Homologation played a part in how externally it couldn't replicate the old Defender (safety standards). Think it looks beautiful even though at first I didn't think so. As others have said it's a grower. As for interior, capability and performance.....wow.

Beautiful design very $ here in Australia. 0.8 sec off manufacturer figure of 6.1 seems a lot maybe tight new engine ? Also, 27 degrees is not hot. 35+ Celsius is where you should see turbo engines suffering a lot more

*I'd still like to see you guys pull a little longer on the mid range runs. Maybe pull thru 2 full throttle upshifts if you have enough room? Doesn't tell me much when you let off right before the upshift. (Exact kph notwithstanding)*

They had a V8 option, also 4 and 5 cylinder diesel options. You could even get it with a BMW M52 engine in south Africa. Today a 4 cylinder turbo would out perform any factory V8 put in a defender (besides the Jaguar AJ-V8, but they only made 150 of them).

Why does JLR neuter their new I6 to sound like any Toyota or Nissan V6? It should be tuned to sound like a BMW I6 or even Mercedes’ new M256. Instead JLR has muffled all of the glorious inline-6 engine sound and the engine suffers from weird accelerator calibration that seems to exacerbate lag. For a claimed 400HP it sure isn’t very quick either. An old Discovery 4 5.0L V8 was faster with less power and torque and weighed more, had only 6 gears vs. 8 and was as aerodynamic as a brick.

The Velar is a pointless bling car. I really dont understand where its supposed to fit in the range. A womans car at best. Ive driven one for a day and it was bloody awful. Felt a right idiot in it.

@@oddities-whatnot one of the most pointless criticism I've heard. It's supposed to fit between the evoque and the sport. It's pretty much the most beautiful Land Rover atm and just as fast as a V8 sport with "only" an Inline 6. So I would get why people would want one even though I prefer the real Range Rover, the Velar is just more practical

that’s what we call a wheel lock, in various places around the world, there are thieves who will jack the car up and steel the vehicles wheels so they can resell it for money leaving the owner of the vehicle stranded and wheeless, wheel lock help prevent this because there is a special unique socket that the vehicle comes with that can take that nut off

You’ll find it is actually an inline-6. JLR no longer makes a V6.

@@Matt-nq4du lol yeah, AJ126 was the old Ford V6, that was scraped a good while ago. New engine is a i6 single turbo with a 48v mhev system to reduce turbo lag and improve stop start

$160K !?.. This P400 is $88K AUD in the US. Why is it almost double the price in AU? Screw that for a freaking joke. I couldn't buy it knowing I've been seriously ripped off and pissed a heap of money up the wall. At least it has 131kW/t which is better than most Au 4x4 shitboxes so at least it can get outta my way.

Ingenium inline 6 engine

As Jack said, it's an Ingenium (Stupid name) engine, very much like the BMW B series engines they are modular, meaning they can be built as 3,4,5 and 6 cylinder engines each with 500cc displacement per cylinder, so the 3 cylinder would be 1.5L the 4 cylinder would be 2.0L etc. We will very likely see more inline 6 engines in the future, now that inline 4 turbo engines are so popular, its much easier to just extend an inline 4 cylinder design to an inline 6 design rather than designing a whole new V6.

Given the racist and discriminatory new set of adverts for the new discovery I can't see landrover selling many cars until they have a public apology and withdraw the errant adverts. The hatred this has caused is beyond discription of the most vulnerable in the uk and EU. The ceo of landrover must now resign as the head of the football association..
