A few things: We own one of these. a 2018 Prestige. We moved up from an Audi Q5 so we could haul a camper and have more space for luggage. 1. The center console being small is due to the layout of the engine and transmission. This vehicle and the Atlas are base on the same vehicle underneath, but the Atlas is predominantly front-wheel-drive and if equipped with all-wheel-drive, can send some power to the back. With the Audi, its All-Wheel-Drive all the time sending as much or as little power needed to each of the four wheels to keep the car stable and safe in slick weather. That engine and transmission take up more space under the center console resulting in less space for things. 2. The third row of most SUVs is never meant for adults unless it's in an absolute desperate pinch. If you need to carry 7 adults, you need a minivan or a suburban. 3. You can get window shades for the rear that are built into the door and are a must in my opinion. 4. A pre-facelift 2017-2019 Q7 will give you all the luxury and style, with fewer screens and more traditional buttons(which I love). Still has the digital dash, but the rest of the front dash has knobs and buttons for climate and a screen that pops up for infotainment controlled by a very conveniently placed rotary knob just ahead of the shifter. 5. When looking at this car, many who are not familiar with Audi vehicles will wonder why the added expense for a vehicle that does largely the same work of a much cheaper Japanese, Korean, or American SUV. The reason in my mind is that this is a german vehicle built for german roads. That includes the Autobahn, a "no-speed-limit" highway system that requires a vehicle that can maintain very high speeds, brake from very high speeds, and survive a collision at very high speeds. It's overbuilt for American roads, which means it's very safe and extremely capable. The atlas may feel similar, but it is built specifically for the American market(Not sold or built in Europe). 6. The non-auto folding third row is a safety issue. If it was one-touch, you could pinch a small child, pet, or fragile item that may still be in the third row. The added risk was the reason one-touch was not offered. 7. The 3.0L V6 engine is supercharged (makes significantly more power thanks to this). Power of a large engine with the MPGs of a small engine. Worth considering and we personally see real world city mileage of between 18 and 21 depending on how lead-footed myself or my wife are. 8. Back to the towing capacity. It wasn't mentioned, but that is another HUGE reason to go for this car over an Atlas, Telluride, Pilot, or other large SUV excluding American suvs. This can tow a maximum of 7,700 pounds (medium size travel trailer) with ease. The other suvs that are predominantly front wheel drive suffer from very low towing capacities of around 2-3,000 pounds (a small pop-up camper or small boat. Something to think about if you don't have or want to own a truck in addition. There are positives and negatives to the Q7. We love ours for all the reasons stated above. If those are not important to you, then other SUVs are available with just as much tech and safety for a lower admission price.

My dealer told me the rear side airbag is not recommended for small children (mine are 5 yrs and 2 yrs old) - it can cause harm because the airbag exerts so much force. That is why it is optional and when I ordered my 2021 Q7 I left that off the options list. Totally agree the center console / small space storage is seriously lacking. That is the only frustrating part of this vehicle. The drive is phenomenal for a car this size.

I’ve had times when I had to put one back seat down and leave one up. I’m glad they have it separated! The third row is a deal breaker for me, especially with no vents! The access to the third row is so cumbersome. The console is ridiculously small.

Google the car colors and you’ll get a better idea of what they look like. I think the matrix headlights are adaptive. Once you have them you’ll notice the safety difference at night.

Another question, would you say a sunroof is a yay of a nay with kids??

You chose the 45, it has the whimpy four cylinder for such a big suv. That seven seater needs to be Q7-55 which is the V6 turbo, is an engineering marvel. If you loved the one you drove, the 55 is butterly smooth.

The way the second row lifts up! Would it be easy for a child to get out of? No. Would it make cleaning our your car easy? Absolutely.

There is a larger difference in the 3 sets of sticker prices. The 45 both have a 4 cylinder engine. The 55 is a 6 cylinder vehicle.

Wish I had seen this review about the storage before jumping the gun on buying this car. Huge car made for a family but no storage, makes no sense. Also their default NAV system is pretty useless, doesn't have half the point of interests in our area. Good thing there is Carplay. I have to say it drives beautifully though, so it sort of makes up for it.

Would have chosen the 55 over the 45 any day The 45 only has 245 HP .. too sluggish for a body that size. The 55 has 335 HP. More like it
