Updates to video: 1) The 2021 Giant Talon 2 in the U.S. actually comes with a mixed Shimano/microSHIFT 1x9 drivetrain, which uses a 12-46 tooth cassette and a 30 tooth crankset. It also uses Kenda Booster tires which are 2.2 inches wide according to the website, though it may come with MAXXIS tires instead in some cases. 2) The 2021 Giant Talon 1 in the U.S. is also offered with a RockShox Judy with the same 100/80mm of travel, but it is a coil spring rather than an air spring, which will be heavier and less adjustable. 3) The prices of the 2021 Talon bikes in the U.S. have increased: Talon 4: $500 Talon 2: $620 Talon 1: $830

Oh is it? When I looked the drivetrain up it said 1x8 but that may be a mistake since i’m noticing some differences.

Though the chain used (KMC 8.3) is an 8 speed chain as well I believe.

@@TalalipopMTB This video was exactly what I was looking for, but Giant makes it hard to know for sure what will be at the bike shop, as far as crankset, tire brand, and tire sizes. I plan on going either today or tomorrow to look at a 2021 Talon 2 small frame 27.5, that the Giant website says they have in stock. Since they do rentals, I am interested to see what I could buy used, or demo, or leftover '20, or some other way to save some money. I like the meatier tires of the '20, so I wish they had kept them for '21. I'd love at least 2.4.

I have a 2019 talon 3 here in Australia I have not had one issue with it so far and I have done about 5500km on it.

Newsflash, the Talon 1 does NOT come with an air fork and NOT with tubeless ready tires! I just came back from a 4 hr trip to buy this bike, just to learn that due to the global supply chain crisis they just don't include those anymore. Giant customer care was less than helpful too.

It absolutely does come with an air fork. And the Rims do support tubeless ready tires. The OEM maxxis Rekons are not tubeless ready however.

7:50 Interesting that the 2020 Talon 2 price was $750 and 2021 Talon 2 price dropped to $575. I just bought a new 2021 Talon 2 the other day and paid $720.

I am debating whether to get a giant talon 3 or trek marlin 5 for a bike that can be used as a cross country /hard tail bike which one would you recommend?

I'm sorry to interrupt in this comment section. But if I were you, I would rather get a Trek XCaliber 7 (2021 mode). It is dropper post ready, tapered headtube, and it's geometry is for XC. It is also an entry level for XC Racing. It's frame is similar with XCaliber 8 and 9. The only difference is the parts like drivetrain and fork

LBS basically told me the 2021 models are comparable to the lower end model from 2020 and before. For example my 2020 talon 2. Would be about the same as 2021 talon 1. So if you wanted to stay with the similar bike you'd actually be stepping up one level.

Hello - my son had his Giant Talon3 2017 bike stolen and replaced it with a Talon1 2020. Just wondering if there is much difference between the two. He got one with the air suspension. Thanks!

Thanks for the great review. I’ve been trying to get hold of a Talon 1 27.5 but it seems impossible! In the UK I think all are sold out until April 2021! So, is the extra £200 for the Talon 0 (which I may be able to get hold of) worth it, or should I wait for the Talon 1?

In the Netherlands the Talon 1 is different. It has Shimano MT200 brakes and a double crankset from praxis with a deore front derailleur.

I have been hoping to get a 2020 Talon 3; then I see the Talon series has been mostly re-done. Unfortunately it appears they have shuffled lesser quality components to lower the price. I wanted the 2020 Talon because it had a front derailleur & I ride 80% on the road. Since everything has changed, which 2021 Talon would you recommend? My second pick is the Trek Marlin 5, but the closest dealer is almost 2 hours away.

Just bought my talon 2. Im liking it but wish it had a tapered head tube or at least a giant airshock. Ill be buying one next plus tubeless tires and a DP. Fyi the price is now $650 US

Both are good brands. I own a 11yrs old Giant Yukon Disc & it’s still working beautifully now. I just bought a 2021 Trek marlin 7 (check out my short simple video) & it’s awesome. 2021 Giant Talon series seems to be less of quality. I personally don’t mind to pay a little bit more for a better build MTB as it could last me longer riding it.

Yes you can definitely upgrade them, but the bike does not have a tapered head tube which is needed for very high end forks. But you can definitely upgrade to a better fork for sure and the drivetrain can be swapped out to a better one, but you just may need some extra parts here and there depending on how high level of an upgrade you want to do.

Currently I have the Talon 3 2020, I want to chance for a NEW Talon model, but I am not sure if the 1 or model 0, I know that this model is not for a profesional purpouse but waht will be your recomendation?

I’ve compared both those bikes in my other Giant Talon comparison video so that can help with some specifics :) but I personally like the talon 0 better because of its shimano deore 1x12 drivetrain. The talon 1 is very similar to the 0 but the main difference is that it uses 2 less gears for a 1x10 drivetrain, which is fine but for mountain biking 1x12 is preferred so you have a wider range.

I'm looking for a bike for 65% city streets / 35% trail, would you suggest this? Want something somewhat rugged. Would you suggest this or the Roam? Just concerned that the Talon not be good on pavement. I haven't owned a bike in forever!

They are very solid bikes, but one thing to keep in mind is that all of the headtubes throughout the range of talon models are straight and not tapered, so you wont ever be able to put nicer upgraded forks on the bike. Dont have any idea as to why Giant has done this, but it really limits things

@@zarakdurrani7584 No... It actually comes stock with maxxis rekons. Early production Talon 2’s gets substituted with Maxxis Ardent Race tires... Go look at the specs of the Talon 2 tires in the Giant Website. Specifically the UK version.

The Talon 0 does seem to have a different bottom bracket configuration. Are they external threaded?

I'm unfortunately not entirely sure since Giant's website doesn't give any information on them besides that they are all cartridge bottom brackets.

Hello all. I have 2019 Talon 2 and want to get 2021 Talon 2. However looking at the specs...seems like i should wait for 2022. Or should i move ahead with 2021 ?? Suggestions please.

idk your current bike is pretty solid, if i was in your situation i would save up for another year and get a more expensive and better bike like a 1 or 0

@@wqtransports They used to have the Cross Trail, but I believe they got rid of that and now only have the Sirrus, which is similar but does not have a suspension fork.

I think everyone should wait until 2022 to buy a Giant bike . Giving them some of their own medicine . Giant isn't selling the Talon 0 in the USA, they have down graded components for 2020 -2021 but raised the price on high end bikes that have the better components. Causing buy to step up in price to get your monies worth, but then the cost is to high.

Is there a difference between talon frame and fathom frame 2021 models? I think they look the same.

Yes they have a lot of different measurements. The Fathoms are just more trail bike oriented while the talons are more cross country oriented.

I have 2 2021 Talon 1's. One is a 27.5 and other is a 29er. Both very good at what they do. Wheel size is optional to you. The price difference will be the brakes and the forks. Very solid bike. I also have a 2014 Talon 1. Proven and beat on the trails. Very reliable bike for me. If you want a hardtail you can't go wrong with these.if you like general biking and hitting trails get the Talon 1 with hydro brakes. You'll love hydro brakes.

Very well. I do road cycling, dirt tracks and some mild downhill. I weigh 156kg I've had a talon 2020 for a year and it's a fantastic ride
