Totally with you Pete regarding the central display, Tesla being the worst offender. Always looks like the interior has been finished, then someone comes along and says, "quick we need to add a screen, just stick an iPad on the dash".

I had an A3 Sportback with the retractable screen 6 years ago. It was great for when you wanted to concentrate on driving quickly along B roads and country lanes. Also great for night driving.

Agree totally Pete, I can understand people liking the whole SUV thing and sitting up high, but for practicality you just cant beat a fast estate car. Whether its A4/S4 or A6/S6 or anything similar they really are great value for the driver, the family and for load lugging.

The petrol Q5's make so sense at all, as the economy just isn't there. It would be the SQ5 for me.

I enjoyed watching the Video Review. I particularly like 👍 Interior quality but I wouldn’t choose the Sportback as I prefer the standard Model

Enjoyed the review but like you I can't get my head around no exhaust. Is it a half way house to Electric cars to get us ready for that day early. The Sportback is not for me, I like my 4X4's big and full size. I am not sure the dogs would like that rear shape either.

That traffic hold up in Stow on the Wold is entirely due to the traffic lights which if you get Red as you approach can take 4 mins if not more to get through.

That is almost exactly my car (except the sport back). Same colour and wheels s line. Spent 7 and a half hours driving down to Cornwall in it on Friday through traffic and we were all very comfortable but getting 44MPG due to the 40TDI MHEV that means at times the engine cuts out at 50-60 mph while cruising which means is so economical and is more nippy than the previous iteration. But it’s a fun car when in sport and using the flappy paddles.

The RS Q3 Sportback, and the RS5 Sportback both look so good. I’m surprised both the Q4 and the Q5 look better in their normal SUV guise than the Sportback version. This might be blasphemy but if strictly based on design, I think the Genesis GV70 looks really appealing.

I’m with you Pete, give me an estate all day long. My wife, on the other hand, would love a Q3 to replace her ageing A3. 🤔

Very smart car not quite as same as most SUV,s shape wise lovely colour is some kind person was to gift me one I certainly wouldn’t say no!!! So all in all another very good video right up to high standard Peter you lucky man, Mrs Ped would love it👍👍👍🚘🚘🚘😁😁😁

This reintroduction of this generation of SQ5 diesel is already selling like hotcakes here in Australia although not sure why didn’t do a full upgrade of the cabin like the Q3.

Hi Ped Found your review very interesting. Last year I traded in my five year old SQ5 for same again😉 navarro blue, grey leather, pan roof, 21” diamond cur wheels, red callipers. Love the car, apart from the wretched iPad stuck on scree, fake exhaust. This is our work horse, towing 1800kg caravan, and twin axle car trailer. The unfashionable oil burner engine is superb in this role. In normal use not towing, find it very comfortable, and just eats the miles. My settings dynamic for engine, comfort for suspension, auto for exhaust (dynamic setting too wearing on long journey) I did consider the Macan but too expensive, and petrol only. Got a cracking deal from Yeovil Audi, so still an Audi fan after 40yrs😎

Agree about the dash stuck on screen. Mercs moved on from those and integrated them and their interiors are much better as a result. Looks like an x4.

The Audi naming system is still not as confusing as Volvo. That really is just random letters and numbers. The Q5 Sportback my favourite Coupe SUV in this class. The BMW X4 is also very good

Well, Audi used to market the Audi 50 right through to the Audi 200 so it'll seem familiar to them. Front grille is plain too massive, styling as been lost over horsepower and it could be a Vauxhall Grandland X from the rear.

Why do cars need to have badges on the back denoting their trim level and power output? It's a bit like leaving the price tag on your jeans

for a new shape, and interior, the ipad is just wrong, still an after thought, look at merc AMG. nice wrap around consoles, in effect extended virtual cockpits. nothing beats last diesel SQ5 plus, lets see if new sportback is as good. Was 358bhp and a unreal 700Nm of torque BiTurbo: 33mpg even driven hard in Dynamic.

You need to drive Macans more often then you might know what a sporty compact SUV can do. Audi lost me when they dropped the V6 petrols from the S4 and Q5

I really can't get on with the SUV style of vehicle, you need big engines just to give adequate performance, about the only positive is to give smug drivers a superior feeling sitting above other cars, ofc that doesn't really work when almost every other driver has one too. Give me small and fast any day of the week. Also I agree, stuck on ipad displays are ridiculous!!!

I’m a fan of the exterior looks but not much has changed interior wise. The upcoming Q4 -Etron will probably be a more attractive option.

I will admit to lacking knowledge but thought exhaust pipes somewhere (snorkel, side, back) were necessary to keep engine gasses and dangerous amounts of carbon monoxide from leaking into your cabin, which long term will kill you. Obviously missing the lesson on eliminating exhaust pipes!

You are right that-screen is intuitive but it sill a nice car 🚗

A friend turned up in his new Audi 40 estate, I was impressed until it turned out to be a 2.0 diesel. come on Audi cut out the kidding. Yes buttons are nice, are manufactures listening?

Good evening pal, the only thing I notice with a lot of estates and SUV’s lately is the almost unfinished shape once the tailgates are lifted. I first noticed this on the Insignia estate. I think some vehicles look plain ugly with the boot lid up.

Same price as my M340i xDrive. Which for me questions who would want one of these. But that’s choice. Subjectivity in the extreme.

The Audi Q5...a good car...it does what you want and is one to buy. However...I am not Trevor and Sheila with a miniature poodle called Jock who wears a plaid raincoat at all times. I don’t belong to a Golf Club and Mrs HQB does not wear St. Michael twinsets. It has a tired image to go with its dated lines now over blinged by Klaus in the weeks before he retired. It is all you need...but why would anybody WANT one...an update on a car about to be pulled very soon. What does impress me...your coverage....very fair, reasoned and appropriate...but no...it is not for us!!!🙂🙂🙂😃😃

Pete, Just to correct you re the dash and the virtual cockpit, its not google maps maps anymore. The Google earth view was turned off at the end of 2020, and those cars that had it it was lost. It is now Bluesky Maxar maps which can be downloaded via your dealer to certain cars apparently, though mine took 5 months as the dealers don't know there ar*e from there satnavs :)

I’m an Audi guy but Audi is way behind with the Q5. It’s such an old platform and not as exciting package as the competitors. Q8 is the real sports suv in my opinion.

Not knowing anything about Audi, I'll choose my next words carefully... When you open the boot, I'm assuming the light clusters end up facing the sky.. I'd be concerned that if I had to open the boot in the dark and for example, needed my hazard lights to warn other road users, or are they in the lower part of the rear? Why haven't Audi integrated some small rear lights into the pillars either side of the boot... Just an observation, which I hope made sense..??!!??

Nice scenery! Don't like the car that much. Need space? Buy an estate or a family car. If not, buy a coupé. Still don't understand this evolution to sporty coupé like suv's. Cheers

It's a nice looking car, not a big fan of the shape. Think also the "I-pad" should be part of the dash, not like mounted on it. Overal a good looking car but not for me (if I had the money for it 🤣🤣)

The slanting roof line should only belong to a proper two door coupe doesn't seem to look right on a four door car and the exterior and interior design looks dated.

Wow, Back to one of your more traditional car reviews, :) What an horrendous screen, what are they thinking? This will be controversial. I think Audi's are really dull on the inside. Apart from the top end cars they do nothing for me. But hey, each to his own and maybe I just haven't been in enough. Anyway takes nothing away from your review. Great as always.

Sorry i know looks are subjective but to me it looks horrid the regular q5 is so much nicer!

It might be better IRL, but on video that dashboard interior looks so low rent. £55k car!? Dull, cheap looking vents and buttons, and as you said no where to put a phone which is just unacceptable. Others have said what needs to be said about that screen. Most BMWs and Mercedes are a cut above this effort (in different ways), and even Jaguar's latest interiors are so much more imaginative and engaging.

Horses for courses. Too many variants of cars now. Not for me but as you said, they’ll sell lots of them.
