2020 Suzuki Swift Sport Hybrid - Your Questions Answered #AskAaron
Hello guys, and welcome back to Car Obsession. Normally when I review a car I do a segment called 'Ask Aaron', in which I answer questions submitted by viewers, but I got more questions than I bargained for when it came to the 2020 Suzuki Swift Sport Hybrid that I thought I'd film a separate video.
If you want to see the full review of this car, please head to this video: • 2020 Suzuki Swift Spor...

In my country (Belgium) a similar Fiesta ST would be 30650€. My new SSS hybrid was 24499€ and that was already over my budget but the way it drives is worth it. If the price difference would be smaller I would have probably chosen the Ford but I don't think it's worth the 6K more. I also like the fact that's it rather unique, cheap to maintain and Suzuki is considered to be very very reliable.

Some will prefer the swift over the fiesta for its reliability, styling, driving position and visibility and everyday driveability.

In Greece i bought my suzuki swift sport hybrid for 21300€ where fiesta st2 costs 25800€ without the 8 year insurance, if you add that it's about 26500€. I don't who in which country the fiesta st costs around the same price as the suzuki swift sport.

Good review as usual, regarding the fiesta ST yes it's quicker, but in day to day driving not much and in my nearly 50 years of driving cars I've found that Henry does not like his cars to last that long, sure Inthe short term a fiesta will be ok, but if you keep your care longer the Suzuki will be the better bet, Ford can't match Suzuki's reliability (I have to say I did like my XR2i, but it rusted and was not very reliable) and durability. Also for me the Swift is much more comfortable and with Shell V Power or Esso Synergy she flies down the road whilst returning 50 plus mpg, when the time comes I will look forward to trying the Sport Hybrid, as your 0-60 mph video shows its quicker than Suzuki claim, keep up the good work👍👏

Quirks of the non hybrid sport: the distance between the clutch pedal and the foot rest (aka fart pedal!) to the left of the pedals is quite narrow. I found the outer aspect of my foot was hitting the rest when pressing the clutch. Over time I've adjusted my foot position and don't notice it, but initially it felt crowded. Worth checking if you've got big feet. The rear camera is a bit so so for me. It seems to get dirty really easily and big rain drops occasionally collect on the trim above the camera obscuring the view. It's still nice to have. The front collision sensor- gets a little frantic at times. Hair pin bends and narrow lanes with parked cars set it off as it thinks you're about to hit oncoming/parked cars, respectively. When it's frosty the sensor doesn't work properly as it can't judge distance. If it detects a potential collision while driving with a frost covered sensor the whole dashboard screen flashes orange and beeps telling you that the collision avoidance is deactivated. The first time it did this for me was on a hair pin bend with a car on the other side of the road setting off the alert. It really made me jump and I clipped the curb apex looking at the dashboard to see what the hell was wrong with the car. I think it's dangerous as it's too distracting if you're not expecting it. A warning as you pull away that the system is deactivated would be far better. But you get used to it. Its got a digital oil temperature on the turbo page (you can see this in the video). I really like having this as you can see that the oil takes a lot longer than the coolant to reach operating temperature and saves driving hard with the oil not warmed up yet. The paint seems really thin and chips easily. Mine has 3000 miles and has many stone chips on the bonnet and a couple of chips in the doors from people not opening their doors with care. Android auto sometimes doesn't want to connect my Sony phone to the car. The cable registers on the phone as the charging symbols comes up, just the car won't recognise the phone. This gets a bit tedious, but doesn't do it all the time. I'm using a genuine Sony cable, so it's not a cheap cable problem. The door switches are not back lit for night illumination. So there's some fumbling to find which button you want in the dark. Again, after a while you get used to where they are. However, it's great fun to drive and I don't regret getting it.

Thank you for your comment and opinions! You have been so clear with positives and negatives of this car. About the front colision sensor, are you able to switch the alert completely off for ever? Or you have to switch it off every time you get in the car? Have you enjoyed those 3k miles? Cheers and thanks!

@@xavivg199 There's a button to press to disable the sensor each time you get in, but I don't. It's there for the unexpected that you don't see, so I leave it on. It's just it goes off for stuff you can see and when you first drive the car it's unexpected. Now I'm used to that it's just an idiosyncrasy, which may well help me at some point so why switch it off? I've really enjoyed driving it. It's quite light and you can chuck it into corners. Third gear acceleration is great. It's at the right gearing so you get a reasonable kick pulling away from junctions on A roads up to about 60-65. 3rd gear also seems to be in the right rev range for country lanes near me to keep it pulling nicely while zipping about. Flat out acceleration could be better. If it were a little quicker I'd be very happy. I can fit two kids in the back with modest sized car seats. The giant seats for babies that project forwards touch the rear of the front seat. As soon as there are 4 people in the car it feels a little sluggish. I got mine for £14600 new in December as the petrol models were being phased out for the incoming hybrid. I was happy with that deal vs what else was about. I like it enough to be here looking to see what the hybrid drives like. But 20k is quite a lot.

@@btd836 Thank you so much for your time and for being so fast answering, you are helping me a lot!! I thought you had the hybrid one, I guess the 2019 petrol it's more pure and faster overall. I'm spanish, and here this car costs 21k brand new, for me honestly is too much for a 129cv car (hybrid one), but when you look to competitors, fiesta ST for example raises up to 27k almost, what's f* crazy. It makes the swift look nicer and 'acceptable' haha. Last question mate, by your opinions, if you could, would you do an stage 1 reprogram to this car? To tune it up to... 170cv for example. Thanks and cheerss!

@@xavivg199 There's a UK company called CTC performance that does upgrade kits for these cars. Once it's out of warranty it's something I'm very interested in. In the UK I understand that modifying it would void the warranty. Maybe Spain is different? Seeing as you're looking at the same cars I looked at you could try the mazda 3. Ive had my parents one for a few weeks. It's better looking, got a much nicer interior, the infotainment system is much slicker and accessed via a rotary knob rather than touchscreen. Its just slow and less fun to drive, in my opinion. Unless you get the new 180bhp version, which was out of my budget. Depends what your priorities are. Enjoy your car shopping :)

It reminds me a bit of an IMA, like the CR-Z - small battery pack, small motor helping with the low down torque. Curiously, it apparently performs about the same as the 2013-2015 CR-Z (the one with the Li-Ion battery and 137bhp), though it weighs less so that could explain the excellent economy.

Hi, nice video... About consumption: how does the hybrid system work in practice? At 60-70km/h if you press the clutch what happens? At 60-70km/h if you put the gear in neutral the engine stays on?
@CarObsession
@CarObsession 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Emanuele, thanks for watching, and thanks for the question. The car cannot run on electric only, so if you put the car in neutral the engine would remain on.

@@CarObsession I was hoping there would be a "coasting" mode like on the MHEV 48v of the VW Group... Now I have looked on the Suzuki (Italy) website and says this: "When the clutch is disengaged during deceleration, the minimum turns are maintained by the electric motor and the fuel consumption is thus zeroed out. The engine is always ready to resume driving as soon as the clutch is re-entered." This feature is disabled when the AC is on or the battery is low. If you still have the car, try taking a test... on the website it's not clear at what speed you can do that. TY

@@formiga1284 I'm sorry, I no longer have the car, I only had it for a week. By the sounds of the blurb on Suzuki's website, looks like the engine is able to shut off, I stand corrected.

Hello, I write from Italy, congratulations on your videos are very well done! I wanted to ask you for advice ... I am very undecided about buying a new car, between this Swift Sport Hybrid and the Ford Fiesta St ... I am looking for a sports car, but not extreme, aesthetically perhaps, even for its small size , my favorite remains the Suzuky ... Keeping in mind that I have in my hands two quotes for the purchase, where the Fiesta ST costs exactly one thousand euros more than the Suzuky, could you please help me in the choice by giving me your personal advice? Thanks in advance, and many compliments for your work! 😁

Hiya SOULKING, thanks for watching, and thanks for the feedback. I would personally have the Fiesta ST as it offers better performance, it's better to drive, sounds better, can be had with an LSD, the seating position is lower, and the interior is a nice place to be.
