Just a short video on the KTM RoadLok security accessory. I had this off a friend very cheap so just thought I would share a video on it as I have not been around for a few weeks. Catch up again Soon! Ric

Thanks mate! Yep going great and loving it thanks. Trying to get back on track for sure. Everything I had planned has been put on hold and delayed. Still working on home to sell and don't have the free time I used to have. Definitely hope to be regular again soon mate. Also the fact I have a boat load of toys to now potentially play with.. as I work for a multi brand dealership 🥳. Plenty good stuff to come yes KTM but also a mix up of some nice other two wheeled weapons too. 😀

Great video as usual. Just bought one but direct from RoadLok as it's £150 cheaper than buying direct from KTM. Also, the KTM Lok only fits on the left hand side, whereas buying direct from RoadLok you can choose left or right hand side. KTM seem to be charging way too much IMO

My 2022 1290 SAS got stolen 2 days ago. For the 2023 I have to upgrade to that roadlock, alarm and camera in the garage for more security. Luckly the bike was insured.
@RicardoYeep Жыл бұрын
Ah mate so sorry to hear the bad news 🤦♂️. That’s terrible. To be fair I wouldn’t even bother with an alarm myself and prefer a tracking unit instead. I can be notified by text of the bike is moved, also track it’s position and helps recovery with the police if done with enough time. These days no one will get involved even if the alarm goes off for fear of being attacked with a weapon. Alarmed disc lock is cheaper than an alarm so you can still get a sound, it secured the bike also as much as the road lock and is much cheaper. Back it up with a tracker and that’s my advice. And at home keep in a garage or under a cover of you can. If outside then a massive chain to a ground anchor 🫣🤦♂️

I had one on mine but took it off - I didn’t trust that the lock would survive salt and winter grime without jamming. Seems like an answer to a non existent problem when you have a decent disk lock.
@RicardoYeep2 жыл бұрын
Hiya Bruce good to hear from a familiar face again 👍. Yeah hear what you say. However I'll be giving it a long term test. And keep it maintained. I initially thought similar to you however I can see positives that the normal disc locks don't have. 1. Less cumbersome to carry around if you have one like I have Xena XX which is top big to fit under the seat or storage box. The Roadlock only needs the lock pin to be stored away. 2. Safer for the bike. I've owned numerous disc locks and different bikes.. I have wrecked fenders and bent rotars due to my own stupid forgetfulness. Riding off without unlocking..... This Roadlock will not allow any movement of the wheel so will immediately stall the bike of you don't notice something is wrong right away. And to be fair you'll notice pretty sharpish unlike being able to do a full rotation and smash up your fender damage calipers 3. It's such an easy addition to have regarding only having to carry the pin. That it can just be an easy and effective additional security feature. Even if you still have a full on disc lock. I now use my alarmed disc lock on the rear wheel instead now 🤣

Hiya Bruce congratulations on the new beast 💪 👏 glad your loving it.. And yep agree it's only a deterrent for opportunist thieves from simply snapping the steering lock and wheeling away. Living in London which can be similar to South Africa LOL. All you need is a few guys and a van and it's lifted and gone in 60 seconds. Even the best chain costing Hundreds will take few minutes with a good battery angle grinder. We just do our best I guess 😔 which unfortunately sometimes is never enough. If the want it they will indeed get..

Looks like PITA to lock the bike on the side stand. For this money I chose an Oxford Beast, which I cannot take with me, of course.
@RicardoYeep2 жыл бұрын
Hey up mate! Nooo is very easy even on the side stand. Just pop the spring loaded pin into position and lock. Then just roll the bike forward a few centimetres and pin will then lock into the disc. Its a great idea as you will never have that problem on normal disc locks where you can actually ride off for nearly a full turn of the wheel and smash your fender up or warp a brake disc. This one won't even let the bike roll at all forcing the bike to stall. 👍

@@RicardoYeep I see, that's what the spring is for. Very clever.

Hi Rick! Thanks for your Video. Do you choose the 17.1 mm spacer or another one? Do you only use it with the original disc or do you also try with after market?
@RicardoYeep8 ай бұрын
Hello my friend! I have to be honest I cannot remember now as it was long time ago and I sold the bike since so cannot check. I only use with OEM discs yes. From memory I think it would have been around 15/17mmm. I cannot remember what was in the kit. The best way to check I think would be to choose and measure the selection of bolts in the kit. And end sure the length of thread on the OEM bolt that is driven into the caliper matches the amount of the bolt used to attach the lock. But also allow for the spacer and lock. It should be pretty easy to figure out 👍
@V2_Adventures8 ай бұрын
@@RicardoYeep Thanks for your very fast answer. The manual says 17.1 mm spacer and M10x80 bolts. I just tried with after market discs from TRW. And sadly it doesn‘t work. I just have to try with OEM discs. But I don‘t know if other spacers would be a good solution to get it worked with the TRW discs. I do not want to crash something on the brakes.

Do you have to move the bike back and forth till the pin lines up with the hole? Good idea but the normal disk lock would be better. I like the one that clips your break leaver on..
@RicardoYeep2 жыл бұрын
Hello mate ! To answer your question no you don’t need to rock the wheel. Just push the pin in place.. it’s spring loaded so even if it’s not alighted when you lock up. If anyone takes it off the stand and tried to wheel it then the pin will fire into place through the break disk hole. Job done. So no need for faffing. As for the lever locks.. I’ve lived in London for 27 years… I’ve seen all kinds of theft. You go buy a lever lock for whatever it costs you. All I’ll do is cut your break line with some £1 cutters from a bargain store in half a second 😂.. fair enough your lever is locked but who cares.. your brake will lose pressure and the wheel can rotate again 👍🫣… as a security device about as useful as a chocolate teapot 👍 Hope that helped 🙏 Cheers Ric

Hello, how do you find the perfect position of front wheel for locking? Is it complicated? Because not always is the position hole to hole. Thanks for answer.
@RicardoYeep2 жыл бұрын
Hello my friend!! It’s no problem if it’s on the centre stand you can spin the wheel obviously to get the pin to lock. BUT if you want to lock it on the side stand you still just push the pin into it. As it is spring loaded as soon as the bike is wheeled if some one try to move it then the spring will fire the pin into the hole anyway 👍 hope that helps Thanks Ric

Hey buddy, how tall are you? I like the adventure R, but i'm 5"8, am i too short?
@RicardoYeep2 жыл бұрын
Hello Damien. I am 5ft 5 (and half) inches tall. Personally speaking I found the 1290 SAR very tall for my use. Yes I can ride one ok but us definitely more of a challenge in tricky circumstances. My inside leg is 29.5 inches. And sat on the sar seat I pivot with both feet completely clear of the floor. But I am fine one footing and one on the peg. However it's far too much of a distant even still for me to be ok with on a day to day basis. This combined with the fact I would get more out of the SAS package anyway and its tech than the SAR was the reason I went dor SAS instead. For my skill levels and real life use. I can do everything on my SAS that I could do on a SAR anyway. And still have a bike that offers more in terms of rider functionality and comforts. In short.. for me yes the SAR was too tall. And off road I would find it en even bigger challenge to an already challenging situation when taking a big girl like a 1290 off the tarmac. Sometimes being closer to the the floor helps in circumstances you need to be able to paddle through stuff with feet or quickly stop yourself from losing balance at low speed. It was already tough going on the off road vids uploaded already. 100% I would have dumped the SAR a load more if I were riding that instead.. I'm just physically too dam short for those conditions with such a tall bike with my level of skills. But everyone is different. Try one out and see for yourself. You may love it . It's a beautiful bike for sure 👌

@RicardoYeep2 жыл бұрын
Hiya Jon. Yup agree it's insanely priced. Is no more effective than a normal disc lock. Just a fraction more practical to lug around. Not worth the expense though. I got it out of curiosity as well as being a bargain relatively to its RRP. But no bargain in any literal sense 😆. Is just good against opportunist. As you said still gone in 60 seconds with a few lads and a van. But then again it's not meant to prevent that. 👍

@@RicardoYeep I’d be interested to see if it affects the centripetal and centrifugal forces on the front wheel then your bars- especially after your fine tuning to remove the shake and weave at higher speeds. I’m guessing it’ll just need more weight over the nose

Well the bike already pulls to the right... maybe it will now be better with weight on left 🤣 Can't see how it will have centrifugal affect as not attached to rotating component. I'd agree it is not for most folkes. And definitely not at the original retail price. I had this at a discount but does still serve a purpose "to a certain level". It is a basic disc lock in essence. But does save lugging something around. It will not stop a determined and prepared thief. But will stop the opportunist from simply snapping your steering lock and wheeling it away.
