Thanks mate, I appreciate your comment. After a few weeks of using it, I would definitely recommend to pick up one of these, especially if you're into fishing with soft plastics. It feels a bit stiff when you first hold it, but it actually loads up beautifully even under smaller fish, with plenty of stopping power in the bottom section. Now it seems more versatile than I originally thought, as I just tried it with small crank baits and it casts them better than expected (despite I prefer a slower taper for small hard body lures). Shimano knows what they are doing, definitely a keeper in my collection

@@johnloxley8705 They are very cheap for how good they are. A loomis with that performance is twice the price, possibly more.

@@bazkaknics6095 Thats the characteristic of a high modulus blank. Its got a stiff feel but when put under load still bends.

Thanks for the comment. IMO, the UL Zodias has a perfect blank for 90% of the typical estuary applications and I would use it any time for surface lures as well. It has more flex than your L, yet a pretty crisp and fast response rod. The only reason I sold it was, that I came not to like the monocoque butt any more, as it was a scratch-magnet. But as long as you like the aesthetics and style, the performance of the rod won’t let you down.

Hey mate, I personally would go at least one size up for bigger fish, eg. the L-rated version instead of the UL one. It mainly depends on what fish and what circumstances you are planning to use this rod for. I caught a 10kg carp with a lighter rod than this, but there were no underwater snags in the area and I could safely tire out the fish. On the other hand, it is highly unlikely that you could handle a 10kg pelagic fish from the sea with this rod. For that job, you will need a rod with heavier rating

The butt section with the reel seat disconnects from the rest of the rod, so you can slightly reduce the length for transport. I still handle it as a one piece rod though, always keep it together with the reel on

It depends on the conditions you have to fish in. If you are constantly fishing in deeper waters, tidal current or wind, you might want to consider the L version instead of the UL. If you are fishing near heavy structure or the target species are larger specimen, then maybe an ML Zodias, but that rod is much stiffer than its smaller brothers.

Do you think the light ver can still cast lures up to 1/16 ounce because this one one of the problems as the cast weight is 3-8 grams.@@bazkaknics6095
