Customer states service diesel exhaust fluid system message on drivers information center.
U010E code loss of communication with reductant sensor module….turned out to be a loss of communication with the reductant control module requiring wiring harness testing and repair.

Haven’t taken my truck to the dealership but it was marking that it needed def when it’s completely full

You may need to drive it a short distance before the tank level will update. If it still reads lower than actual it will need diagnosis. I’ve replaced a few tank level sensors for failures so it’s a possibility. Thank you.

I'm having the same exact issue with my 2017 L5P and the dealer is trying to throw a new reductant module in for $1450 but doesn't know if that's going to fix the issue. They said they are going to try the DEF tank afterwards if that doesn't work. Why would the DEF tank be the issue? I'm not confident they know what they are doing. Quick question - If I do fix the issue, will the emissions warning clear on its own, or do I need specific GM scan tools?

It sounds like they are just guessing. We kind of need to know exactly what code they are trying to repair, but it doesn’t sound like they have much confidence in their diagnosis. Whether the fault can be cleared or not depends on the level of severity the warning level has reached… I believe there are 11 or 12 of them. The higher levels must be reset with a scan to self test. The vehicle will eventually reset itself and clear the fault message. If the problem has been repaired… This can be almost impossible to do if it has already reached the speed limiter portion of lock out. Thanks.

@@DadsGarageDiagnosticSpecialist It has not reached full lockout. I have about 80 miles left to the 65 max mph restriction. After looking at your diagnosis, I am going to look into the harness also. It's worth a shot. The dealer literally wants me to try and $1450 repair for the module and see if that works. What is that? I'm not stupid when it comes to building cars and engines in general. I've raced and built my engines and trans for decades, so I'm sure I can fix whatever the issue is. My only issue is that I have a snap-on scanner, but it doesn't show the specific codes for the emissions faults. That is why I bit the bullet and took it back to GM. You wouldn't happen to be around the MD area would you? 😂 Id love to get this truck to someone like yourself who is a true professional at his craft. People like you are few far and between these days. Thanks for the videos man! They are very helpful.

@@4G63addict we would need to know what code the vehicle has. Your Snap On should be able to read it, but if the codes have been erased, you won’t find any codes. The message on the dash will be present whether there are codes or not. I’m on the opposite side of the country unfortunately. Thank you very much. I’m just an internet random, I do what I can. Judging by the fact that they want to replace the exhaust fluid tank, and or the reductant control module, there was most likely a code, having to do with the reductant quality sensor, which is built into the tank… One of the few reasons you would ever have to replace one of the tanks. For what it’s worth I have diagnosed and replaced a few tanks due to a faulty reductant quality sensor. Module failures are rare compared to wiring harness faults or sensor failures.

What size is that thermal removal tool, Or do you have a part number?

5:45 the table shows which terminated repair lead and which terminal removal tool you will need depending on which terminals you are trying to replace. Looks like J-38125-36 for the terminal replaced in this video. Thanks for commenting.
