The New 2020 Subaru WRX STI provides a Raw Driving Experience . It has been out for years and the engine has been unchanged since 2004...however this is still a great sports sedan. It looks subtle on the outside but provides raw power within. How does it compare to a Civic Type R? Find out.

good choice AWD is better than FWD. And Honda dealerships are going 8-15K over sticker for the type r. I saw a type t for sale the other day for 48K... I almost passed out. I don't know who in their right mind would pay almost 50K for something thats not even worth 40 tbh. Then when you drive it off the lot, its worth 25k Hahha so in one day u will be out 25K 😂😂😂

I bought a 2019 STI. After 1 1/2 years, I bought forged 18” Titan7 wheels with 265x35 Pilot Sport 4s tires. Upgraded to fortune auto 500 coil-overs and added a perrin tower brace. Car feels 10x better now. Car doesn’t lean in turns at all, it’s perfectly flat every time. The stock 19” tires were too stiff, didn’t like them at all. The higher sidewall on my 18’s ride much smoother. I spent a small fortune on everything but now I want to drive the car all the time. Worth it!

I have the same colour and year of this car. I have wanted this car for many years. When I knew they were stopping the production of STI, I felt part of me died. A year after it was discontinued, I bought a second hand STI Spec R. I have been so happy with this car. I would not look anything else if I was given a second chance. The stick shift in this car takes about a good 3-6 months to drive comfortable on the road. My only regret was I did not buy this car when it was new.

I have owned my 2017 STI Limited for about 4 years now and I do not see myself ever selling it (Even though it retains High Resell Value). I have it at about Stage 2 and I plan on going no further. Any further Mods would ruin the Daily Driver factor. Still to this day when I get in my car I get excited. When I am driving it I am enjoying myself. You know that there is always more power available if you just push the Throttle more, so it can be hard to stay within the speed limit. Overall I love this car and it is one of the best car purchases I have ever made. If you ever wanted one, do yourself a favor and get it if you can afford it.

Fantastic vehicle. Always has been, always will be. Drove a WRX early 2000’s into a 335i, then to a 128i 6 speed, then into a 2019 WRX. I came back to Subaru even from BMW because of how much I love these cars. They have that fun X factor that many “better” cars lack, at least IMHO.

Have a 2019. 1. The Post RA engine mods are about a stage 1+ relative to the prior engine....the awhp is about 285 so the actual hp is more like 350...torque is about 330 too.....they underrate it. It is noticeable relative to the 2017. 2. Audio is good in the ltd.. Harmon K. Not audiophile, but good enough. 3. 18” 19 pound wheels and Michelin’s save about 9 pounds per corner and liven it up a lot. Big improvement. 4. Car is a hoot. Super reliable (leaving it stock). Subaru 7y/100k warranty is best in the business... 5. Low wing option on the Ltd is great...hides better... 6. Steering feel is tops. 7. Shifting and clutch drastically improve with stiffened tranny mount (and engine mounts, pitch stop)....issues go away and it is surgical. Etc. On the street, hard to legally use more power. Was being tail gated by a dodge monster 700hp car and after a set of 90 degree turns I took at a leisurely pace saw the other car scrub off into the shoulder....the handling on these cars just stock is amazing (the 265 Michelin’s help....).Really, great street car. Am coming out of a prior 996TT and that was too powerful for the street (it was about 500hp...). It was actually not fun day to day....this car is better (and has a warranty!!).

Completely agree with what you said about the clutch. I own a manual WRX and the clutch took a lot of getting used to for smooth shifting. I didn’t have much issues stalling my car but rather shifting smoothly into 2nd. The Type R has a better shifting experience but the STI sounds better, has AWD, and arguably looks better. I still want a Type R though.
@DriversOnly
@DriversOnly 4 жыл бұрын
By the time I was done, I still had a hard time shifting smooth lol. Type R is an amazing car and I like it better but STI is a lot more raw and some purist will like it better.

You know you are so right. I stall every once in a while in my 2020 STI. I just bought my 2020 STI this year in January. It had very low miles on it. 9,421K. I drive alot. The Irvine Subaru dealership I go to here in CA recommends me changing my clutch @40K. Does that sound right? Or should I change it @50K. I upgraded from a 2017 base model WRX to my 2020 STI and you can tell that the STI is the better car. A great video brother. Stay safe. Subies forever. My STI has mo wing. I put wind deflectors and a vortex generator on .

Fun car and I'm glad cars like these and the Honda Civic Type R are still being sold. That being said, I'm not their target buyer. After a long day of work, I want a smooth easy comfortable ride while I jam along to pop music. I want an automatic. I'm also too financially savvy to sink too much money in a depreciating asset like a car. Both this WRX STI and Type R cost well over $40,000 out the door when you consider sales tax, dealer fees, registration, options etc. I've seen some of them being sold for an out the door price close to $50,000. Only a fool would pay that much for this car.

First off how long is your commute?...second how much of it is highway vs city driving...third how much do you actually like driving... and honestly if you can afford 2 cars this would be a really fun 2nd car and honestly they hold their value quite well especially if they are not modded with a clean background...

Lolll wellll... while I have several cars along with bikes.... and I also do put the kids in the back of my sti.... (ages 4 and 8mo).... I really wouldn’t want to take it let’s say cross country or something like that basically the ride is real stiff even harsh at times.... and the gas mileage LMAOOOOOO 300 MI a tank is stretching it thin that’s if your babying it... and it requires 93 octane as well ....I haven’t been in one with a stock stock exhaust (I have the optional Subaru performance exhaust)...so mine is louder than “normal” .... but for a family fun car ROCK OUT...

@@SonikJesus first of all congrats and welcome to the subie family! Like this guy said, this clutch is not forgiving. But, i think thats what makes it better than the Type R. Drive something that requires a bit practice and skill because when you finally nail it, you feel amazing. Here is some help 1. STI's are rev happy so try not to let off your clutch in first anywhere after 2,000 RPMS, your just gonna burn the clutch and cause it to wear alot faster. 2. Try practice holding your rpms at 1,500 - 2,000RPMs 3. Then lift off the clutch slow until you feel where the car starts to move fowars... thats the bite point. Learn where that bite point is so you can be familiar with the location so you can get there faster without having to find it. 4. Practice getting there quick, holding, revs will drop as clutch grabs, add more gass and u can let off the clutch. Practice is key!!! Nothing is better than hitting clean up shifts and down shifts

That button doesn’t actually do shit beside the percentage of throttle. Say you had the gas pedal to the floor and had eco mod on, the actual throttle percentage going to the ECU is only about 60%. And why did you even try connecting drifting to a AWD car lmfao
