I get around 55-57 mpg. I drive 160 miles a day. About 98% highway. 62mph is the sweet spot on Cruise control. The engine turns off and uses the hybrid mode when it’s level ground or down hill. When not using cruise control you can use the electric motor alone with the engine off, up to 70 mph BUT you have to be progressive with the gas pedal. I bought mine in July 2021, I already have 15,000 miles! No regrets. I get about 550 miles per tank. Only has a 10 gallon gas tank.

Remember guys, the higher gas prices go, the faster the Corolla Hybrid's price premium will be amortized. If gas goes up to $4.5/gal it will take only a little over 4 years for the Corolla Hybrid to start being more economical than the regular Corolla.

You said it takes 6.5 years to reach the break-even point when comparing the hybrid to the regular LE, how did you calculate that number? First of all, you should compare it to regular LE with the $2,000 Premium Package. This is because the hybrid has several additional premium features like the triple J LED headlights, alloy wheels, smart entry system with push button start, upgraded 7 inch driver info display, driving modes etc.

The hybrid is worth it because if you break even in 6 years, and you get a 6 year loan (common these days), it's the same amount spent per month. At the end you have a reliable, proven drive train that uses less gas and is smoother.

If you're going to do a break-even analysis, you cannot just consider the cost of gas. Compared to the regular Corolla, maintenance will be lower and, because hybrids are better at retaining value, depreciation will be lower.

Umm, how about longevity of the vehicle... hybrid BY FAR. Also worth discussing, the transmission has a helical/planetary gear-set... will likely be one of the last things to wear out on the vehicle as to where its the first thing on most other vehicles. The Corolla Hybrid is one of the best value cars out on the road.

According to Toyota, the maintenance on the hybrids is far less than the gas-only versions. They don't require the same amount of fluid changes as the gas-only, and some hybrid owners have been reporting getting as much as 100k miles on the original set of brake pads. They did add in Android Auto and the option for power/heated Softex seating.

Aurva Roy, I just bought the 2020 Corolla Hybrid yesterday. The lack of a spare was almost a deal breaker for me too, but I decided I will just bite the bullet, buy a spare, and store it in the existing spot for it under the floor of the trunk (along with a jack). I really liked the feel of the car during my test drive, and I found that I liked the instrument panel and climate controls much more than what was available in the 2020 Prius Prime that I also took for a drive. My previous car was a 2013 Prius C, which served me well (and is now going to my son). The Prius C taught me to be a more patient driver, and I find driving to be more relaxing as a result.

Test drove it yesterday. Coming from 2014 corolla one thing right off the bat was how much quieter and smoother it was, especially at lower speeds ! Only wish they had a couple more inches of rear leg room and it'd have been a winner for me. 2014 corolla has 41 inches of rear seat legroom and dwarfs some mid size sedans. Next on the list is to test drive accord hybrid !

These gas estimates seem so shocking to me. I live in Anchorage Alaska and it takes me 30 minutes just to get to the other side of the municipality! If I want to visit my sister in the suburbs it's 20 miles. If I want to go to the town over it's 40 miles. I think a hybrid would help my gas spending more than $800.

Not sure why you would compare to base Corolla L. You need to compare to an LE with the option package that has Smart Key to be most equivalent. Then the price difference isn’t as dramatic. Also, the hybrid drives much nicer at low speeds. 0-30mph in city traffic feels much faster in the hybrid. Also, you save on brake pads in stop and go driving due to the regenerative braking. Original brakes will last many times longer on the hybrid. If you drive in mostly city traffic, you will only get around 25 mpg in the LE sedan vs around 55 mpg in the hybrid. Less than half the fuel. On the highway, there might “only” be an 8-10 mpg difference. Your math also depends on gas prices staying the same for 6 years. Hybrid is a no brainer choice for anyone who mostly drives on surface streets.

AvieaGaming You clearly don’t do much stop and go traffic and use AC every day and have some highway driving mixed in. When I drive true city driving with traffic with no highway driving at all and use air conditioner daily, it’s not difficult for fuel economy to get below 30 mpg.

Thanks for the great video! I'll be looking to buy towards the end of August, beginning of September. My past two cars have been Toyota hybrids. First one was still running fine at 289,000 miles when I traded it in for a Prius C in 2013. Now my 2013 Prius C has nearly 250,0000 miles on it - not even 7 years later (got it in December). With both hybrids never had any issue with the battery and kept the original battery in both cars.

@@boujarmouneismail for outside cities since the main roads I travel are posted 55mph. I do 55mph in day but at night when there's less people and animals crossing roads I do 45-55mph to keep electric, sometimes I wont turn on cruise control so when I hit a downhill I can let off accelerator to allow the engine to turn off and use EV to increase speed and try to ride the incline on electric as long as no one is behind me. Now for the highway speeds i just do what the posted speed is due to others that may speed and going below the posted speed just to save fuel is not a good idea due to a speed difference.

People with the 2nd gen prius have theirs last a good 110k-150k miles but they have improved battery technology since then, you could probably get at least 200k miles.

That's what everyone asks about the hybrids... I've owned two Toyota Hybrids (Prius ((2nd gen)) and Prius C). My first Prius got traded in at nearly 290000 miles and the original battery was fine. My current car, Prius C, is nearly at 250,000 miles and zero battery issues

There should be no oil change required on the eCVT transmission so you will save some money on expensive automatic transmission oil there.

about 4Qts of Toyota CVT oil. If you want it to last longer you still better change that fluid every 30,000 miles
@apn42
@apn42 3 жыл бұрын
There is no reason to change oil in an e-CVT. It is even simpler than a manual transmission as it only contains one planetary gear set.
@eugenegolden4174
@eugenegolden4174 3 жыл бұрын
there is no such thing as a maintenance free transmission. CVT, Manual or standard automatic. I know 4 Toyota mechanics and ALL say that the CVT fluid should be changed at 30,000 to 40,000 miles. If you wait to 60,000...forget it. You have already missed the change window. Saving money at the expense of possible not making it to 250,000 miles is not worth the savings. Fine if you are passing the car on to another person after a few years but not a good thing if you plan on keeping the car for years.

@@eugenegolden4174 The Prius transmission is similar to what you would find in a fully electrical vehicle and therefore requires very little maintenance. It is not a traditional CVT, DSG or automatic transmission.
