Why do they make the driver seat of Sienna few inches off to the left of the steering wheel and not totally centered around the steering wheel?
@CarCoachReports
@CarCoachReports 3 жыл бұрын
I’ve noticed that and a few other vehicles as well. I think passenger and driver comfort is a top priority and that includes that alignment of the seat on the steering wheel. I would take it for test drive and see if it meets your needs if not, look at other vehicles in the category including the Honda Odyssey.

@@CarCoachReports I went to another dealership today and found out all Sienna's were like this. The gentleman who helped us today was surprised by it as well. He said he didn't know Sienna's were made like this but he thinks they did it to give the driver more room for their left arms when they maneuver steering wheel. We actually measured it but it was off to the left not by few inches but more. Anyways, just want to say the gentleman who helped us was real nice. And let me tell you about Honda Odyssey. I actually bought one couple of month ago but the alignment was off. Steering wheel needed to be turned little bit to the left for the van to go straight. They tried to fix it but the problem wasn't fixed. They exchanged the van but same problem. They even contacted their other dealership to check the steering wheel issue and they were surprised that their Honda Odyssey had the same problem. They let me return the van. They were so nice and kind to help me to return the van.

AWD mainly just helps you go in snow. It won't help you stop and only helps you turn if you're accelerating through curves or something. It *is* an advantage in snow, it's harmful to promote the false belief that you're safer in snow with AWD. You are not, you have to drive just as slow and carefully with AWD as FWD in snow. It could improve safety if you're deep in the mountains or something where getting stuck could be deadly, but you really shouldn't drive any vehicle at all in that case if you can at all help it.
@billredding2000
@billredding2000 4 жыл бұрын
Well, TIRES are probably more important factor for snow, but AWD is a MUST to get the most out of them. For example, my 2016 Honda Pilot (EX-L AWD) has an excellent AWD system (Honda's iVTM4 is mechanically identical to Acura's SH-AWD but tuned a bit differently -- still a VERY competent AWD) but with the standard OEM All-Season tires, you can't get the full use of all that system can DO. I now have Continental TerrainContact AT tires on (after my OEM tires needed replacing) -- much better and more "confidence inspiring" now, especially in snow (were I still living in CO, I'd go the Winter Tires route each season, but don't need that here in West TX). Or after a serious rain, the many "deep mud ponds" blocking dirt roads out in the desert here (as I had to deal with just recently) that you have to get past...and NOT get stuck. If you want AWD in a mini-van, of course the Sienna is the ONLY game in town...but IMO, the question is how GOOD the AWD system is, as Toyota's weren't as good as Acura's/Honda's in the past. If the Sienns has a "typical" AWD system, then sure, it's better than NOT having AWD, but is DOES need improvement. That's one reason back in 2016 -- when I was deciding between a new Pilot and Highlander -- I went with the Pilot: A superior AWD system to the Highlander (the MAIN reason). And yes, in my case the iVTM4 AWD system DOES definitely help in turns, whether on dry or snowy/rainy roads. So again, my interest with the Sienna would be how GOOD is its AWD system? They are NOT all equal for sure! ;-) Regardless, were I in the market for a mini-van, I'd NOT get a 2WD model. -- BR
@joa8593
@joa8593 4 жыл бұрын
@@billredding2000 Again, AWD can only help you accelerate. All cars have brakes on all 4 wheels and all cars only steer with 2. (Well, excluding some quirky luxury cars) As soon as you take your foot off the accelerator it is mechanically identical in every way to FWD. Does it inspire confidence? Yes. Well it help you in turns while accelerating? Yes. Could it prevent getting stuck or spinning out from a stop? Yes. None of that helps you evade a crash though.
@billredding2000
@billredding2000 4 жыл бұрын
@@joa8593 I wasn't talking about "avoiding crashes" -- that's irrelevant: ALL vehicles can have "crashes!" Regardless, AWD is still superior to 2WD & FWD and it always has been. True 4x4 drive vehicles are even better, but they're outside the scope of this discussion as most SUVs (and cars) aren't 4x4. I have zero interest in 2WD/FWD...will stick with my excellent AWD Pilot for now, and when/if I get another vehicle, it'll be at least AWD if not 4x4. My Pilot has a Normal/Snow/Mud/Sand "situation selector" and it works VERY well (I've used them in very "challenging" situations I'd likely NOT gotten out of/through in a 2WD/FWD vehicle), even though those modes only work (engage all 4 wheels) at low speeds (IIRC, under 18mph) as you'd be going in those circumstances, and so "acceleration" has nothing to do with it. Millions of people are just like you, and just fine with 2WD/FWD...and in most "normal" situations (even in snow with a FWD vehicle, which does better than a RWD) 2WD/FWD works well enough, but it is NOT superior to AWD and never has been. I'd like to see your 2WD/FWD vehicle make it through the 2 (and pretty scary!) terrain conditions my AWD Pilot did recently: Snow in the mountains of NM (above 8000ft) and then mud "ponds" across a dirt road (a number of "forced fordings" which had to be done to get home as there was no way around the mud-pits, pretty torn-up by 4x4 vehicles earlier apparently) out in the desert of West TX)...I doubt a 2wd/FWD vehicle would have made it. BTW, not trying to persuade/convince YOU of anything, just offering a counterpoint for other (and more open-minded) readers here: Get AWD if you can...if you never need it, that's fine, but if you ever DO then it's there for you and might make the difference between being stuck and gettign home. At least that's been MY experience (2014 Subaru Crosstrek XV and now my 2016 Honda Pilot AWD). You sound very ignorant re: the very competent AWD systems available today...hence my questioning about how good (or not) the current Toyota Sienna's AWD system is. AWD DOES make a difference, but some AWD systems are better than others. Choose the best you can afford. THEN be sure your chosen TIRES are up to it also. ;-) Thanks...done with this now, -- BR

@@billredding2000 Uh, then why did you respond at all? I was taking specifically about safety in snow, not any other advantage or disadvantage of AWD. To counterpoint your counterpoint, AWD increases your risk of hydroplaning in wet due to all 4 tires generating wakes. It's not panacea for bad weather.
@billredding2000
@billredding2000 4 жыл бұрын
@@joa8593 "Uh, then why did you respond at all?" 1. To counterpoint your myopic view in the 2WD/FWD vs. AWD "debate," lest some readers NOT get a AWD vehicle because AWD doesn't offer any REAL performance improvements and/or it's not as "safe" as a 2WD/FWD vehicle (according to you). Nonsense... 2. Personally, I don't care about "safety" as it's highly over-rated. Plus, I resent the auto industry adding all that "safety technology" to cars. STOP it! They're safe enough as they are. I just want a car, not an included nanny. And I want performance -- in all kinds of weather and mild off-roading. "Safety" isn't even on my list...just DRIVE SAFELY, yes? Still, an AWD vehicle is inherently "safer" than a 2WD/FWD. They always have been. Accepting it or not doesn't change the facts. Just drive safely...as everyone should be doing anyway. -- BR
