A cops car should be like this, their car is their office, they are in their cars most of the time, so it’s great they are adding these features. Small features go a long way when your in your vehicle 8-10 hours a day.

Oh yeah. My city’s local police used to use SRT Chargers, but they were retired early. I have a friend who is a mechanic for city vehicles, and he said they gave them so many problems.

@CJ Lane Where you been? Here in New Orleans of Louisiana, the NOPD since for the past few years has been getting a bunch of Tahoes on their fleet. To where it's going to surpass the Explorer as a, Flagship Fleet Vehicle. There arent any Chargers on their fleet , while some Crown Victorias from En Mass , remains.

Look at GM: Trying to sell the button shift to Police, all so they don't lose a couple minutes per Police Tahoe on the assembly line. For the price of these things, they should stay with what has worked for seventy years. They could easily make electronic Column Shifters. It would take 10ths of a second for an Officer to put a Column Shifter in park, by FEEL and MUSCLE MEMORY. Then, if they jumped out and left it in drive, they could have it do the same thing.

It's about time they put some high tech gadgets in the Tahoes. They bought some Explorers at my place and they have some nice stuff, but this is really next level. If you've never spent time in the front seat of police car, they are tight and uncomfortable and there is never room for anything. Just having a slot for a gas card makes me smile, let alone all the other features.

An excellent police vehicle, the Tahoe PPV (2 and 4 wheel drive option) and the SSV ( non street pursuit; 4 wheel drive only). A combination of room ( from the Caprice ) , bad weather capabilities ( from the Impala 9C1), the toughness ( from the Suburban/Silverado) and the speed ( from Corvette/Camaro).

GM is starting to further away from the LQ9/6.0. They use the 6.2 as the bigger option in the lighter duty pickups and suvs and 6.6 gas v8 for the heavy duty pickups. The 6.2 would’ve been a better option though I agree

the 6.0 is being phased out completely, the vans even use the 6.6 now. The 5.3 makes more power now than the 6.0 did at launch and its significantly more fuel efficient, which matters A LOT more to police

@@james2042 yes, fuel economy matters more, highway patrol uses v8 chargers for acceleration anyways. Funny thing is that may departments don't even allow vehicular chases anymore so speed is a non-issue

@@Carterthielftw_ they use the 5.7 hemi because the 3.6 just doesn't have enough torque for the extra weight from their gear and upfits. They still need to get up to speed on a highway when someone goes by too fast, even if its only to grab their plates then back off.

With the 2021 Tahoe having a heavier weight than the outgoing 2020 and not getting any upgrades to the 5.3, we shall see if the 2021 is as capable of high speed pursuits. The lane assist and automatic braking are not suitable for police interceptors. They can cause more issues whenever the officer is in a hurry while responding or during a pursuit.

I was expecting GM to at least keep it for the police. That sucks how now it's completely gone. GM made that mistake by using a floor shifter for the Caprice Police Interceptor and in later years the floor shifter was swapped for a column shifter. Hopefully the same happens here with the Tahoes/Suburbans.

They really do need to figure out an assisted column shift. The issue with physical shift is that it doesn’t enable features like the rolling autopark when the door is opened. If they have a column shifter that’s motorized, it may be possible to have a computer actually move the shifter without a person there. The other option is a fully digital shift system like in this video, but with a “fake” column shifter that’s just more like a simulation of the classic column shifter, but with electronic buttons seated deep inside.

The auto stop shift to park feature is really for drivers who can’t remember to shift into park when they get out. Sounds great, but it will lull people, including eventually police, into complacency. Nice truck, most comfortable police vehicle, but the push-pull button shifter looks terribly slow and awkward. Column shift would be better.

Column shifters are clunky, outdated, are able to be positioned *between* gears, and can easily overshoot the intended gear (such as L1 instead of D). Not to mention they occupy valuable space in front of the instrument panel. People are living in the fuckin' 90s.

Not likely. Here in new Orleans by the way, the NOPD with explorers dont have the Ecoboosts ones. They got the regular V6 ones while having a bunch of Tahoes on their fleet.

I have a video on my channel where I spanked a 5.3 with my F165 aka F150 with the 2.7 evoboost.

@@stuchbrosmnore8627 The 2.7 is quicker than any 5.3 because the 5.3 does not have low end torque.

Why, why, why don’t they offer the full range of motors?? The 6.2 and mid-max I think would both get traction..

The 6.2L and baby duramax can't fit due to the unique bumper design which wouldn't allow for proper cooling. It'd cost too much for GM to remake it when it'd only account for a small portion of sales.

@@MrTehPenguin perhaps. I know my county only buys Tahoe’s due to the large rural areas. I’d be willing to bet they’d do diesels for the mileage if they decided to figure it out. Oh the baby-max is the 2.8 in the Colorado.
