The question on everyone’s lips is… if the PSA Group are platform sharing across their small and medium vans… how long until they all get together on a large one?
Well, right now that doesn’t matter too much because we’re standing next to a Peugeot Boxer large panel van at the Professional trim level which means excellent comfort levels to go with all that power under the hood!
( To check out our latest leasing deals on the Peugeot Boxer, click here: bit.ly/3INqr7a)
Anyone who’s watched the Citroen Relay review we posted previously will be scratching their heads and wondering if it’s the same van… it looks it, but how it handles the Vanarama Road Test will show you it’s a completely different kettle of fish!
Before we get started, we just wanted to take a moment to say that we hope you enjoy watching this review, and, if you do, please subscribe to our channel & click the bell to get notified when we post more content just like this.
And don’t forget that if you’re ever in the market for a new van or pickup truck, head to Vanarama.com! Now, with that done… let’s get stuck in!
Euro 6.2 Standard 2.2-litre BlueHDI Diesel Engine
• Under the futuristic hood with the Peugeot badge on top
• Check out those swept headlights - higher trim levels get LED running lights, but these Halogen bulbs are incredibly strong
• Did you know that the front is broken up into 3 panels? That’s Citroen being clever so if one gets damaged you don’t need to pull the whole front off… just the panel that’s damaged!
• Tough-wearing grille, durable plastics & metals.
• Headlight clusters & fog lights below side scoops.
• Huge visibility through the windscreen & Big aerial overhead.
• Rough & tough durable interior.
• Black plastics & hard-wearing fabrics - no-frills, this vehicle is all about work.
• Steering wheel & dashboard instruments - big & easy to see.
• Handbrake - other side of driver, & alerts sound if it’s not totally off.
• Clipboard - WTF? Maybe put a picture of myself on the clipboard.
• Infotainment demonstration
• Gearstick placement - convenient & dash-mounted.
• Cup holders and phone storage pod under gear stick.
• Flooring - tough mats & plastics, non-slip.
Back door height: 1.8m
Back door width: 1.6m
Load length: 3.7m
Load height: 2m
Load width: 1.8m
Load width (arches): 1.4m
Side door height: 1.7m
Side door width: 1.5m
Payload: Around 1500kg
Some very compelling figures there and some real differentiators that set this vehicle apart from the competition… and speaking of the competition, let’s take a look at some of the other large vans available in the sector right now.
First up, the Boxer platform shares with the Citroen Relay and Fiat Ducato so expect some strong if not very similar, performance in terms of being huge, powerful vans that return excellent running costs.
Next it’s the Nissan NV400 / Renault Master / Vauxhall Movano - Another trio of platform sharing vans which means shared engines, similar loading bays, etc… but they might just edge out the previous platform sharers with their better cabs.
And how about the VW Crafter? - Its Payload isn’t huge and neither is fuel economy, but it’s very user-friendly which is why it gets rave reviews from anyone who gets in it… us included.
Ford Transit - there’s a new one on the way, but the current model is the best-seller for a reason. It makes some minor compromises on payload, but it’s the benchmark and best-seller for a reason.
Mercedes-Benz Sprinter - it’s always sparring for the top spot with the Transit and is absolutely packed with tech. Fleet operators love this tough van and you might too.
On big vans, you always pay a premium for the best performance… except with the Peugeot Boxer which is often available to lease at excellent monthly rental prices.
So, how do we finish this one?
Well, if you watched the previous review of the Citroen Relay, then how I sum up the Peugeot Boxer is going to come as no surprise.
This vehicle is enormous, powerful, capable of carrying huge loads and returning low running costs. It’s tough, rough, and durable as you need from a workhorse vehicle.
The PSA Group will no doubt be looking to centralise their large van platform into something that looks like a larger version of their small and medium vans… but until then, I’ll take these futuristic looks and excellent ROI in a heartbeat!

Great review. One note. New Euro 6b Jumper(Relay) and Boxer share the same PSA engine, but not Ducato. Ducato has an Iveco engine which does not need adblue to meet Euro 6b. Not having adblue system is a huge cost saving feature.

I drive the minibus version. I had only ever driven Transit minibuses before which I love. This is terrible for seat postion and I cant find a comfortable place. I am tall and the floor pan is too high leaving my knees up. I have to raise the seat which means my head is very high and nearly touching the shelf above dash, and the seat does not go back far enough. Also the engine feels nowhere near the tranny and being front wheel drive is odd compared to the rear wheel Fords. Shifting from 4th to 5th does your back in , the gearbox rough and stiff. Transit has a car drive feel about it, this for sure feels like a van ( a bread van). Saying that there are things I do like, it looks nice and it should be reliable.

Have you had the opportunity to review and drive the American Ram Promaster version of this van? It has some significant differences from this Peugeot Boxer. It comes with a petrol Pentastar 3.6 L v6 with 280 SAE NET hp 3.6 L and 260 foot pounds of torque plus a fully automatic with lockup torque converter 6 speed transmission with a tow/haul mode. It also has a park position for the gear selector. Plus it comes with 16 inch wheels instead of the 15 inch wheels on this van. The seats are trimmed out a bit different with different arm rests, fabric covered head rests, driver and passenger front and side curtain air bags, and now a backup camera as standard equipment. It also has a large drink cup holder as standard equipment. Power front door windows are standard. The standard brembo 4 Wheel disk brakes are bigger than thin this vans. 4 wheel ABS and ESC are standard along with traction control. The Promaster gets the 270 degree rear opening doors as standard equipment. Plus since it’s over 80 inches wide, it gets roof mounted clearance lights. However, we are stuck with the previous generation bonnet and headlights. Like your current ones better.

2020? that's a 68 plate 😂 I'm back in my old 19 plate boxer at work. exactly the same as what your reviewing. excellent fuel economy considering its size and power, I believe mine is 130bhp. mine has the ANNOYING slam locks on the back which I hate! I like the layout of the interior, like you said it's very tough and nicely layed out. I dont however like the adjustment of the steering column nor the height adjustment of the drivers seat, I'm not going to lie, I'm what you could call a 'tall midget' lol so you can imagine there is a lot of stretching involved for me to manoeuvre the van 😂 the sat nav is a nice touch though not very reliable. stereo is very easy to use and very clear like you said. oh and the handbrake is in the wrong place 😂 fantastic reliability though, instant start up even on a cold start. I will put out that all my works 19 plate boxers all share the same flaw though, every now and then the immobiliser will kick in, simple disconnect the battery which is located inside the cabin under the removable floor panel , disconnect for 5 or 10 mins and reconnect, engine will fire up fine afterwards

Would be nice to see the Ducato getting a review. While the Citroen Relay/Jumper and the Peugeot Boxer are exactly the same, apart from the grill and the badges, the Ducato is a quite different animal: it has iveco-engines (PSA uses Ford-engines, I am told) and now a 9-speed automatic gearbox and a bunch more tech. Seems like Ducato is the better van, ordered one yesterday...

I actually like the Peugeot Boxer, looks original, non generic and very fun to drive or live with. It should be cheap to maintain I suppose. Mercedes messed up with the new Sprinter, going all curvy. Whilst the VW crafter is jolly beautiful, it feels like it's a generic choice, everyone buys them along with the Sprinter. The renault master/vauxhall movano... don't know, maybe lack of identity in them? But yeah, I'd choose the Peugeot boxer because I want to avoid the herd of sheep that go for the German duo (mercedes and VW).
@vanaramauk
@vanaramauk 4 жыл бұрын

BMWdayWhatyouwant I drive a boxer and everyone at work hates them. The handbrake is very far down, and hurts your back when applying it. The one thing I do not like about this van or it's identical twin the Citroen Relay, is that the 2 meters, ( H1) height option doesn't come as standard. You have to make a special order and wait 3 months for it to arrive. The H2 is too high for my liking. I do not want to be height restricted i case I have to drive in to a low height parking area. The whole Royal Mail fleet of vans are the H1 height. They managed to get H1 for themselves. The rest of us cant. Same thing goes for the back door. I much more prefer to have one big door at the rear that opens upwards, as it used to be. It creates a nice shelter in a rainy day and it is completely out of the way when opened. These two doors that open sideways are pointless. 👎👎

I have a 20 plate from new, It broke down about 7 months ago and, Is still at the dealership now apparently & finally getting a brand new engine fitted due to eating engine oil for no apparent reason (Used one litre of oil per 200 miles) It had done 70k before It did breakdown on 3rd & final time, (Injector problem & using oil) and I can honestly say the van has crippled me during that time. The vans are pretty quick but noisy when running, there Is nothing else I could say Is good about the Boxer, I'm due to get this same van back with a new engine In the next few weeks and I'm dreading It, to the point of giving up my job due to the driving position. Blokują sie w przednim zacisku hamulcowym klocki, do wymiany tarcze i klocki, spalone. W niektórych samochodach pękły wały korbowe, silniki te już nie są oferowane w sprzedaży, są po prostu wadliwe.
