it, and it did so good! I haven't had any issue with end rot YET.
@stay-at-homemomof-6
@stay-at-homemomof-6 3 жыл бұрын
Tomato end rot or blossom end rot as we call it can be resolved by adding calcium to the soil. We buy special bags just for that. You can try saving eggshells and crushing them and using them for calcium.

Lovely garden but it was a little distressing to see you sprinkle insecticide on your flowering tomatoes. Tomatoes are not self pollinating and require bees to produce fruit so you really want to avoid treating them at that time.
@CG-mj8tk

I don't think most people realize that insecticides and herbicides are destroying the 🐝 colonies. It's so sad bc we depend on them more than most people know. But I do think most people just really are not in the know about it.
