Thank you very much, Michael, for this extremely helpful post. We are having the same issue on a 2020 EX - L Pilot. This workaround, at least prevents it from being a safety issue, since the static can be quite distracting when it gets loud. We have been an all-Honda family since the 90s, but will never buy another one because of the way they have “handled” this issue. Ridiculous.

SOLUTION: I had very loud popping/crackling sounds coming from the speakers whether they were on or off. It sounded like someone throwing gravel at the windshield. After doing some research I discovered the likely cause was broken electrical connectors in the wire harness that would intermittently come loose causing voltage spikes. My 2020 Pilot Black Edition has two wire harnesses (the latter for the back seat Blu-Ray player). Replacing both wire harnesses under warranty at a Honda dealership completely solved the problem for over a year now. My Honda dealer said he has seen hundreds of cases of this problem all fixed by replacing the wire harnesses. Also kinked fiber optic cables in the "MOST bus network" can create similar issues and is related. Honda extended their warranties and it should cover 2018~2020 Pilots, Passports, and Odysseys. Thank you; I agree that it’s a work around & doesn’t solve the problem. HOWEVER, we paid almost $50,000 for a product that has a problem that Honda can’t seem to fix.

I have a 2021 pilot with this issue for a few months, waiting for the dealership to “test” it and hopefully get it fixed. I read online that the noise would come back after a year even after replacing the wirings. Its a design flaw, will sell mine before warranty expires.

Ours is horrible. Honda doesn’t seem to have any parts to fix the issue.

2019 oddy elite here and the fakra was replaced. I got the cracking sound again last week, brought into honda. They said I needed the complete unit replaced. They didn't have the part so I had to bring in a week later. Later that night I left my lights on and the battery died. I jumped it and the cracking noise went away and my rear entertainment started working again. I still plan to bring it into honda to get the unit replace since I had extended warranty. But it's been 3 days and no cracking noise.

Even more fun that a version of this is happening on my 2022 Passport. Since '22 isn't mentioned on any of the service bulletins it's difficult to get the dealer to do much since unfortunately mine isn't consistent enough to get it to happen for them. But after reading a forum post, I smacked on the dash above the infotainment system and instantly the static stopped. It stayed gone for 2 full days whereas before I couldn't even drive 3 minutes before it would start happening.. Even when coming back it's a significantly software quieter static and less annoying.. almost like the hit dispersed the static into little bits though that makes no logical sense. The downside is that it's even more impossible now to get the problem fixed since it's so much less prevalent. But I can happily get by with a whack on the dash every couple of days if that keeps doing the trick since it's a lease. I assume given the location and behavior from hitting it, my problem is likely with the dash wiring harness or the related connections.

same issue 2019 Odyssey. Been into shop 4 times, still happens intermittently.

Between my family and friend we are 6 Honda pilots, we all have this crackling sounds and Honda does not have a fix, I think Honda just followed this video and just lowers the system sounds LOL, very sad to spend this much on a suv and having this issue, sometimes it gets so bad I feel like just jumping out of the window .

Press and hold the home / day night and power buttons the self diag screen comes up select unit at the bottom then shutdown reasons , it will display the error codes for which unit is dropping out causing the noise , go to that unit and straight up the red and green fakra connectors back wires should be nice a relaxed no kinks clear the shutdown errors and exit out , if it comes back do over next unit

Have 2020 Odessy van, having the same issue and do they have a fix? I took the car to dealership four times, in total they had our van almost a month, keep saying they are going to try this that connect with Honda Canada technologist and fix...and ***kers have no fix

I love the Pilot but this issue is ridiculous and quite out-of-character for Honda. What’s more annoying is that Honda seems to know about it but are quite coy about the cause (and the fix). Mine has been getting worse and worse… hopefully the dealer is fixing it next week.

Ours does it after hitting a bump. All ok, stress the frame and pop( like light hail is hitting the car). Taken it in twice, still happens 😠

The crackling not only sounds in the radio, but it also affects the hands-free phone. Calls cannot be understood at all because of interference. Then today, the radio popped off by itself and the screen said, "No audio connection." I had to stop the car, turn it off, and start the car again just to hear the radio. One Honda "specialist," told me that Honda thinks it has something with Android Audio...but of course, they don't know how to fix it.

I get static in my speaker then the music rather on my Bluetooth or CarPlay it will cut off

Well, I’m on my third attempt at a fix. They put in some kind of new connectors at the dealer and that worked for about a year. Now it’s back. 2021 Pilot. Dealer said they will call Honda Corporate and see what to do next. If the 2022’s don’t do it, I assume they have a fix?

We have also been struggling with this mysterious infotainment issue with our Odyssey 2019. Another youtuber's video best describes the similar problem with Odyssey: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/r7dimZiLvZi7Zmw.html. This Honda Pilot interface looks almost the same as Odyssey's. I guess they probably just use the same components. We've been to the dealership twice and the problem is still not fixed. In fact, we are seeing additional related issues lately (like entertainment system not loading and speaker sound suddenly disappearing). It just felt like the whole thing inside the car is falling apart, but Honda just cannot figure out what it is. Quite unbelievable.

2022 Pilot Limited Edition is doing it now... It is back at the dealer for the second time. Honda Tech said it is a "bluetooth issue" (BS).. So they said dont use the bluetooth OR carplay and see if it does it. After 1 day it started up again. They did a reset of the radio and said they can not duplicate the issue... I keep getting the runaround... It will start up again once driven for 20+ miles. I sent them videos of the issue to give to Honda Tech (as requested).. Tech said there is no problem. Just a bluetooth issue.. It has NOTHING to do with Bluetooth. I am about to just buy a nice aftermarket touchscreen. Whats another $2000? especially after spending $47000... Come on Honda. This is silly getting the runaround and refusing to figure it out

What's worse is that I drive around with this issue which seems worse when it is hot outside. I cannot seem to get the car to do it at the dealship and they will not fix it unless it will do it in front of them!! Seriously! Two years of popping.
