The front-drive Kona is lighter and more efficient than the AWD but also loses the independent rear suspension. The torsion beam in back of the front-driver is actually a blessing though: it makes the Kona slightly friskier in certain scenarios where most rivals would just understeer.
The lack of AWD does seriously hamper the awesome Sport mode from being as fun as it can be. Why? The FWD just has a hard time putting down its power. In here we ask for either the Veloster N's limited-slip differential.... or perhaps an AWD Veloster N!!!
In truth Kona is a class-leader for its roominess, easy and complete tech suite, and overall stylishness on the road. The fact that it has awesome steering feel and peppy performance is a welcome bonus.
