Yeah, that turned around quickly... I'm a Mini enthousiast since I was a kid (2005-ish). Mini's were always a rare side here in Belgium. The past year, it seems everyone drives a Mini. Since I commute to college, I've got plenty of time to count the Minis I come across. In a ride of say an hour, I can easily count 25+ Minis. So when I finally can get my hands on one, I'll probably look like one of the people who followed the wave.

if you're laughing at the original Minis from the first generation, you'd maybe have a point, but all of the 2015+ models have above average reliability and dependability ratings.. BMW learned from their mistakes during the facelift rollouts

I got to drive one for a few days while my cooper s was getting maintenance, really enjoyed the feel of the engine, I loved the interior, and the steering wheel felt very nice.

I'm a huge fan of the throwback in the ambient lighting system, the led wrapping around the infotainment is reminiscent of the original center mounted speedometer. AWESOME.

We rented a Countryman to do a driving tour of Oregon. By day two my wife was asking if we could trade her VW Alltrack in when we get home. I had never driven any Mini automobiles, but we're fans now (but still haven't traded the Alltrack in).

Was surprised about your comments on the manual not being engaging, I really like the 6 speed Getrag unit in my F56 Cooper S. Btw, you can turn off the extra engine synthesized sounds with an app on your phone and an OBD dongle. The exhaust is very very quiet I have an aftermarket system on mine that livens it up.

If you live in the uk, it’s hard to get a Mini Cooper because the engine is a 1.6 which is too big. You can get a Mini one which has a smaller engine. As I said this is in the uk and if you don’t live in the uk then your probably have different requirements

Sirui Zhang head up display shown in the video doesn’t require mirror for reflection. It uses windshield as reflector. Probably need to turn on in menu.

It has become compliant with 2020 crash testing, while also quiet enough for it to be considered "premium". It used to be that smaller meant lighter, because less material is used, but also made it less safe. Now the smaller size vehicles have to be just as strong as the bigger ones yet with less crumple zone, so the weight savings disappears due to all the extra material needed to keep the chassis strong. And as mentioned all those sound deadening sheets and anti-harmonic weighted pads on the sheetmetal make it sound solid and quieter, but adds weight.

@@stevebuscemi3622 2800, the Miata is around 2300, A fit is around 2500, a Toyota Yaris IA is around 2300, Honda Civic is floating around 2800-3000. Those cars are probably unsafe in a crash though since they are under 3200lbs
