This week I got behind the wheel of a rear-wheel drive BMW M340i (G20), and wow, what a car! It's no surprise to those who know me well, that I'm quite a bit of a BMW enthusiast... but I'm telling you, BMW built a fantastically BALANCED sports sedan. Powered by a beefy B58 motor, the M340i is both fast, a dynamic driving experience, and subdued in its styling. This car has USEABLE POWER! It has no problem getting off the line and putting its power down, something that previous gen (F80) M3's had a harder time with.
What really helps the M340i in standing out however is that it is the only RWD option when compared to its two closest adversaries: the Audi S4 and Mercedes-Benz AMG C43... now just as I don't think the M340i is a true "M" car, I also don't believe that the C43 is a real "AMG" car. These aforementioned cars are however, still very fun and sporty driving propositions, particularly in an increasingly expensive sporty compact sedan segment.
The fact that the M340i can come in RWD means that BMW is paying attention to their customers and offering them OPTIONS... I'm all about options because we the consumer have often differing needs/desires than one another, and this fundamental option allows us to explore what driving experience we want from this "M" car... check the video out to see more, and to SEE MY FACE when launching this car haha
