Being a great singer is not just by singing the song but making your listener understand and feel the song and thats how yesung deliver every song he sings. Being a great singer is not just by hitting the high notes but by captivating the audience with its message and thats how yesung gives it to the ears of his listener. He is the best! I feel like he is underrated! He shoukd receive more recognition. Sorry to say this but yesung adlibs makes the super junior songs alive! I mean super alive cause lal suju are best singers but yesung adlibs gives more flavor to it. Even suju admits that it wouldnt be complete without yesung❤❤❤❤ SUJU AND YESUNG FOR LIFE!😍❤😍❤😍😍❤😍❤😍❤😍❤👏👏👏

Yesung's voice is so amazing, that in theory, he shouldn't be pulling the notes that he's doing. But he just DOES! Truly lives up to his name as the artistic voice!
@ysjct2405
@ysjct2405 3 жыл бұрын
Why is that, could you explain? I've seen some reactors mentioning that as well, and some are vocal coaches who are quite baffled he seems to sing out of his comfort range. I don't quite get it... Is it because he's like what is traditionally called a baritone, so he should sing the lower register?
@bandotaku
@bandotaku 3 жыл бұрын
@@ysjct2405 No, it's not that. A baritone can reach a large range of notes with enough practice. Besides, Yesung is actually a tenor. He takes on the "baritone" role in KRY most times, so people think he is, but what type of singer you are depends on where you are comfortable singing and not what notes you can hit. And Yesung's G4's to Bb4's sound gorgeous and you can tell how comfortable he must be singing them. What people usually mean is the technique he uses. He pulls a lot of weight in his chest and throat, which isn't good, and puts a lot of strain on your vocal chords. So in theory, he shouldn't be able to pull off those high notes in his chest and sustain them for long periods of time. And in practice, it has caused him trouble. He had to recover from vocal nodules at one point. However, what's impressive is not only that he can, but it's widened his range more than people think. People that don't know the group well wouldn't know that most of the ad libs people hear in SJ's songs are by Yesung. The highs, the lows, the belts, the background vocals, are all done by him because he usually records the guiding track for the studio albums. Ryeowook and Kyuhyun do ad libs as well, but you can hear the difference when one is singing over the other.
@ysjct2405
@ysjct2405 3 жыл бұрын
@@bandotaku Wow, thanks so much for explaining!! Really love learning new things about him. And I didn't know he's a tenor! Then is anyone in SJ even considered a real baritone, lol... If you don't mind, I have a few more curiosities about Yesung that have been boggling my mind for the longest time, haha. 1. You mentioned he sings those high notes with a lot of weight in his chest and throat. Is it really different from how, say, Ryeowook sings his high notes or people like TVXQ's Changmin or EXO's Baekhyun who also seem to sing similarly high notes. 2. People keep saying KyuWook have a wider vocal range than Yesung. I'm a bit sceptical on this since Yesung has songs like My Dear and Paper Umbrella that have very low notes and then of course, most of the high notes and adlibs are covered by him. When Ryeowook covered Yesung's adlibs in It's You, he went into falsetto for the last part. And Heechul was the one who covered his Walking adlib instead of KyuWook. So therein my confusion lies that if KyuWook have wider range, shouldn't they be able to cover those high note adlibs better? 3. Why is Yesung the one to do the guiding track, you think? Is it because his voice is considered to be like the 'baseline' of sorts? Does this means that all SJ songs are therefore, in essence, harmonized to his tone or range (not sure what is the right term to use)? Like in Ryeowook's Agit ep for the concert practice where KyuWook are harmonizing to Yesung's parts? That's all I have for now, lol. Thank you 🥰
@bandotaku
@bandotaku 3 жыл бұрын
@@ysjct2405 No problem, I don't mind answering questions as long as I can :). There are actually very few baritones in kpop in general. Since kpop tends to favor lighter sounds, you may not even hear them in their natural range most of the time. Off the top of my head, the only ones I can think of are Mingi from Ateez and Leedo from Oneus. 1. Yes, it is different. Ryeowook uses is nose more than his throat, so notes that are high, don't typically sound high when he sings them. But that's also because his voice is naturally high as well. Ryeowook also uses his head voice often, one of the most developed in the industry. Changmin has similar issues, actually. So it's not that different from Yesung in that regard, but the difference in Changmin is that he doesn't put the same weight on his throat, which is why his voice doesn't sound heavy when he gets to the high notes, but his voice does sound tighter the higher he goes. I don't keep up with a lot of EXO to say much about Baekyun, but from what I've heard, I think his technique is similar to Changmin. But again, I haven't listened to him much. 2. Kyuhyun does have a wider range than Yesung. His range is actually 4 octaves, whereas Yesung only has 3 and a half. Ryeowook has a similar range to Yesung, but like you said, not really on the lower end. But Ryeowook doesn't need to go low often. I recommend watching their live version of "Shadowless" to hear Ryeowook's lower notes. Whether a person uses their chest or head, or a mix, to cover notes doesn't matter. Like I mentioned earlier, Ryeowook's head voice is one of the best, so he uses it a lot, as that's just his style. Yesung used his chest most during the ad libs of It's You, and a couple notes that he used his head, but that's what he likes to do. I don't think Heechul covering Yesung's parts over KyuWook had to do with him being better than them, but more so because they wanted different voices. Like Sungmin could do that part as well and so could Donghae and Leeteuk, it's just what they decided on. Plus it highlights Heechul's vocals more which is nice. 3. Yesung does the guiding track because he wants to and is used to it. In the beginning, Yesung was just the better choice for the guiding track because his voice was better suited for it over Ryeowook. And later over Kyuhyun as well. Over time, Kyu and Ryeowook developed their voices much more and all three can do it if they choose. Yesung, being one of the oldest in the group, kind of feels a sense of responsibility about doing the guiding tracks and the members don't mind because he's good at them, and they are used to harmonizing with him. Yesung's harmonization skills are the best I've ever heard. Not that the others can't, just that he tends to do it more easily, probably based on years of doing those guiding tracks.

@@bandotaku 🥰🥰🥰 Thank you so much. Ah, so it's just really about the style of delivering the notes then. Which makes me wonder then why Yesung favours his chest a lot? I imagine it's actually quite straining ya? But how does he do it so well? 😂 Also is it because he tends to use his chest that his high notes tend to come off as 'explosive' (e.g. in The More I Love You, his chorus in Crown which sounded more impactful than KyuWook's etc) Also I've seen vocal coach reactors mentioning his voice is 'rounded'? Any idea what that means? And here's another question... If they are others who can hit those high notes as well, why is Yesung often getting them instead, especially the adlibs? I know it's the producer's choice but just wondering what could the thought process be? Is it because his notes don't tend to sound 'loud' or 'piercing'? Like when he covers the adlibs in Mamacita during SS7, his notes don't sound as 'high' as KyuWook's so I was wondering if he was singing a note lower or something. Also what do people mean by KyuWook having better techniques? I thought they all seem on par with each other, so have always been curious about that as well. And in your personal opinion, what is so artistic about Yesung's voice that earned him that stage name from Lee Soo Man, lol. Bearing in mind during that time SM had ppl like Kangta, Hyesung, Changmin, Jaejoong etc who are top tier vocalists as well. And Yesung's voice was raw back then, not polished as it is now. LSM could have come up with other stage names but it's Yesung he chose. Idk, to me I find it such a show of faith as that name carries a ton of weight. I'm so glad Kim Jongwoon lives up to that name. Thank you once again! It's really nice to finally have answers to my longtime questions about Yesung's voice. Idk why but he's seriously my fave male vocalist of all time. There's something magical about his voice that even though they are technically better singers than him, I feel like he's just... incomparable, lol.

@@bandotaku Hi, I want to thank you for replying me back about the songs and I gotta say his intro for the sorry sorry should not be an intro, it should be a full freaking song. I just fell in love with his voice and I don't even know when I started liking him and him being my favorite🤣. I also saw your other comment with another person explaining about his voice and technique. It was very insightful. Although I like him and he is my favorite, but I've seen some videos about him, I can deal without the second hand embarrassment 🤣🤣. I don't know why I felt that way🤣🤣🤣🙈🙈 In the beginning I wasn't into kpop, cause I didn't want to be that person following those trends. I have like maybe 3 korean songs that I like and find it catchy granted I don't understand a single word of it🤣. I can't remember exactly what or when but it was somehow in my recommendation feed. It was actually a song from Mamamoo and I ended up liking it. Got curious about it and ended up going a little more deeper with it. Somehow I landed on Kyuhyun and then from that point on got me curious about Suju. Now I really like them🤣 my god is a mad house with them🤣. Heechul I saw him on knowing bros which led me to Min Kyung Hoon from BUZZ which I like him a lot. Just started on Epik High, loving them already. And now KARD. I think I will limit myself to these groups now Mamamoo, Suju, BUZZ, KARD and Epik High. Those are my fav right now🤣🤣 sorry for the wordy reply, just felt like sharing with someone.

@bandotaku 3 жыл бұрын
@@believeinhope1 You are so very welcome! :) Fair warning, I'm about to go into my own story and it's long, lol. I also like sharing. I agree, I love that intro so much. And thank you. I'm not a vocal trainer or singer, but I've seen a lot of vocal analysis videos and just relay what I know. Yesung is one of the weirdest members of the group, and that's saying something, but he's also a lovable little bean. I had the same feelings as you before I got into kpop. I was (and still kind of am to an extent) a giant anime fan. It's where my name comes from. Anyway, as a purveyor of anime, part of the draw for me were the different anime opening and ending songs, and in some songs in the middle that were either background or sung by the characters. I liked these songs so much that I started looking up the actual artists and following their work. The first singer I could name was Nana Mitsuki. I love her voice and style. So fast forward, to when Gangnam Style came out, and I started hearing the term "kpop" for the first time. Since the only song I knew for sure was kpop was Gangnam Style, I thought it was a fun song, but I wasn't really interested in the genre. But, I looked up a few songs to check it out. I think they were GG's "I got a Boy," Big Bang's "Fantastic Baby" and SJ's "Sorry Sorry." Of the three, I liked Sorry Sorry the most, but it wasn't enough to get me to delve any deeper. Plus, I'd been listening to Japanese so much, that Korean sounded strange in my ear. Kind of like an uncanny valley effect. Anyway, fast forward again to when BTS became really big and there was huge hype for them. In terms of looks, I didn't really see the appeal (not that they are ugly or anything, just not my taste) and I looked up some of their songs. The biggest one at the time was Blood, Seat and Tears, but they had just come out with DNA so I looked at that one as well. The songs were ok, but again, not really any interest to me. And this is kind of petty, but I also resented them a bit for being so popular and kpop in general, when jpop and jrock have been around too and not gotten that kind of recognition. That was before I learned the history of both industries and how they co-existed. But still, I don't know what possessed me, but I had the feeling there had to be something to this kpop thing. So I did another deep dive and landed back on SuJu. I rediscovered Sorry Sorry again, because I forgot I listened to it, and that lead me to many more songs. They were just so different and something about them really appealed to me. The song that made me a fan was "Devil" specifically the performance version, and still remains one of my favorites. Wow, this is getting long, but to hopefully not make it longer, I was just a casual fan of them until early this year when I also discovered Ateez. So while I was learning about Ateez, I also looked up other videos on SuJu besides music and fell hard fast. I've been an ELF and Atiny ever since. I also casually fan TVXQ, SHINee, and a little EXO. I became an SM Family stan. And I'm also starting to get into Dreamcatcher. Basically Kpop has invaded my life and it's mostly all I think about besides my work. So yeah, that's me XD

@@bandotaku no worries, it was interesting to read it. I'm the same as u, I love japanese anime and manga. Whenever I watch an anime and heard the song from opening and ending or just plain instrumental, I would look it up and download it cause to me is just that good. You're right about jpop and jrock, they don't get much recognition like K-pop does. I think it's more of the company fault that don't promote more internationally. Then again I could be wrong, maybe things change. PS thank u for blue world 👍😄 The only thing I want is Yesung to eat more and stop skipping meals. I'm like dude u can put on a couple of pounds more. It ain't gonna kill u, I saw some before pictures of him and he looked really good to me, like the guy's arms had muscles back then. I'm not saying his current state is not handsome, just for a guy his height and age, he looks slightly under weight. I think I saw some videos that he said his face is swelling before a video shoot or whatever. I'm over here thinking yeah dude that's probably the salt in the food. People tend to oversalt things, that's why your face gets puffy. I also wanna see him in a tight shirt, standing straight so I can see how his current body shape right now.
