Argerich just demonstrated the definition of a literally "perfect" performance.

Brilliant, soft, muscular, delicate, articulated, attuned to the orchestra, extraordinary Martha. What is interesting to me is that we hear the instrumentalists featured in a grand way, yet it doesn't interfere with the soloist. Some parts of the score came alive for me in this performance. Two Mother Goose Suite encores....the Pavane always gives me goose bumps, especially if Martha is playing!

What a beautiful composition! I can hear echoes from gershwin to Mozart... Very modern and enjoyable music. The 2nd movement is really moving

It sounds so modern! How could it have been composed over 90 years ago???

Its a shame that it was such a reserved performance. It takes the fun out of ravel and the meaning when you play it in an overly deliberate way. There needed to be far more dynamic range, rubato, and articulation contrast.
@user-bl6ip7ru6c5 ай бұрын
Whoa... Deliberate? Listen to the nuance, man. Just the english horn solo in the second movement is worth the listening. You wanna play Ravel like--what--Rachmaninoff? To each his own, I guess...

I just couldn't disagree more. You didn't see how smiling and happy and interactive she was with the conductor and the orchestra?

Even an experienced pianist does not play everything correct. She is way too fast in the Adagio. I wonder when she last looked at it. She is not in the music with the heart. To hear the difference, how it suppose to be, just listen how Hélene Grimaud played it - superb, full with emotions, heartbreaking and beautiful!!

The tempo seems perfect for manifesting the “double waltz.” Any slower and you wouldn’t hear the half tempo waltz in the right hand. The artist, pianist, is like a driver, she is taking you somewhere. It may be a different place from anywhere you’ve ever been. Have faith in her, and let her show you that thing which she knows, and which you have never seen before. Each great artist like this will take you somewhere different.
