The Running Channel hello and in response to your question yes I am training for a marathon but I put my recent 5k time into a age graded calculator I am 24 years old and my time of 24:21 seconds was 1% below local class but my half marathon times are slower then those for my age group. Should I focus on a marathon or get faster in a 5k?

I started running in March of 2020, and virtual races were a good motivator and a way to see progress so I did quite a few. I've also run in three live races, including my first half! I have to admit I'm the new runner who CONSTANTLY talks about my runs, gear, shoes, the science of running...on and on. I post my runs on Facebook and sometimes think I'm annoying people, but I was shocked to hear how many people have told me I inspire them! Thanks for your great videos, which have been a crucial support in my running journey. ❤🏃🏻‍♀️

I'm the opposite of "elapsed time runner", never pause my run. Your time doesn't pause during a race, why should it pause while you're training? If a 30 minute run takes 33 minutes, that's ok, it will be 30 minutes next time.

Back before gps watches ruled the world I always logged runs. I simply noted distance (estimated), time, and trainers used. Friends went to different levels in logging information. Some included weather conditions, wind direction...and one was so precise that he would write every single detail, including things like which way round a lamppost he went! The best runner I ever knew personally (over 50s international) never even used a watch. His philosophy was that his legs remembered what they’d done!

I'm possibly a subset of the "Early Morning to Avoid the Crowds" runner, that has also been planning in runs on days that are likely to not have many people out generally (Not too early Sundays, and Christmas Day), and finding new routes that avoid as many people as possible (hello weird footpath through some overgrown woods).

In terms of 2020 specifically, I was a "valley" runner. If you looked at my monthly mileage, it was consistent between January and March and then dropped considerably in April through June as I lost motivation given the state of everything and then it slowly rose again to the runner I used to be, making my 2020 monthly totals like a valley

Not sure if I'm one of theese; but I might be a stereotype you might have forgotten. The Goldilocks runner. The one that doesnt run if it's: Too cold. Too hot. Too early. Too late. Too windy. Raining. And yes; I have noticed that I look at other runners shoes and sometimes think they should buy a new shoe...

Early morning. Not necessarily to beat the crowds though. My work it pretty flexible, so I try to start at 6AM so that I can finish early. This means waking up at 4AM most days.

I'm definitely in the get up early to beat the crowds camp. I'm a morning person, though, so I'm still getting up at the same time as I was two years ago, it's just that there's the added benefit of almost empty streets before dawn these days.

We've all been guilty of all of these at one point or another. If I had to pinpoint myself, im the "Rekindled Runner". Summer 2019 is when we suffered a major blow to the family in the form of my FIL dying. I got back to running a couple weeks after his burial, but I just didn't feel the same. The something snapped and I was back to the old feelings

Definitely guilty of being the new runner (after properly completing couch to 5K) and talking about running too much; as well as doing the Great North Run 40 as well as running a kilometre around my back garden. Love the channel, though Anna do you feel personally attacked with these?! Blink once and we can provide a safe place! 🥸

@@runningchannel I did my marathon, after training for it in Spring and 2 weeks earlier it was called off, so I decided to run one in Fall. I got a very cool medal, one with little magnets for 10k, 1/2, 30k and full Marathon to put on, it really helped me to see how far I have come during training. I ran around with the medal for a whole week, showing everyone 'hey I ran a Marathon', lol. I would do a virtual again, but do prefer real races,

I'm a newbie! I'm loving my new hobby, so much that I've signed up for a half marathon (which I might regret ha ha) with my friend. There's also the fair weather runner! Who wont go out if its spitting incase they get wet or get mud on their trainers! Wont go out in the cold incase of frost bite, and even if its too hot incase they get sun stroke (inspired by my aforementioned friend).
