2020 Subaru Outback: Disable Keyless Entry Proximity System

Learn how to totally disable & re-enable the proximity system for the keyless entry system. WARNING: Do not do this unless you really need to. If you decide to do it anyway, at least watch the entire video so you know how to start your car to prevent being stranded somewhere.
Note: I do not work for Subaru or a Subaru retailer. I am only an owner and am providing these videos for informational purposes only. Please always refer to your Owners Manual for official information.

The reason for this is if you want to leave the key in the car while camping (or whatever). In order to get back in, use the code-method on the trunk handle.. but you have to have a code set up. I would mention this in your description.

Excellent! The keyless fob was not working. I did exactly the same how is explained in the video to enable the proximity sensor and it resolved the problem. Thank you!!

My key fob was failing intermittently, a new battery did not cure it. I followed your procedure, to disable then renewable and things seem better so far! Thanks!

Thank you for this excellent video. I want to disable the Entry Proximity System because I have family members who, after locking the car, are used to checking that it is locked by pulling on the driver's door handle like they did in our older cars without proximity sensors, but this action now UNLOCKS the door if the sensors are on, so I want to disable the system. I assume your method will work with my 2021 Subaru Outback. I will try it later today.

I programed trunk access. But the next morning couldn't start my car. Thank you for the video. I am going to try and fix it it so I can just push button starts again

Will this procedure preserve vehicle's 12volt battery power? I need to leave the car unused for many months and would rather not disconnect the battery under the hood.

If you do disable the proximity features with the door magic or key fob, does it mean that the key fob itself goes to the sleeping mode automatically? Or it will still be constantly sending a signal: "i am here" .... I just want to make sure that the key fob transmits a signal only the time I press a button.

Have had my 2020 outback for a little over a month now. About one in every six times that I touch the driver door handle, it unlocks all the doors. Is this a known glitch? It is set to only unlock the driver door.

I disconnected the negative terminal of my battery for about 4 days while I slowly installed a subwoofer. Hook back up the battery and the dash is giving me a light and warning of “ access key disabled” buuut I was able to get this to work with the door method. Wtf? I must have disconnected something I shouldn’t have.

My FOB only works if I'm within one or two feet of my 2021 Subaru Ascent, is there some magical key Fob combo that I could of accidentally pressed to make that happen?
